Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The Free Arab Voice.

Saturday, 4 December 2004.

Al-Fallujah.

Battles rage Saturday in various parts of al-Fallujah.

Fierce fighting broke out in several parts of al-Fallujah Saturday, in particular in the south of the city.

Violent battles raged to the south of the neighborhoods of ash-Shuhada’ and al-Jubayl in the south of al-Fallujah from 11am until 12 noon local time. US aircraft took part in the bombardment of those parts of the city in which the Resistance was located.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that US forces advanced in the east of the city, but then were thrown back to east of the city where their positions were in the first place.

Fierce fighting also erupted at dawn Saturday after an Iraqi Resistance breakthrough into the ash-Shurtah neighborhood. Battles broke out with US forces in the al-Hadrah area and in the al-Jaghifi neighborhood and lasted about one and a half hours. Afterwards, the Resistance drove towards the al-Muhandisin and al-Jumhuriyah neighborhoods.

There was heavy fighting in the al-Jawlan neighborhood as well in the northwest of al-Fallujah, where the Resistance beat US forces back to their former positions half a kilometer away from al-Jawlan.

Fighting also broke out to the south of the ash-Shuhada’, al-Jubayl and al-Jawlan neighborhoods, Friday evening, but US forces failed to make any headway into those areas. In their fighting on Friday, US forces reportedly again used their apple-smelling poison gas.

As in April: defeated US asks al-Fallujah police, civil defense to resume supervising the security of the city as they retreat.

Correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam report that US forces, acting through intermediaries, have asked the civil defense forces and the al-Fallujah police to prepare in the near future to return to the city where they are to undertake to provide “security and protection” for the city as well as other tasks that might be entrusted to them. The members of these groups - the al-Fallujah civil defense and police - are all residents of the city who were chosen for those jobs on the basis of the stipulations laid down by the city’s residents when negotiating the withdrawal of US forces at the end of the first American siege of the city in April 2004.

Thus, as was the case with the first siege, the US forces are now seeking a face-saving way to withdraw from the city having been unable to overrun it as they hoped, and indeed having only been able to penetrate some 40 percent of the city.

Sources tell Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans through intermediaries have asked for talks with important local people in those two organizations. The sources say it is likely that the Americans will shortly be announcing that they had succeeded in clearing the city of what they call “insurgents” and had handed control of the city over to the police and civil defense forces who would then enter the city and take up their security roles.

This is how the Americans extricated themselves from the first siege of the city in April, when they covered their defeat on the battlefield by allowing the local people to supply the members for the local police and civil defense forces, rather than accept the puppet troops or puppet police recruited by the Americans to assert control over the city. By returning to the arrangement that was in force before the latest US offensive, the Americans are in effect admitting their defeat, while attempting to provide a public relations cover for it.

Resistance downs US Chinook helicopter loaded with American troops.

At 1:30pm Saturday, Iraqi Resistance fighters in ‘Amiriyat as-Saqlawiyah fired a Strela rocket at a big US Chinook helicopter that was loaded with American troops and was being escorted by a smaller Black Hawk helicopter gunship. The Strela hit the Chinook and brought it crashing down into the area of Project 102 Mashru‘ 102 east of ‘Amiriyat as-Saqlawiyah. The fighters in the ‘Amiriyah area have succeeded in bringing down a large number of US helicopters, and as a result their region has been dubbed the “helicopter graveyard.”

Resistance bombards US base as Americans tighten siege of as-Saqlawiyah.

US forces intensified their siege of the as-Saqlawiyah area on Friday in an attempt “to teach the people there a lesson” for providing support in men and materiel to the Resistance in al-Fallujah. The as-Saqlawiyah Resistance also bombarded the US troop concentrations outside al-Fallujah making their life that much more miserable.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in as-Saqlawiyah reported that the US forces on Friday encircled the big mosque in as-Saqlawiyah, when about a thousand worshippers were inside. On emerging they were forced to go through searches to identify traces of having fired weapons on their skin, in an effort to single out Resistance fighters. Many people remained inside the mosque for four hours as a result of the US siege.

American forces also intensified their blockade around the al-Bu Shajan area west of as-Saqlawiyah by the wooden bridge as a part of their effort to punish the residents of the area for supporting the Resistance.

The correspondent reported that the as-Saqlawiyah Resistance fighters responded to these American outrages. The Resistance mounted a barrage on the US-occupied estate known as the ad-Dahhami Palace with rockets, razing the structure to the ground and leaving not one wall standing.

After the bombardment began, US forces left their camp, then after a time patrolling outside went back.

In other news the Resistance fighters of as-Saqlawiyah bombarded the headquarters of US forces known as “al-Haykal” the skeleton with six Grad rockets, razing it to the ground as well.

The so-called ad-Dahhami Palace was a mansion built by a wealthy Iraqi by that name who became a lackey of the US invaders when they launched their invasion of Iraq. He was later assassinated by the Resistance.

Puppet “national guard” thieves open market to sell their loot from al-Fallujah in Baghdad.

After having robbed the citizens of al-Fallujah while aiding the American attack on that city, puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” have now set up a furniture and household item market where they can sell off their loot. Articles of furniture, cooking utensils, including even such small items as spoons are now on sale.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the al-Fallujah area reported that the “national guard” opened the market in the an-Nasr wa-as-Salam (al-Haswah) area between Baghdad and al-Fallujah, opposite the Baghdad district of al-Karakh. Local residents and citizens witnessed dozens of Nissan pickup trucks belonging to the “national guard” bringing in the stolen items for sale in the new market.

One freezer in al-Fallujah holds 250-300 bodies of people killed in US assault on the city.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported on Saturday evening that the al-Batuta (potato) freezer in the city of al-Fallujah now holds between 250 and 300 bodies of people killed in the US assault on the city. There is another freezer, al-Hajj Sami’s freezer, that is also reported to be holding a pile of bodies, but the correspondent was unable to ascertain precise figures on its contents.

US forces and the puppet “national guard” are bringing in followers of pro-American Shi‘i cleric ‘Ali as-Sistani from the Baghdad neighborhood known as an-Nasr wa-as-Salam to take away the dead from the streets of al-Fallujah.

Anglo-American invaders complete their retreat from ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah.

British forces enlisted the help of US troops to complete their withdrawal from the Project 102 Mashru‘ 102 area east of ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah on Saturday. The British and Americans took down their military camps and drove away their equipment from the area, totally evacuating the place where they carried out a major attack on Resistance fighters who had been supporting the Resistance inside al-Fallujah. Now that the Anglo-Americans have left ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah, the area is now entirely in Resistance hands again.
