SAIRI ready to guarantee security in southern Iraqi regions
Basra, May 5, IRNA -- The Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution
in Iraq (SAIRI) is ready to safeguard security and tranquility across
southern Iraqi cities, an official of the assembly told IRNA on
Sunday.
"The SAIRI has made the proposal on safeguarding the southern
regions when British forces had recently visited the assembly's office
in Basra," head of the SAIRI's south branch, Salah Mousavi, said.
He added that there has been no response from the British side,
though citizens in the southern areas, Basra and al-Amara in
particular, are suffering from the increased insecurity and chaos.
"The Supreme Assembly's forces are capable to establish and
guarantee security in the southern cities within few days in
cooperation with people," he stressed.
The official further pointed to the Baath party as among factors
responsible for plundering state properties.
Meanwhile, a British military spokesman told IRNA that the Iraqi
nation no longer trust political groups, and that the former Saddam
regime has inflicted heavy material and spiritual blow to the nation.
"This is while some groups possessing weapons threaten people and
prevent them from expressing their views," the spokesman said, adding
that but experiences have showed that at last people will hand over
the power to those who they mostly believe in.
