Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 9 March 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The Free Arab Voice.

Wednesday, 9 March 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.

Resistance car bomb kills nine US troops outside US base Wednesday evening.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US command post at the western entrance to the American base known as “as-Saqr” (“the Falcon”) in which US Marines are stationed in the city of al-Habbaniyah west of Baghdad. The correspondent reported in a dispatch posted at 6:19pm Mecca time Wednesday evening that witnesses said that a white Oldsmobile exploded at the US checkpoint, destroying the station completely and killing nine American troops. Seven more American soldiers were severely injured in the explosion.

Resistance bombards US headquarters at al-Habbaniyah early Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 1:50pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before Iraqi Resistance forces had begun bombarding the western parts of the US as-Saqr (“the Falcon”) base in al-Habbaniyah, about 80km west of Baghdad. The western parts of the base are known as “al-Hadbah” (“the Hights”) and it is there that the headquarters of the US forces in the western regions of Iraq are located.

The correspondent reported that at the time of writing the Americans were replying with artillery fire at the source of the Resistance attack. But the Resistance was still firing Katyusha rockets and 120mm mortar shells into the US base from which plumes of black and white smoke were rising into the sky.

Hit.

Resistance pounds US base in Hit early Wednesday.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired seven Grad rockets into the US base west of Hit at 6am Wednesday morning Mafkarat al-Islam reported. Local eyewitnesses said that the rockets blasted into what was formerly the al-Qadisiyah Iraqi Airbase now occupied by the American forces.

The attack was concentrated on the southern parts of the American base. Witnesses saw extremely dense smoke rising in clouds over the area after the bombardment and heard nine very powerful explosions shake the American-occupied facility. Those blasts were believed to originate on the runway in the base where US warplanes were parked.

In a dispatch posted at 1:55pm Wednesday, the correspondent reported that fires were still burning and that US occupation forces had brought in helicopters at about 7am to help fight the blazes and they were still working at it. Seeing this, local residents believed that the Resistance rockets must have hit the US aircraft on the runway in the southern part of the base.

Al-Qa’im.

Bodies of unknown identity found at two sites in occupied Iraq.

Iraqi puppet officials said on Wednesday that 41 bodies, some killed by gunshot, others beheaded, were found at two sites in Iraq. Twenty-six bodies of unknown identity were found in the village of ar-Rummanah, west of al-Qa’im on the Syrian border. Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported the local hospital as saying that it had received 19 of the corpses. Medical sources said that the cause of death was gunshots.

On Tuesday an officer in the Iraqi puppet army announced that they had discovered 15 beheaded bodies on a former military base near al-Latifiyah, 40km south of Baghdad. Puppet officer Muhammad ‘Abd al-Husayn a-Sa’idi said that the puppet army raided the former Hittin military base that they believed Resistance fighters were using. There they found the bodies, he said. The officer claimed that troops began their raid after receiving reports that some Shi‘i pilgrims on their way to the cities of an-Najaf and Karbala’ had disappeared near al-Latifiyah.

Pro-American Shi‘i chauvinist religious leaders and organizations have been attempting to exacerbate sectarian differences in Iraq in an attempt to derail the Iraqi Resistance. It is unknown what relationship these reports have to such attempts.

Baghdad.

Resistance bomb kills eight US troops, wounds four more in ad-Durah.

In a dispatch posted at 6:10pm Mecca time Wednesday night, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in ad-Durah reported that a short while earlier an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column made up of several vehicles in the Iskaniya area, where the Americans have a base in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. The blast destroyed two Humvees and killed eight US troops immediately, wounding four more.

The correspondent reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom driver slammed a pickup into the US column and blew himself and his truck up. The fighter’s body was found thrown some 40 meters from the scene of the attack.

At the time he submitted his report, the correspondent wrote that US troops had encircled the area and imposed a curfew on the whole area.

To boost sagging troop morale, US flies in hundreds of ministers, priests, rabbis.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Wednesday that a spokesman for the US occupation forces in Saddam International Airport had announced that to boost the sagging morale of the American occupation troops hundreds of Christian clergymen and Jewish rabbis have been flown into Iraq to hold services with the troops.

An officer at the airport, who declined to reveal his name, told Mafkarat al-Islam that in February and now in March there has been a flood of more than 400 Christian clergymen and Jewish rabbis brought into Iraq via Saddam International Airport ミ where the US has one of its main bases in the country. The clergymen are to give sermons and hold religious services for the US troops occupying the country.

The source said that all the clergymen have been brough tin on US planes under heavy American protection. Over 150 of them went straight to al-Anbar Province, then to Mosul, Ba‘qubah, and Samarra’. Another group o them remained for 10 days in Baghdad where they held services for 330 American mercenaries who had been buried in Iraq or thrown into the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

They said services in the US base in the agricultural area near al-Fallujah and at the ‘Ayn al-Asad base in Hadithah, at the al-Layth base in at-Tarimiyah, and at the al-Ghazlani base in Mosul. The move followed complaints by the Vatican that prayers were not being said for US troops and their Asian and African service workers when they are killed on occupation duty in Iraq.

The source told Mafkarat al-Islam, “I wouldn’t have believed this if I hadn’t had to work in the airport where I saw the clergy as they landed in the airport wearing all their religious clothing. American personnel also informed me of the reason for their arrival and what they are doing here by US personnel that the reason for their arrival in Iraq,” the source told the correspondent.

Salah ad-Din Province.
At-Tarimiyah.

Iraqi Resistance sets off explosion in bomb hidden among gas cylinders, killing at least 14 US troops in at-Tarimiyah, north of Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 7:30pm Wednesday night Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source with the rank of captain in the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” told the correspondent that a gas canister filled with explosives blew up by a column of US troops on foot in at-Tarimiyah, north of Baghdad. The source said that the bomb was hidden in a gas canister among other such canisters of liquefied gas that a youth was selling to local people on the black market. The blast killed 14 US troops instantly.

The correspondent reported that the source, who did not want his identity revealed, said that the gas cylinder was used to conceal the bomb because US troops frequently sweep that street searching for explosives. The street where the attack took place was well known as a place where liquefied gas is regularly sold.

The source explained that when the explosive cylinder blew up, that detonated all the other gas canisters, raising the number of casualties. He said the number of Americans killed or injured would have been still higher but for the fact that they walk far apart from one another.

Witnesses on the scene told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance asked the gas cylinder sellers to leave their cylinders and go far away from the street because they were going to be attacking the occupation troops there. One seller of the gas said, “we took off quickly leaving our goods behind, and it wasn’t more than 15 minutes before the US column came and the bomb exploded.

Witnesses reported that the Resistance fighters withdrew from that area after destroying a total of three vehicles, inflicting a large number of dead in the American ranks without taking any significant losses themselves.
