Tuesday, 1 February 2005.

Al-Qa’im.

Car bomb kills 15 Marines in al-Qa’im.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded in the city of al-Qa’im on the border with Syria Tuesday morning as a US Marine column was passing. The Marines, who entered al-Qa’im on 11 January, suffered nine dead and two military vehicles destroyed. In addition one Egyptian collaborator translator also was killed in the blast.

First Lieutenant Nabil Muhammad of the puppet external road protection force told Mafkarat al-Islam that at 9:05am Tuesday, the US column made up of seven various military vehicles, including four Humvees and three medium-sized tanks, set off on its routine morning patrol. When the patrol entered the al-Wahdah neighborhood street that leads to al-Karabilah village, 11km west of the city, a white pickup raced towards them, driven by a driver whose face was covered in a red head scarf.

The Americans opened a hail of gunfire, wounding the driver of the car but he kept coming anyway, slamming into the side of the column and setting off a huge explosion that swept up and totally destroyed two Humvees. One tank was also disabled, and the roof of a house 500 meters away caved in, killing an elderly woman and her 32-year old daughter.

The Iraqi puppet soldier said that nine US troops and an Egyptian translator who had US citizenship were killed. The translator was well known in the area because he had a distinctive Egyptian accent when broadcasting American declarations by loudspeaker as he often did. Six other US troops were seriously wounded, one having broken his leg when the explosion blew him off a tank.

US forces encircled the area, not allowing anyone to approach, not even the local municipal administrator who showed up to find out what had happened. The Americans brutally arrested 14 youths, two hours after the blast.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance pounds US positions in and around al-Fallujah.

Iraqi Resistnace rocket attacks have compelled US troops to evacuate two checkpoints and command posts north of al-Fallujah. The Resistance continues to mount such attacks on US positions.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported that the Resistance had pounded the joint US-puppet guard command post in the al-Bu ‘Irrin Gardens northwest of al-Fallujah on Monday. When Tuesday dawned, the Resistance discovered that the Americans had disappeared from the post.

On Tuesday afternoon, Resistance forces fired two 120mm mortar rounds at the US al-Habbaniyah base and two more at a US command point north of as-Saqlawiyah.

The Resistance also fired two Grad rockets into the US base in the agricultural area northeast of al-Fallujah.

Hit.

US opens new vehicle graveyard near Hit ミ the ninth in Iraq.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Hit reported that the US military has completed preparations for a third “graveyard” for wrecked military equipment in the area of al-Baghdadi, near the US base dubbed ‘Ayn al-Asad west of Baghdad.

The correspondent wrote that the Americans have selected a very large open space for that purpose, grading more than 130dunums that had been planted with date palms and wheat and barley near their camp. For more than a week, the correspondent reported Tuesday afternoon, the Americans have been feverishly working to bring in to the “graveyard” dozens of pieces of equipment, such as tanks, armored vehicles, Humvees, and aircraft wrecks from various parts of al-Anbar Province. The correspondent wrote that it is believed that the Americans also buried some non-American troops in the vehicle grave yard as well, Africans and Nepalese among them as well as personnel from some east Asian countries.

A photo that accompanied the Mafkarat al-Islam story showed a wrecked armored vehicle loaded upon a transport that was also destroyed near the graveyard. That photo, which was taken by the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, can be viewed at:

The new vehicle graveyard is the third such facility that the Americans have set up in al-Anbar Province since they invaded the country in spring 2003. It is the ninth vehicle graveyard set up by the Americans in Iraq. In the Baghdad area alone are several such facilities, including the vehicle graveyard in at-Taji and in Abu Ghurayb. In Mosul there is the al-Ghazlani vehicle graveyard, and in Samarra’ there is a vehicle graveyard set up in what formerly was the Iraqi Army’s Artillery and Combat School. In Diyala there is the Abu Sayda vehicle graveyard. Similar facilities are to be found in an-Najaf and another in al-Basrah. All these facilities are surrounded by at least four fences and no one is allowed to approach closer than five kilometers. In February 2004, the US army announced that it cost them more to transport wrecked and disabled vehicles than to bring them to Iraq when they are in sound condition. They therefore resolved to set up vehicle graveyards in Iraq.

Baghdad.

Resistance group issues video of destruction of US Humvee in ad-Durah.

The Brigades of the 1920 Revolution Resistance organization announced that it had destroyed a US Humvee in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. The Brigades issued a video, broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite TV showing Resistance fighters belonging to the brigades attacking the vehicle with rockets.

Tribal Shaykh: No more than 35 percent of registered voters, cast ballots in sham election.

Shaykh Ra‘d Hamdani, the General Secretary of the Council of Chiefs of Tribes of Iraq announced that the percentage of voters who cast ballots in the sham elections held by the Americans on 30 January did not exceed 35 percent. He said that the reports that put the percentage of voters higher than that are false.

Hamdani in a statement to the press said Tuesday reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA that the council to be formed on the basis of the “election” had no legitimacy and would not have any authority to prepare a new Iraqi constitution or to choose an Iraqi government.

The puppet regime’s so-called Supreme Electoral Commission claimed that 60 percent of Iraq’s registered voters had cast their ballots in the election farce.

Ba‘qubah.

Resistance bomb kills two US troops in Ba‘qubah.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded in Ba‘qubah as a US column was passing at about 4pm Tuesday, killing two US troops and seriously wounding two more, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

Resistance bomb targets US column in al-Khalis.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Khalis, east of Ba‘qubah reported eyewitnesses as saying that a powerful roadside bomb exploded on a road leading to the old city cemetery as a US column made up of three Humvees was passing, setting on almost totally ablaze and killing two US troops and wounding two more.

As-Samawah.

Iraqi Resistance fires mortars into Japanese base.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired three mortar rounds at the base occupied by Japanese aggressor troops in the southern Iraqi city of as-Samawah at 3pm Tuesday. Thick smoke rose into the sky after the attack and the Japanese set off sirens.

The Japanese sent their troops out of the camp wearing gas masks. The Japanese remained outside their base for two hours, fearful of another attack.

Umm Qasr.

Details on the prison uprising in American Camp Bucca.

Sources in the Committee on Prisoners’ Affairs disclosed details about the prison uprising in the American Bucca prison camp in Umm Qasr on Monday in which four Iraqi prisoners were martyred at the hands of US troops.

One worker for the committee, Karimah Muhammad, told Mafkarat al-Islam that a number of prisoners who had been captured in the recent battle in al-Fallujah were making sharp objects, such as knives, out of pieces of led and light iron plate, and from razor blades that are distributed to them as well as spoons.

Muhammad said that armed with those home-made weapons, the prisoners attacked three American guards as they were distributing food to the prisoners. One of the guards was killed and the other two were wounded. One lost an eye and the other was stabbed deeply in his abdomen. Then the rest of the prisoners laid into the guards with their fists and the homemade weapons. That prompted the American forces to open fire on the prisoners, killing four of them, according to Karimah Muhammad.

For his part, the father of one of the martyred prisoners who was standing in front of the prison gate to receive the body of his son told Mafkarat al-Islam that, “I didn’t grieve for my son because he was imprisoned more than a month ago. I was grieved and crushed by the fact that he didn’t die a martyr like his comrades, but languished in the prison of the occupation. But now I am happy at the outcome of what happened to my son in this world. Praise be to God! I told my oldest son to kill sheep and distribute the meat to the poor to give thanks to God for the martyrdom of my son, who took vengeance on the Americans before he died. I am now very proud of him. I ask God to give his mother patient perseverance and to bring us better than he was.”
