Saturday, 26 March 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Qa’im.

Resistance bombards US base near al-Qa’im Saturday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US base called A22 near al-Qa’im on the Syrian border with medium-range surface-to-surface rockets at about 10am Saturday morning, sending plumes of dense smoke rising over the American facility.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported residents of the area surrounding the camp who witnessed the attack as saying that they hear violent explosions shake the base, followed by secondary blasts, the source of which they did not know, but which were probably US munitions going off. As usual there was no word on the extent of US damage or casualties.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Twelve American troops reported killed in Resistance rocket attack on al-Habbaniyah.

Iraqi Resistance forces launched a barrage at the US base in al-Habbaniyah, 80km west of Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Habbaniyah reported that the base, now called as-Saqr (“the Falcon”) Airbase was struck by six medium-range Katyusha rockets at about 12 noon local time, killing at least 12 US troops and wounding 20 more, according to a source in the puppet so-called “Iraqi rapid deployment unit” in the base. The source said that most of the rockets fired by the Resistance blasted into a building where US troops gather during off-duty relaxation periods. This fact caused the relatively high number of casualties.

The correspondent reported that four US helicopters landed in the base after the attack to evacuate the many dead and wounded.

Al-Fallujah.

Nine US troops die as fighting rages in al-Fallujah Friday night.

Fighting broke out in the neighborhoods of al-Jawlan and al-Wahdah in the west and center of al-Fallujah around 10pm Friday night. Resistance fighters armed with light and medium-weight weapons battled US invaders and their Iraqi stooges, killing nine US troops and six puppet members of the so-called “rapid deployment force of the Iraqi national guards.” The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam obtained the casualty figures from a member of the Iraqi puppet military’s medical personnel who spoke to the correspondent on Saturday morning.

The source added that the fighting lasted for about an hour and a half and that three Resistance fighters were martyred. The three were local men and were earlier described as civilians.

Al-Fallujah now back to where it was in April 2004 before first US offensive. Clashes, bombings, snipings by Resistance a daily occurrence.

In a report on activity throughout the last week in al-Fallujah, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the city reported Saturday that after the renewal of fighting in the city about two weeks ago, armed clashes have taken place on virtually a daily basis in various neighborhoods of the city.

A high ranking officer in the puppet forces told Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah that combat, bombings, and Iraqi Resistance sniping incidents have reemerged in al-Fallujah on a scale no one can overlook.

The source said that al-Fallujah had returned to the situation in which it was before the first American offensive against the city in April 2004. Statistics compiled by the Iraqi puppet forces reveal that there were 11 bomb attacks by the Iraqi Resistance on US and puppet targets and 10 armed clashes inside the city in the last nine days. In the course of these battles and bombings, more than 40 US troops and 33 Iraqi puppet soldiers have been killed during that period.

The US forces have taken new security measures in view of the upsurge in Resistance activity in al-Fallujah. They have resumed random searches of houses and persons in the streets. They have begun offering huge rewards for information about Resistance fighters in the city, but, the correspondent reports, none of that money has yet been spent.

For the first time since the end of the last US offensive on the city, unmanned US spy planes have begun flying over the city again. Curfews have returned to the city and their hours have been extended: the curfew now starts at 7pm where it used to begin at 8pm or later.

Another American security measure is that the US forces have taken to cutting off both landed and wireless communications between the city and the outside world and threatened any Iraqi found to be in possession of a satellite-linked telephone.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent has also learned that more than 150 Iraqi puppet troops have deserted from al-Fallujah during the first week following the resumption of armed attacks in the city. This brings the official number of desertions from the Iraqi puppet forces in al-Fallujah alone to 231 desertions, in addition to more than 21 Iraqi puppet policemen who have fled from their jobs in the city.

Baghdad.

Blasts shake US base in Saddam International Airport.

Several explosions rocked Saddam International Airport in Baghdad at about 8am Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The Resistance attacks targeted the eastern parts of the airport ﾐ which the US invaders use as one of their main bases in occupied Iraq. The correspondent witnessed dense clouds of smoke rising over the facility.

Badr Brigade collaborator liquidated by Iraqi Resistance in Baghdad ambush.

In a dispatch posted at 11:20am Mecca time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported from Baghdad that a short while before Iraqi Resistance fighters had attacked the motorcade of a commander of the Badr Brigades, the armed wing of the Shi‘i chauvinist collaborationist so-called Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) in the southern Baghdad area of al-Ghazaliyah.

In their attack, the Resistance liquidated ‘Abd al-Husayn ‘Abd al-A’immah, the commander of the military organization for the Badr Brigades in Baghdad’s al-Karakh district, and five of his aides.

The correspondent reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that a number of Resistance fighters attacked the two cars with medium and light arms, spraying them both with a hail of bullets, and killing the collaborator commander and his five companions.

Local residents who saw the attack told the correspondent that it was the Resistance that carried out the attack. They were sure of that fact they said, “because four of them told us not to approach the street for fear of that we might be exposed to gunfire. They said to us that today they intend to execute a traitor and they advised us to move away from the area.”

One witness said ten Resistance fighters attacked the two cars, both black Chevrolet sedans, with medium machine guns, spraying them with a dense hail of bullets and leaving them motionless. They then got in their cars and left the area in at great speed.

The correspondent reported that the puppet police and US forces showed up late on the scene to find that the Resistance had left a message on a piece of paper on the top of the car of the Badr Brigade commander saying something like, “’Say, death will overtake you even though you may take refuge in lofty towers.’ probably an allusion to Qur’an 4:78. Note by translator.. And the columns of occupation troops will in no way protect you and your masters from our strikes.” (The correspondent noted that he did not see the note, which was taken by the puppet police but only heard second-hand reports on its contents.)

The correspondent reported a puppet police source as saying that the note was printed, not hand written.

After the attack the Iraqi puppet police and US forces surrounded the area and ambulances arrived to haul the bodies away from the area to the main al-Yarmuk hospital, the biggest hospital in Baghdad.

Salah ad-Din Province.

At-Tarimiyah.

Three US troops killed in Resistance bombing at noon on Saturday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a four- Humvee US patrol in at-Tarimiyah, north of Baghdad at 12 noon local time Saturday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of the area who witnessed the blast as saying that the bomb destroyed one US Humvee and killed three American troops and seriously wounded one more.

The witnesses said that Resistance fighters planted the bomb on a dirt road in the area and blew it up the moment the US patrol passed by it at about 12 noon. The correspondent reported that after the blast, US forces encircled the area for a full hour, preventing journalists from approaching. They also stormed into neighboring houses in search of the Resistance fighters who planted the bomb but they found nothing.

Ad-Dulu‘iyah.

Three US troops killed in Resistance ambush on US supply convoy.

In a dispatch posted at 5:05pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters armed with RPG7 rocket-propelled grenade launchers and pipe rocket launchers attacked a US military truck column bringing supplies to American occupation forces in ad-Dulu‘iyah.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in ad-Dulu‘iyah reported local residents who witnessed the attack as saying that a number of Resistance fighters ﾐ some said, about eight of them ﾐ attacked the US convoy of 10 army supply trucks and four Humvees on the main road in the city. The Resistance fighters set two of the trucks ablaze and killed three US troops and wounded one other. After the attack US forces encircled the area and prevented journalists from approaching.

Diyala Province.

Ba‘qubah.

Resistance bomb kills four US troops in Ba‘qubah Saturday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US foot patrol in the center of Ba‘qubah at about 8am Saturday morning, witnesses who live in the area told Mafkarat al-Islam. The witnesses reported that the bomb was planted by the side of the main road in the at-Ta’mim neighborhood, a road known as al-Hubub Street. They said that it exploded as a US patrol was passing, killing four American troops and mortally wounding a fifth. The blast also wounded three local passersby.

The correspondent reported that US occupation troops closed off the area and began a wave of raids in the area, bursting into a mosque among other places, but finding nothing.

US helicopters flew around over the city and dropped printed leaflets addressed to the local people, threatening them with “hard days ahead” if they do not inform on the Resistance and where the fighters are located.

Babil Province.

Al-Latifiyah.

Three US troops killed in early afternoon bombing in al-Latifiyah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a passing column of four US Bradley armored vehicles and two Humvees in al-Latifiyah, south of Baghdad, at about 12:30pm Saturday afternoon. A source in the Iraqi puppet police who asked that his name not be used out of fear of retaliation by the US troops, he said, told Mafkarat al-Islam that a large-sized bomb blew up as the US column was passing, destroying one Bradley and killing four US troops aboard it and wounding three more.

Al-Yusufiyah.

Resistance bomb kills three US troops.

In a dispatch posted at 7:55pm Saturday night Mecca time, the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Yusufiyah reported that an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded next to a US military column in al-Yusufiyah, destroying one Humvee and killing three American soldiers and severely wounding a fourth. The correspondent reported local residents who witnessed the attack as saying that the fourth soldier remained breathing with his eyes open after the attack but without moving.

A source in the Iraqi puppet police who arrived on the scene and spoke to the correspondent confirmed that three Americans had been killed in the attack and one more wounded. US forces at the time of reporting were surrounding the area and had called in a helicopter to haul away the dead and wounded.

At-Ta’mim Province.

Kirkuk.

Nineteen Americans reported killed in deadly bombardment of US base in Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 11:05am Saturday morning Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired four Grad rockets and three mortar rounds into Kirkuk International Airport, which is occupied and used by the American invaders as a local headquarters, at 6am Saturday morning. The bombardment targeted specifically northern parts of the airport only, where the runways for US fighter planes are located.

An informed source inside the airport who asked to remain anonymous (because of US threats not to leak information to the press) told Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack killed 19 US troops and destroyed one F-16 fighter bomber that was parked on the runway. He said that fires were still burning.

Witnesses confirmed to the correspondent that the bombardment was followed by a powerful explosion that shook the whole city. The correspondent himself saw dense smoke billowing up from the airport.

Ninwa Province.

Mosul.

Martyrdom fighter warns witnesses “get away so you won’t be hurt by the explosion!” then blasts into US checkpoint killing six American troops.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US checkpoint east of the city of Mosul at about 10:30am Saturday morning, killing six US troops and wounding seven more to varying degrees.

Witnesses whose cars were parked near the scene of the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter in a white pickup was among the vehicles stopped and waiting their turn at the checkpoint. Suddenly he broke out of the line and drove at very high speed straight for the checkpoint.

They said that because he apparently jumped the line, “we yelled warnings at him, but he only looked at us and said, ‘get away from here fast so you won’t be hurt by the explosion!’ At that point we knew he was a martyrdom fighter and we got out of our cars and ran a long way away and threw ourselves to the ground as he slammed into the checkpoint and blew himself and his car up.”

The witnesses described the explosion as “huge,” saying that body parts of the dead American soldiers landed near where they were lying on the ground, despite the fact that they had run as far as they could away from the checkpoint.

A member of the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” who was on duty near the blast site told Mafkarat al-Islam that six US troops were killed and seven more wounded to varying degrees.

The correspondent himself saw American military ambulances near the scene of the attack, evacuating the bodies of the dead and wounded Americans and taking them to the main US al-Ghazlani base in the city. US forces meanwhile hauled away what was left of the equipment from the checkpoint, getting rid of the station. Nothing remained of the checkpoint thereafter other than the concrete barriers that the explosion had blown to pieces.

Al-Basrah Province.

Camp Bucca.

Great escape reported from US Prison Camp Bucca.

In a dispatch posted at 5:10pm Saturday afternoon Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a source in the Iraqi puppet army had reported that American forces discovered a tunnel leading out of US prison camp Bucca near the town of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. Camp Bucca is the second largest American prison camp in Iraq, after the notorious Abu Ghurayb camp west of Baghdad.

The correspondent reported a lieutenant colonel in the Iraqi puppet army as saying that the Americans on Saturday found a tunnel, hundreds of meters long and 1.25 meters in diameter, dug by prisoners in Camp Bucca. The tunnel linked the inside of the prison with the outside world. The source said that a large number of prisoners were able to escape through the tunnel to freedom.

US and British forces are now conducting a general count of the prisoners to find out how many were able to get out of their clutches through the tunnel.

The source added that the Americans noticed the tunnel when they observed that the feet of some prisoners were covered in mud and earth, and when they observed that they obviously looked like they had spent the night hard at work doing something. The Americans also noticed that the shower drains were filling up with clay every day from the feet of prisoners coming in to shower or make their ablutions for prayer.

The source said that US forces continued to observe the prisoners and their movements until they found the opening of the tunnel under a pile of rubble behind some solitary confinement cells in the prison.

The source said that the prisoners were digging during their rest periods, when the US troops would allow them to go out for free time in the open square of the prison camp. The Americans discovered the tools used by the prisoners to dig the tunnel, such as tent poles and stakes, water pails, and empty containers. These were used to put the soil aside.

The source said that it was not unlikely that a large number of prisoners had escaped from the facility, particularly after they discovered the tunnel ended some 100 meters outside the prison.

US forces officially acknowledged that they had discovered a tunnel in Camp Bucca, but claimed that they had found the project before any of the prisoners had used it to escape. Lieutenant Colonel Guy Rudisill, spokesman for US-run prison camps in Iraq, told Reuters that the Americans had found the tunnel before any prisoner had been able to escape through it. The Americans claimed that they found the tunnel after a military policeman during routine searches last week found an opening five feet long that was perhaps the opening of a third tunnel and reported it to officials. Searches after that revealed two other tunnels, the American mouthpiece claimed.

Rudisill said that the first tunnel began under floor boards in a sitting room in the middle of a group of cells housing between 25 and 30 prisoners. It had been concealed under rubbish and was invisible to the US guards who passed by.

Rudisill said that the Americans had no idea how long the prisoners had been at work on the tunnels, but said that the earth in the two tunnels was relatively soft, meaning that it was fairly easy for them to dig. He said that the dirt from the tunnels was distributed around the dirt in the camp and thrown in the latrines. He said that more inspections were under way to make sure that there were no more tunnels anywhere in the camp, which holds a reported two-thirds of all the prisoners in the custody of the US-led invader forces. Rudisill said that so far the commanders in the camp had not decided what disciplinary actions to take against the prisoners who tried to escape.
