Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance bomb kills five US troops south of al-Habbaniyah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US column of five military vehicles in the village of al-Fahhamah, south of al-Habbaniyah, 80km west of Baghdad, destroying one Humvee and killing five US troops. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported a captain in the local puppet police as saying that the bomb was planted by the side of a road and blew up as a US column was passing at 8am Wednesday. The correspondent himself saw a large US crane and several American military ambulances hauling away the vehicle and the bodies from the scene.

Hit.

Iraqi Resistance shoots down US Cobra helicopter near Hit Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 3:40pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before, Iraqi Resistance forces had shot down a US Cobra helicopter in the az-Zawiyah area west of Hit, (which is west of Baghdad). The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit reported that Resistance fire sent the helicopter crashing in flames to the ground where it exploded on impact. A source in the Iraqi Resistance told Mafkarat al-Islam that the two-man crew of the helicopter was killed instantly.

After the attack, US forces encircled the crash area and began a search for the remains of the crew using search dogs.

Al-Qa’im.

Resistance fires rocket barrage into US base in al-Qa’im Wednesday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired nine powerful Tariq surface-to-surface rockets into the US base in al-Qa’im, on the border with Syria, at 4pm local time Wednesday afternoon. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast sent dense clouds of smoke rising into the sky as powerful secondary explosions rocked the whole area - indicating that US munitions were beginning to explode.

The correspondent reported that US helicopters flew about over the base for half an hour, witnesses said, evacuating a large number of dead and wounded to the American ‘Ayn al-Asad base, the main US base in al-Anbar Province.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance pounds US base Wednesday evening.

In a dispatch posted at 7:15pm Mecca time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported from al-Fallujah that a short while before Iraqi Resistance fighters had unleashed a fierce bombardment on the US base in the agricultural area east of the city.

The correspondent reported that the attack had begun about a quarter hour before he submitted his report and was still going on at the time of writing. At that point more than 20 mortar rounds had blasted into the US facility and local people could all see the dense smoke rising over the American camp as sirens wail inside.

Baghdad.

Resistance bombardment drives puppet “national assembly” to hold session hiding in a hole under ground.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired a barrage of 13 mortar rounds into the Palace of Congresses or “Convention Center” inside the headquarters compound of the US occupation that is centered on the occupied Republican Palace. The whole area is the nerve center of the American occupation and has been dubbed the “green zone” by the invaders.

The Resistance bombardment coincided with the opening on Wednesday of the first session of the so-called “national assembly” which brings together Shi‘i chauvinist and Kurdish chauvinist collaborator parties that played roles in the American-run farce known as “elections” on 30 January 2005.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported official puppet sources as saying that the 13 mortar shells blasted into the Palace of Congresses, five of them landing near where the meeting of the puppet “assembly” was going on. The attack frightened the stooges into halting their session and moving to another location.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent asked the puppet official where the “assembly” had moved to, and he refused to disclose the location. Informed sources told the correspondent, however, that the “assembly” held the rest of their meeting in one of the bomb shelters in a hole under the palace grounds.

Iraqi Resistance bomb in as-Sayyidiyah kills four US troops midday Wednesday.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb in the well-to-do as-Sayyidiyah neighborhood of east Baghdad - where officers in the Iraqi Army formerly lived - blew up at 12 noon local time Wednesday by a US military column of five armored vehicles. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed one Humvee and disabled a second. The explosion killed four US troops and wounded two more. The dead soldiers were riding in the vehicle that was directly hit by the blast, while those who were wounded were in the vehicle immediately behind it.

After the attack, US forces encircled the area and arrested residents of nearby houses.

Resistance fighters assassinate Badr Brigade gunmen in as-Suwayrah.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked members of the Shi‘i chauvinist collaborationist Badr Brigades in the al-Husayn neighborhood of as-Suwayrah, south of Baghdad on Wednesday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in as-Suwaryrah reported that Resistance fighters equipped with light arms and hand grenades attacked four and killed Badr Brigade gunmen.

Local Sunni citizens told Mafkarat al-Islam that the reason why those particular Badr Brigade gunmen were targeted was because they had seized control of a Sunni mosque in which all the local Sunnis worship, and turned it into a Shi‘i Husayniyah.

A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam that first reports indicated that the attackers belonged to the at-Tawhid wa-al-Jihad Resistance organization. The puppet police and puppet troops encircled the area of the attack and then carried out a search for the attackers, but failed to turn up anything pertinent.

Bomb blasts occupation newspaper offices.

A powerful explosion ripped through the offices of the Baghdad Mirror a weekly English-language newspaper in the center of the occupied Iraqi capital on Wednesday. The newspaper was set up after the American occupation of Iraq in spring 2003.

Witnesses reported that the blast might have caused casualties. Reuters reported ambulances rushing to the newspaper’s headquarters in the area where the National Theater and various hotels that house foreign profiteers and mercenaries. Initial reports said that it was as yet undetermined as to whether the blast was the result of a mortar attack or a car bomb explosion. The building was quickly engulfed in flames.

Ukrainian occupation troops begin retreat from Iraq.

The first contingent of 130 Ukrainian occupation troops left Iraq on Tuesday in implementation of Kiev’s decision to withdraw its forces from the country. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced that two helicopters carried 137 Ukrainian aggressor soldiers who had been based near as-Suwayrah south of Baghdad back to a Ukrainian base south of Kiev.

The Ukrainian statement said that it plans to withdraw 550 more troops on 15 May and to complete their withdrawal by the end of 2005. The entire Ukrainian contingent numbered 1,650 troops.

Diyala Province.

Ba‘qubah.

Seven US troops killed in martyrdom bombing in Ba‘qubah Wednesday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a US checkpoint in the Jalula’ area of Ba‘qubah, east of Baghdad at 9am Wednesday morning local time. The local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast destroyed two US military Humvees and killed seven US troops and one Iraqi collaborator working with the Americans as a translator.

The correspondent himself saw three US helicopters land less than an hour after the explosion to haul the bodies away to the US base in the Kharnabat area.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Balad.

Abu Rim, correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, joins the ranks of the martyrs as Americans gun him down for filming US helicopters ablaze.

Veteran Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent Khalid ‘Abd al-Jabbar, known as Abu Rim, member of the Iraqi Journalists Union in Samarra’ and former correspondent for Reuters and Agence France Presse (AFP) was martyred in Balad on Tuesday night. US soldiers opened fire on ‘Abd al-Jabbar as he was trying to film one of two American helicopters set ablaze in fighting Tuesday evening on the banks of the Tigris River in that city. A US sniper’s bullet pierced ‘Abd al-Jabbar’s heart. He was rushed to the local hospital but died minutes before arriving there according to a statement by the doctor on duty at the time who received his body.

Throngs of mourners took to the streets for ‘Abd al-Jabbar’s funeral today (Wednesday) in tribute to his efforts to document their struggle. The mourners marched all the way from Balad to Samarra’ with his body, holding the midday prayers there and then seeing him interred in the Martyrs’ Cemetery in that city. No one is allowed to be buried there unless the ‘Ulama’ (religious scholars) of the city regard his work as having been for the sake of God. ‘Abd al-Jabbar was buried next to his brother. ‘Abd al-Jabbar’s father refused to accept condolences but held a gathering to receive well-wishers.

The last report submitted by the Martyr Khalid ‘Abd al-Jabbar was his coverage of the fierce fighting that raged in Balad Tuesday between some 70 Resistance fighters and 500 US occupation troops backed by vehicles, helicopters, and fighter planes. More than six US Humvees, three armored vehicles, and one tank were destroyed in that battle and a number of Marines died. (See: “Heavy fighting lights up Tuesday night near Balad,” and the continuation of that report headlined, “Resistance shoots down two US helicopters in Battle of Balad, as city pours out to fight the American invaders. .” in Iraqi Resistance Report, Tuesday, 15 March 2005.)

Al-Basrah Province.

Al-Basrah.

Four British troops killed in martyrdom bombing in al-Basrah.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden Chevrolet into a British armored vehicle in the Abu al-Khasib area south of al-Basrah on Wednesday, destroying the vehicle and killing at least four British occupation troops and inflicting what were described as “mortal” injuries on three more British soldiers. The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported local residents who witnessed the attack as sources for the casualty count, adding that a member of the local puppet city council of al-Basrah confirmed the toll in an interview.
