The leader of an illegal Basque separatist party with links to terrorist group ETA has said that he believes the Madrid bomb explosions of this morning were the work of elements of "Arab resistance".

Arnold Otegi said that ETA always rang in warnings before attacks, with no such calls apparently being received prior to the railway attacks earlier today.

Otegi said "The modus operandi, the high number of victims and the way it was carried out make me think, and I have a hypothesis in mind, that yes it may have been an operative cell from the Arab resistance."
