Diana thought someone was plotting to kill her, says butler

Princess Diana's former butler Paul Burrell is back in the news, with an explosive revelation in his new book "A Royal Duty", out next week and being previewed in the press. It features a letter allegedly written and sent to Burrell from his employer 10 months before she died, in October 1996. It speculates that someone is planning to kill her in a supposed car accident, and even names her chief suspect - but that name remains a secret.

At the time, this sort of comment was passed off by many as the ravings of someone suffering from paranoia but the can of worms that is Diana's death has been well and truly opened again. Burrell was last in the news when an 11th-hour intervention by Britain's Queen Elizabeth stopped the trial at which he was accused of stealing some of Diana's personal effects
