21 Seen Dead After Fighting in SW Baghdad, Witness Says

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -

Twenty one dead bodies of what appeared to be Iraqi soldiers and civilians were seen in the Doura district of southwest Baghdad on Thursday after reported fighting with U.S. troops, a Reuters cameraman said.
Ahmed Bahaddou said he saw U.S. troops collecting the bodies along a highway leading from Doura, home to an oil refinery, to Baghdad international airport.

Other witnesses at the scene said they saw fierce fighting between Iraqi fighters and the U.S. forces. They said the U.S. troops had already removed many more dead bodies lying along the roadside. Reuters reporter Khaled Yacoub Oweis said there was still some sporadic fighting going on in the area.
