Hit.

Massive land-mine explosion in Hit kills or wounds 25 Americans Friday morning.

Three anti-personnel landmines, planted by the side of a dirt road in the az-Zuhur neighborhood of the city of Hit, west of Baghdad, exploded simultaneously under a US foot patrol at 10am Friday morning, local time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces raced to the scene and began to evacuate their dead and wounded immediately, a total of more than 25 American casualties.

Only three of the American troops in the column were found to be uninjured. The correspondent wrote that he saw US Humvees leaving the scene of the attack stained with blood on their sides and rear sections, as each Humvee was loaded with five or six dead or wounded US troops.

Ar-Ramadi - al-Khalidiyah.

Resistance groups issue videos showing attacks.

A Brigade of the Islamic Army in Iraq announced its responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets at the US occupation forces’ base in ar-Ramadi, 100km west of Baghdad. In a video broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite TV, the Resistance group showed films of the attack showing black smoke billowing skyward after their attack on the base.

Meanwhile, another Iraqi Resistance organization called the Army of the Mujahideen issued a video tape claiming credit for the bombing of a US Humvee in the city of al-Khalidiyah, west of Baghdad.

Baghdad.

Resistance bomb kills three Australian troops in al-Jadiriyah area of Baghdad.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded in the path of an Australian foot patrol on al-Qanat Street in eastern Baghdad, destroying an Australian armored vehicle and killing three Australian troops and wounding two more. Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who arrived on the scene within 15 minutes after the blast, that a high explosive roadside bomb blew up near a car park on a street along which Australian troops regularly pass on their way to the Australian embassy in south Baghdad’s al-Jadiriyah area.

US forces backed by Iraqi puppet troops sealed off roads leading to the scene of the attack. The correspondent, in his report posted at 7:45pm Mecca time Friday night, wrote that US troops were at that moment searching cars that were parked along the street and houses in the area, but had not found anything.

Resistance battles puppet police in Salman Bak. Afterward, 20 puppet policemen are abducted from local hospital.

Iraqi puppet security sources announced on Friday that armed men abducted 20 puppet policemen, most of them wounded, from a local hospital in the al-Masa’in area (Salman Bak), 65km southeast of Baghdad, according to al-Jazeera satellite TV.

The abduction took place hours after violent clashes between the puppet police and the Iraqi Resistance in the area, in which more than 14 puppet police were killed and about 65 more wounded. The puppet police also lost 46 police cars in the fighting, which raged for several hours.

Puppet police sources said that masked men entered the local hospital in the town of al-Mada’in - the other name for Salman Bak - and abducted 20 puppet policemen at gunpoint, leading them to an unknown destination. The sources said that the armed men surrounded the hospital with at least six cars and then raided the building where the puppet policemen were receiving treatment.

Ba‘qubah.

Resistance land mine targets US patrol in Ba‘qubah Friday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded in the path of a US patrol of four Humvees in the ash-Shurtah neighborhood in the north of Ba‘qubah at 9:15am Friday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported that the blast disabled one Humvee, killing one US soldier and wounding three others. Iraqi puppet police and US forces rushed to the scene of the attack and encircled the area. After evacuating their casualties, they left the area.

Four Iranian saboteurs captured by Iraqi Resistance.

Iraqi Resistance fighters in the al-Mundhiriyah area on the Iranian border east of Ba‘qubah announced that on Thursday night they had arrested a new batch of Iranian saboteurs who had slipped across the border into Iraq to carry out sabotage and assassination of Sunni religious figures, as well as Sunni physicians, and academics and professors in Iraqi Universities, according to the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam.

The correspondent wrote that the Resistance captured five individuals. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent learned that the leader of the group, Karimi Rashidi, was a former member of the Iranian national guard (Khomayni’s Guard). The men were found in possession of numerous forged documents.

One Resistance fighter told Mafkarat al-Islam that the captives admitted that their intention was to carry out bombings during on the Shi‘i holiday of ‘Ashura’, and during the Shi‘i activities marking the occasion in the area of the tomb of the Imam ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib and other Shi‘i shrines throughout southern Iraq. The aim of such attacks was to incite sectarian strife between Shi‘i and Sunni Iraqis, opening a new, Iranian “front” against the Iraqi Resistance, in addition to the American “front,” in order to weaken the Resistance and deprive it of popular support.

A source in the Iraqi Resistance told Mafkarat al-Islam that they had completed their investigation of the captured Iranians who had confessed to everything. The source did not specifically say what became of the Iranians, but pledged that their confessions would be publicized at a later time. He said that they had informed the Muqtada as-Sadr organization of the matter so that they would be aware of what was really going on.

About one week earlier, Iraqi Resistance fighters captured and later executed 15 Iranian infiltrators who were found with a list of Sunni Iraqi scholars and their addresses. That group confessed that their mission was to assassinate those individuals and also to sabotage Iraqi oil pipelines leading to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, so that Iran could benefit from the fall in Iraqi oil output. The value of oil pumped through that pipeline is more than 10 million dollars per month, according to an Iraqi puppet oil official’s statement at the end of 2004.

Car bomb in Ba‘qubah area kills 12 puppet “national guards”.

An explosives-laden vehicle blew up in the Balad Ruz area of Ba‘qubah, north east of Baghdad on Friday. Reuters reported that 13 persons, most of them puppet “national guards” were killed and a number of others wounded in the blast that occurred near a Shi‘i mosque at a moment when services in connection with the Shi‘i observation of ‘Ashura’ were letting out.

Journalist Muhammad ash-Shamari who was near the area of the blast reported eyewitnesses as saying that they saw a white pickup parked on the side of the road near a Shi‘i mosque in Balad Ruz. The presence of the unknown vehicle aroused the suspicions of local people who informed the puppet police and puppet “national guard.”

Ash-Shamari told al-Jazeera satellite TV by telephone that minutes after the puppet guardsmen arrived on the scene, the pickup blew up. Then, when the puppet guard and police were busy recovering bodies, several mortar rounds landed in the area, raising the number of casualties.

Ash-Shamari reported puppet security sources as saying that 13 persons had been killed, 12 of them puppet guards, and that 40 other people were wounded, 30 of them also puppet “national guard” troops.

Later in the day, the Organization Base of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, a group affiliated with al-Qa‘idah and led by Abu Mus‘ab az-Zarqawi, took credit for the bombing in Balad Ruz, saying that a martyrdom attacker had carried out the assault on a patrol of the “idolatrous guard” al-Haras al-wathani a play on the Arabic words for “national guard” al-Haras al-watani as it passed through the streets of the town.

Mosul.

Rumsfeld forced to beat a retreat from Mosul.

Iraqi Resistance forces in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul met the US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld Friday morning with a barrage of 36 Grad rockets that blasted into the US al-Ghazlani airbase headquarters of the local American troops where Rumsfeld was visiting.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance announced that it had carried out an operation named “Share Hell with Your Soldiers” that began at 5:30am local time shortly after Rumsfeld’s helicopter touched down in al-Ghazlani base. The barrage ignited massive fires followed by the roar of secondary explosions as American munitions started going off. The thunder of the blasts could be heard throughout the city of Mosul, the correspondent reported.

The correspondent wrote that he personally saw US helicopters evacuating casualties while other helicopters came in to work on extinguishing the fires inside the base. Local witnesses, Iraqi puppet police, and so-called “rapid deployment forces” confirmed to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the US Defense Secretary left the base in a C130 airplane with airborne escort after the 36 rockets blasted in. Resistance fighters tried to shoot down Rumsfeld’s airplane with a SAM-7 rocket, but the missile went off course, leaving all the fleeing US aircraft unscathed.

Iraqi Resistance forces shoot down US Black Hawk helicopter before dawn Friday.

Iraqi Resistance forces in Tal‘afar, 550km north of Baghdad, shot down a US Black Hawk helicopter in the Atrak neighborhood west of the city. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam who went to the scene of the attack said that eyewitnesses described how a rocket had been fired at 3am, before dawn on Friday, at the US helicopter. The rocket hit it directly over the Atrak neighborhood. The two-man US crew was killed in the attack. Local witnesses took the correspondent to the site where the helicopter went down, igniting a large fire that destroyed more than a dunum (about 1,000 square meters) of farmland
