Hit.

US forces seal off Hit, impose curfew.

US occupation forces completely surrounded the rebellious city of Hit and ordered a curfew imposed. The curfew is to go into effect at 10pm and lasts until 6am.

The Americans deployed more than 150 armored vehicles and tanks around the city. US snipers took up positions on high rooftops, preventing all local people from coming out of their houses under threat of being shot on sight.

The US occupation forces announced that the repressive measures would remain in force until local people turned in Resistance fighters to the Americans or at least handed over the weapons and rockets that are used to shoot down American helicopters from time to time.

All Wednesday morning, the Iraqi Resistance refrained from responding to the American repressive measures, waiting to see how things go, the local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported. A member of the Resistance told the correspondent that they believe that the measures the Americans have been taking were designed to try to draw the Resistance into a battle on disadvantageous terms.

Iraqi Resistance forces launch ground assault on US Marine checkpoint in Hit Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 5:11pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit reported that Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a US Marine inspection barrier west of the city using shoulder-fired rockets, bazookas, C5K pipe rockets, and medium weight machine guns. The correspondent reported that the Resistance took advantage of the fact that the occupation troops were busy taking care of the aftermath of the rocket barrage that had struck their position half an hour before when they launched this ground attack.

The correspondent, who was close to the scene of the attack, said that he estimated the number of Resistance fighters who took part in the attack to have been about 40 men. As he compiled his report afterwards, he said he could see tow US Humvees that had been destroyed and fire blazing inside the US checkpoint. He said that the Resistance advanced towards that checkpoint when they detected a certain weakness in the US response to their shots.

Iraqi Resistance wipes out American troops manning checkpoint in Hit Wednesday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 6:10pm Wednesday night Mecca time, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit reported that Iraqi Resistance forces a short while before had attacked a US checkpoint wiping out all the American troops there.

The correspondent wrote that the Resistance attack left 12 US troops dead - the entire force that was manning the checkpoint. In addition three Humvees were totally destroyed in the attack. The correspondent confirmed that Resistance fighters seized US weapons and military equipment from the position.

Resistance vows to fight as massive American armored columns advance on Hit from four directions Wednesday night.

In a dispatch posted at 8:26pm Wednesday night Mecca time, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit reported that massive US military columns had been withdrawing from the cities of ‘Anah, Rawah, and Hadithah to head for Hit. The correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that the massive US columns included tanks, armored vehicles and hitherto unknown American fighting vehicles.

The columns, including their heavy equipment, were seen advancing towards Hit from four directions, indicating that zero hour was at hand for expected American attacks on the city, likely to be the longest such operations targeting the city so far.

The correspondent reported that Resistance forces in Hit had broadcast over mosque loudspeakers that Hit will become the second al-Fallujah for the US occupation forces. The Resistance pledged to fight no matter how large the American force advancing on the city turned out to be.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance bomb leaves 17 US troops dead north of al-Fallujah Tuesday night.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded at a US checkpoint north of al-Fallujah at about 11pm Tuesday night local time, killing 17 US troops and wounding others, the local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

An officer in the Iraqi puppet forces told Mafkarat al-Islam that a Resistance martyrdom fighter driving a government pickup with an Iraqi Commerce Ministry license plate slammed into a US checkpoint on the al-Fallujah - as-Saqlawiyah road at 11pm. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, who attended a press conference together with a reporter for the Washington Post, wrote that 17 American troops were killed in the attack and that a large number were wounded. One of those injured was the deputy commander of US forces in al-Fallujah.

Local residents confirmed that the blast echoed through the areas of al-Fallujah and that it blew out the glass in windows in near-by buildings. More than three US helicopters were called in to evacuate the dead and wounded.

Al-Qa’im.

Iraqi Resistance fires heavy barrage at US base near Syrian border.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired seventeen 120mm mortar rounds into the US A22 base in al-Qa’im on the border with Syria, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. A source in the second squadron of the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” told the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in the city that the Resistance fired the heavy barrage at 4pm Wednesday local time, killing and wounding a number of US soldiers. The correspondent confirmed that the Resistance barrage set massive fires burning inside the US facility and large numbers of American helicopters could be observed hovering over the base.

Resistance bombards US facility in al-Qa’im.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded a US camp in the Customs area of al-Qa’im on the border with Syria according to the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam. The correspondent noted that Resistance fighters fired six 60mm mortar rounds into the base on Wednesday, having hit the same facility on Tuesday with two Grad rockets that sent clouds of smoke rising into the sky.

US forces then bombarded several locations in the city, one of which they suspected must be the source of the incoming rocket and mortar fire. One of the targets hit by the Americans was a spot near the ar-Rummanah Bridge.

Puppet national guards found butchered in al-Qa’im.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im reported that the bodies of two members of the puppet “national guard” were found with their throats slit. The corpses were dumped on the al-Karabilah road.

Four American troops were killed aboard the vehicles. The fighting lasted nearly 15 minutes, according to the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam.

Ar-Ramadi.

Puppet Iraqi “government” declares Saturday weekly holiday; al-Anbar Province refuses to comply.

In a two-hour expanded meeting of tribal and religious leaders, college professors, and other prominent persons of al-Anbar Province held in the house of a tribal Shaykh in ar-Ramadi on Wednesday morning it was decided that the people of the Province would not comply with the order of the US-installed government to make every Saturday a public holiday Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

Wednesday morning’s meeting followed a surprise announcement by the puppet “government” in Baghdad made without consultation or prior public discussion, declaring Saturday to be a weekly holiday. Traditionally Friday, the Muslim day of congregational prayer, has been Iraqis’ day off work.

The reporter for the London-based al-Quds al-‘Arabi newspaper reported on Wednesday that Iraqis were shocked by the news, particularly since the US-installed government is still embroiled in working out the results of the farcical “election” held on 30 January, and is still supposedly wrestling unsuccessfully with the tasks of trying to get basic economic functions and utility services to work.

Dr. Mahmud ‘Abdallah in Baghdad told al-Quds al-‘Arabi that the educational establishment had not been told of the new holiday and that they knew nothing about it. They had been working with a weekly two-day holiday of Thursday and Friday this academic year. Dr. ‘Abdallah was amazed that a matter that would cause major changes in all the educational institutions from primary schools through universities could be decreed by the US-installed regime without any prior notification or discussion.

Dr. ‘Abdallah noted that the US-installed regime was in the habit, in fact, of making sudden disclosures of major changes affecting the country’s sovereignty and people’s lives with no prior discussion or warning. He pointed out that the regime had issued similar surprise decrees whey they tried to impose a new flag for the country, when they changed the country’s emblem and national anthem, when they changed the civil status law and in other such instances.

The suddenness of the decree that was announced without explanation also aroused suspicions that Zionist Jewish influence might lie behind the imposition of a Saturday holiday.

In the ar-Ramadi meeting on Wednesday, which the local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam attended, speakers expressed the view that the decree was the beginning of a dangerous period for the Iraqi people.

The correspondent met with a religious scholar who was present at the meeting and asked him why the gathering was called in the first place and why they had decided to reject the Saturday holiday decree. The scholar responded, “It’s a serious issue the dimensions of which God alone knows.”

“Saturday is a holiday for Christians and Jews,” the religious scholar went on, “but it’s a day of work and God the Exalted has permitted us to earn money and go to work on that day.”

He continued, “We already told them, ‘if you want a holiday next to Friday then make it Thursday. It’s a blessed day of joy when people can get ready for Friday. There’s also a tradition of fasting on Thursday, and what we do is seen by God.’ But they refused because the American embassy was opposed to Thursday.”

“It’s not surprising coming from them,” the religious scholar went on. “Some Arab countries have done it, have made Saturday a holiday. But it’s wrong. The Prophet, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, said ‘Be different from the Jews and Christians.’ But this way we are following them, may God pardon us.”

The scholar said that the meeting called on all government departments to continue to come to work as usual on Saturday, and schools and colleges too. He said that next Saturday a new semester will begin in all official and unofficial departments in al-Anbar.

The scholar concluded, saying, “We don’t care about any decree issued by a government appointed by the occupation, whether they wanted this or didn’t want it.”

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the Resistance welcomed the government decree, however, considering it a slat at the face of the government itself, exposing it as a stooge regime.

Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance brings down two observation towers with barrage on Abu Ghurayb prison camp.

Iraqi Resistance forces launched a rocket barrage at the US prison camp Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad at 7 on Wednesday. Mafkarat al-Islam reported in a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Mecca time that eyewitnesses said that the Resistance fired 11 mortar rounds into the prison camp, destroying two observation towers and killing four American troops. The towers had been built so that American forces could keep watch for approaching car bombs that might be aimed at the prison.

Local residents who witnessed the attack reported that the two towers collapsed and the four Americans were killed in the barrage. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent was unable to ascertain any additional information on American losses inside the prison.

Resistance fighters, however, reassured families of prisoners being held in the American facility, emphasizing that the attack targeted very precise areas within the compound - specifically barracks used by the US troops that are far from the areas where the prisoners are being held.

Resistance fires rocket barrage into US base north of Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance forces mounted a rocket attack on the US base in the city of at-Tarimiyah north of Baghdad in a facility formerly occupied by the Seventh Brigade of the Iraqi Army before the US invasion. The Americans refer to the base as al-Layth ‘Lion’ Base.

The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that seven Resistance rockets blasted into the US base at 1pm Wednesday, sending columns of thick smoke and flames into the sky. Sirens wailed inside the base and US helicopters were observed landing in the base to evacuate casualties.

Iraqi Resistance assassinates collaborator official in Shi‘i chauvinist Da‘wah Party.

Iraqi Resistance fighters assassinated Khalil ‘Ali, a political official in the Shi‘i chauvinist Da‘wah Party - headed by the man likely to be named the next puppet prime- minister, Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari. The American CNN TV company reported that Resistance fighters opened fire on Khalil ‘Ali as he left a mosque in al-Miqdadiyah, 97km north of Baghdad, after the night prayers on Tuesday night. CNN said that ‘Ali was a member of the puppet municipal council of al-Miqdadiyah.

The US military admitted that one American soldier had been killed in northern on Wednesday. The American CNN TV company reported on its website that the US military had announced the death, saying that it was the result of an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb that exploded near the town of Tuz in northern Iraq.

Al-Latifiyah.

Resistance forces kill 29 puppet forces in attack in al-Latifiyah Wednesday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a group of Shi‘i chauvinist Badr Brigade collaborationist gunmen in al-Latifiyah at 10:15am Wednesday, killing 22 of them, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The correspondent wrote that Badr Brigade gunmen entered the city guarded by Iraqi puppet police in order to set up facilities of Shi‘i rites of “glorifying al-Husayn” (the patron saint of the Shi‘ah).

Then a group of fewer than 10 Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked the puppet police patrol that was guarding the Badr Brigade gunmen, killing seven of them and sending the rest of the force fleeing from the scene.

US forces then arrived on the scene of the fighting, but did nothing, simply withdrawing from the area that was covered in blood and strewn with bodies - increasing the discontent of the Iraqi puppet police who had expected stronger support from their American masters.

One member of the puppet police who showed up in the area with the Americans and the puppet “national guard” complained to Mafkarat al-Islam, “we used to believe it when they said, ‘when we lose one of your policemen, we feel pain just as we do when we loose one of our own soldiers.’ But now it’s become clear that was a lie. The Resistance is nobler than us and than the Americans. At least they don’t leave their dead in the street and run away like dogs.”

Al-Yusufiyah.

Resistance bomb targets US column in al-Yusufiyah.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blew up a car bomb by a US military column made up of three vehicles at 4pm Wednesday local time in the ad-Dulaym section of western al-Yusufiyah. The blast destroyed a Humvee and killed five US troops, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. A source in the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the explosion killed five American troops and wounded two more who were riding in the vehicle following the one that was hit directly by the bomb.

Mosul.

Resistance car bomb hits US column.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded next to a US military patrol in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The local correspondent wrote that the car bomb exploded at 8am Wednesday by a US column, killing eight persons - seven US troops and one Iraqi collaborator translator.

The correspondent reported a source in the local puppet police as saying that the white Daewoo car exploded next to a US column made up of four various US vehicles in the al-Ba‘aj area of the city, destroying three various types of Humvee and killing seven US troops and one Iraqi translator. The source said that a masked Resistance martyrdom fighter drove the Daewoo at very high speed into the US column. The American troops opened fire on the approaching car but that didn’t stop it.

For its part the Squadrons of ‘Abd ar-Rahman announced their responsibility for the attack in an announcement posted on the door of a local Mosul mosque at midday Wednesday.

Kirkuk.

Resistance bombardment sets American base in Kirkuk ablaze.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired an intense barrage at the US base that occupies Kirkuk International Airport at 6:25am local time Wednesday morning. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Resistance forces fired fourteen 120mm mortar rounds into the base setting massive fires inside the facility. Clouds of smoke covered the area, as US Apache and Cobra helicopters flew in overhead.

Because the fires in the airport were so intense, for the first time the US troops called on the local Iraqi fire department to help put out the blazes. One fireman confirmed to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that he saw the bodies of a number of dead troops and foreign base employees under the rubble inside the facility and in the flames. The fireman, who asked that his identity not be revealed, said that the US forces pulled about 20 completely charred bodies of Americans from under the wrecked buildings.

The correspondent reported that the explosion left one Polish occupation soldier dead and three more wounded.

The correspondent reported that the Resistance had planted the bomb on the well-known an-Nidafayn Street in downtown al-Hillah. A source in the local puppet police told the correspondent that the blast destroyed one Polish armored vehicle in addition to inflicting the casualties among the Polish troops. A woman and her child were also slightly injured in the explosion.

Al-Basrah.

Resistance bombs target British column in al-Basrah early Wednesday.

The Iraqi Resistance group the Jihadi Brigades of al-Hasan al-Basri planted four roadside bombs a certain distance apart along the road from az-Zubayr to the center of al-Basrah, a route frequented several times by British columns every day. At 7am the bombs went off by a British column as it passed down the road, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

Witnesses told the correspondent that three of the bombs struck targets in the British patrol, the fourth exploded but hit nothing. The three effective blasts, however, killed or wounded a total of 11 British troops according to witnesses who were in the street at the time and saw the attack.

British troops surrounded the scene of the attack and prevented anyone approaching. A correspondent for a newspaper published in Britain was given a beating by British soldiers when he took pictures of the three wrecked vehicles and the British casualties strewn about the street.
