By: Muhammad Abu Nasr on: 27.01.2005 [04:30 ]

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Wednesday, 26 January 2005.

Ar-Rutbah - al-Anbar Province.

Iraqi Resistance shoots down US helicopter, killing 31 Marines near ar-Rutbah.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that Iraqi Resistance forces fired a SAM7 rocket, bringing down a US helicopter over the city of ar-Rutbah, 460km west of Baghdad at 7am Wednesday. The helicopter had been on its way to the village of Makr adh-Dhib, which lies near the city. The correspondent explained that American forces habitually carry out helicopter-borne landings in that area to raid and search houses and arrest people. It is nearly impossible for them to go by land to the village because the Resistance controls the countryside, so they must resort to helicopter-born assaults.

Shepherds and motorists who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that they saw the Americans gathering the remains of 31 American bodies from the desert west of ar-Rutbah. The US forces also evacuated a large number of wounded troops. Other American vehicles, meanwhile, loaded up and hauled away the wreckage of the helicopter that had been scattered over an approximately two-kilometer area.

Local witnesses told Markarat al-Islam that they hoped the Arab and Islamic news media would come and take pictures of the extent of the losses, which are what the local Resistance inflicts on the Americans every day. They said that the Americans were forced to announce the downing of this helicopter ミ something they seldom do ミ because numerous delegations of people from Baghdad and other provinces were scheduled to arrive in ar-Rutbah Wednesday and some of them were bound to have seen the crash or heard about it.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that a local amateur photographer managed to take a video of the wreckage of the helicopter and hid it in his shoe when passing through one of the checkpoints thrown up by the Americans around the crash zone. The amateur cameraman pledged to gave the film to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent so still pictures from it can be shown on the website as soon as the cassette arrives in the editorial office. The photographer told the correspondent, “If I knew that a satellite TVstation would broadcast it, I would have given it to them, but unfortunately there’s nobody else here that I can give the cassette to.”

The US military admitted that an American Marine helicopter had crashed in western Iraq early Wednesday morning. A statement by the US military said that the aircraft went down in the ar-Rutbah area in al-Anbar Province. It said that search and rescue operations were underway.

A report carried by the American Associated Press (AP) later said that the CH-53 Sea Stallion was carrying personnel from the 1st Marine Division when it went down about 1:20 a.m. near the town of ar-Rutbah, about 220 miles west of Baghdad, while conducting what it called “security operations.” The military statement said that 31 persons were killed aboard the craft.

US forces admit four Marines killed in al-Anbar Province.

The American military on Wednesday acknowledged that four Marines were killed in fighting in al-Anbar Province on Wednesday.

Hit.

Resistance shoots down US Apache helicopter Wednesday evening in Hit.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired a Strela surface-to-air rocket at a US Apache helicopter over the city of Hit at 5:30pm Wednesday evening. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the rocket struck the helicopter directly, causing it to blow up in mid-air, scattering wreckage and d暫ris down on rooftops of buildings in the al-Mu‘allimin neighborhood of the city.

In a dispatch posted at 7:20pm Mecca time Wednesday evening, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that as he wrote up his report, the burning wreckage of the helicopter still lay atop the roofs of four houses in the area, American troops unable to get to it because the Resistance was present in the streets in the area.

US landing ends in Resistance victory; 14 American troops reported killed in Hit.

US forces carried out a helicopter-born landing in the industrial zone east of Hit at 12 noon Wednesday, arresting five shopkeepers in the area. Iraqi Resistance forces clashed with the American attackers in the same neighborhood 15 minutes after they landed starting a battle that lasted over an hour and resulted in the deaths of 14 US troops and the wounding of seven others. One Apache helicopter that had landed was also destroyed. Nine Iraqi Resistance fighters were martyred in the fighting.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Hit reported that the Resistance fighters were able to free three of the men captured by the Americans, the other two were martyred in the fighting. Shopkeepers who hid in their stores but witnessed the engagement confirmed that some of the American troops who were killed were gunned down as they were trying to flee from the battlefield in the helicopters that had brought them.

Meanwhile the General Command of the Iraqi Islamic Resistance issued a communiqu, a copy of which the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam obtained, confirming that the battle had taken place.

Iraqi Resistance captures, executes three would-be assassins working for Iran.

The Iraqi Resistance arrested two Iranian agents and a person belonging to the Badr Brigade collaborationist gang in the city of Hit. The three were trying to assassinate one of the top commanders of the Resistance in Hit. They confessed to a number of crimes, including blowing up Iraqi oil pipelines. The Resistance executed them immediately after recording their confessions on audio and video tape.

Al-Fallujah.

US forces launch mass arrests, blow up houses to exert control over al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 7:20pm Mecca time, the al-Fallujah correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces were at the time of writing carrying out a large campaign of raids and arrests in the city, blowing up numerous homes of local residents.

US forces had ordered refugees from the city, who had left during the days of intense fighting, to return home. The Americans then threatened that they would be blowing up the houses of those who fail to go home quick enough.

The correspondent reports that the Americans’ sense of urgency in re-inhabiting al-Fallujah is prompted by their desire to surround themselves with large number of civilians in the hopes that the Resistance will then have a harder time of attacking the invaders. They also seek to “normalize” their occupation authority over the city.

In the last 10 days, US forces arrested more than 100 Iraqi youths. Some of them were later released but many remain imprisoned. American troops also harassed Iraqi women, threatening to arrest them, but local citizens put up such strong resistance to those American actions that they were forced to abandon such attempts.

Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance command announces start of “decisive operations,” orders all fighters on leave back to their units within three hours.

In a dispatch posted at 7:30pm Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the General Command of the Iraqi Islamic Resistance issued a communiqu a short while before that was broadcast from loudspeakers on mosques in Samarra’, ar-Ramadi, Mosul, Tikrit, Bayji, Kirkuk, Hit, Hadithah, ar-Rutbah, al-Qa’im, Hasibah, and Ba‘qubha; and which was issued as a written leaflet distributed in mosques in Baghdad, ad-Durah, al-Bayya‘, al-A‘zamiyah, al-Latifiyah, al-Mansur, al-‘Amiriyah al-Gharbiyah, al-Basrah, as-Samawah, al-Kut, as-Suwayrah and a number of other cities of south, central, and northern Iraq.

In the communiqu the General Command of the Iraqi Islamic Resistance proclaimed the beginning of clearly decisive operations against what it called “the infidel occupiers.” The communiqu called the new offensive: the Operations of the Children of Muhammad the Messenger of God to Break the Back of God’s Enemies.

The communiqu said that “today, Wednesday, 16 Dhu al-Hijjah 1425H, the equivalent of 26 January 2005 represents the beginning of the end of the occupation and its ultimate collapse.” It said that the Resistance fighters would “turn Iraq into a graveyard for the occupiers.”

The communiqu said: “We have prepared weapons, ammunition and men sufficient to shake the earth under the feet of the occupiers. Leading us is in this army of ours is Muhammad ibn ‘Abdallah the trustworthy Messenger of God, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him. Leading them is Bush, the infidel denier.”

“By God we will make the glory of the Community of Muhammad begin with this day and this battle. By God for us it is victory or paradise, and truly the morrow for him who seeks it is nigh. God is greatest! God is greatest! God is greatest! Victory is but from God!”

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the communiqu ordered all fighters, including those from al-Fallujah who had received permission to take leave with their families for two days after having pulled out of that city on 23 January, to return immediately to their fighting units, within three hours after the issuance of the communiqu.

The communiqu concluded in the name of the General Command of the Armed Iraqi Islamic Resistance and bore a seal resembling that of the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, a visual indication to all the fighting organizations that the command is following the directives, statements, and noble fighting practices of the Prophet Muhammad.
