La France dément des informations sur l'envoi de soldats en Irak

PARIS (Reuters) - La France a démenti catégoriquement samedi des informations publiées par l'hebdomadaire allemand Der Spiegel, selon lequel elle envisagerait d'envoyer quelque 3.000 soldats en Irak.

"Nous le démentons complètement", a déclaré à Reuters un porte-parole du ministère français des Affaires étrangères.

"Il n'y a ni étude ni planification sur une affaire comme celle-là", a pour sa part déclaré à Reuters le colonel Christian Baptiste, chargé de communication auprès de l'état-major des armées. "Il n'y a eu aucune directive pour étudier ou planifier ce genre de déploiement."

L'envoi de troupes françaises en Irak constituerait un revirement spectaculaire de la France, qui a été le fer de lance des pays opposés à l'opération militaire américano-britannique en Irak.
