3 U.S. Military Police Killed, Injured In Iraq, New Car Bomb

BAGHDAD, September 2 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) -- Violence and explosions continued Tuesday, September 2, unabated in war-ravaged Iraq as two U.S. military police officers were killed and one wounded in a bomb attack in the Iraqi capital, and a fourth car bomb hit Baghdad police station injuring at least ten people.
"The two officers were killed and one wounded when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device on a main supply route south of Baghdad," said a U.S. military spokeswoman Tuesday, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The injured officer was evacuated for treatment after the incident which happened Monday afternoon, she said, without giving further details.
The latest deaths take to 67 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in “guerrilla” attacks in Iraq since President George W. Bush declared major operations over on May 1.
A further 78 have died in accidents or other circumstances unrelated to combat.
U.S.-led occupation forces in Iraq put the blame of the daily attacks they face on Saddam Hussein loyalists and other anti-American “extremists”.
In yet another ambush, two U.S. soldiers were wounded early Tuesday when their vehicle hit an explosive device in the flashpoint town of Fallujah, 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of Baghdad, witnesses said.
"An explosive device went off under a jeep as a U.S. military convoy comprising around 15 trucks and jeeps was crossing the Fallujah bridge, heading for the al-Habbaniya base, causing it to overturn," Qusay Adnan told AFP.
Two soldiers were wounded in the vehicle that overturned, he said, adding that the incident occurred at 8:30 am (0430 GMT).
Fourth Car Bomb

In the fourth such attack, a car bomb exploded at a police station in the western Baghdad district of Rasafa Tuesday causing an unknown number of casualties, a police officer in the station told AFP.
"A car bomb went off at about 11:30 am (0730 GMT). Most of the injured are policemen," said Lieutenant Khaled, but he refused to give any more details.
The powerful explosion took place in a parking lot adjacent to the office of the chief of Baghdad Police Force. The office, however, was not damaged, according to al-Jazeera Satellite Channel.
Some 10 cars were completely burnt down and 7 to 10 persons -- mostly policemen or others working with them as civilians are not allowed inside the building -- were injured, one of them in critical condition, according to al-Jazeera.
“The car blast occurred in the courtyard of Baghdad Police Academy wherein some 250 Iraqi police officers were to graduate and try to control the chaos in Baghdad streets and elsewhere.”
The U.S. forces and Iraqi police sealed the blast zone, prevented reporters from approaching and immediately embarked on investigations to reveal the details of the attack, according to al-Jazeera.
