An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a US military column in the middle of al-Hadithah at about 8:30am Sunday morning and blew himself and his car up. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast, in the ash-Shurtah neighborhood in the west of the city, killed 11 US troops immediately and seriously wounded three more.

The deputy chief of puppet police in al-Hadithah told Mafkarat al-Islam that the car bomb exploded by a US column at 8:30am and he confirmed the figures of 11 Americans killed and three more injured, adding that the blast destroyed three American Humvees.

Witnesses to the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the US column had halted near a secondary school when the Resistance fighter attacked. They said that the martyrdom fighter in his car had been parked at the end of the street waiting for the American column. They said before the attack, the driver, who was carrying a copy of the Qur’an in his pocke, got out of his car and offered a two-rak‘ah Muslim prayer. They said he read a bit from the Qur’an before starting the car and speeding into the American troops.

An ambulance medic working for the city hospital confirmed the story and added that they found the body of the martyrdom fighter some distance away from the blast scene, heavily injured. He was identified and it was learned that he was a local Iraqi native of the city of al-Hadithah, according to witnesses.

All those arrested were religious individuals who frequented the Sunni mosques in the area and did preaching among the population. One of those arrested was Shaykh Mus‘ab al-‘Aqrab.

The puppet “national guard” forces in southern Iraq are in fact members of the Shi‘i chauvinist Badr Brigades, the armed wing of the collaborationist so-called “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq” (SCIRI) that invaded Iraq in tandem with US forces in spring 2003. Badr Brigade gunmen have been carrying out systematic assassinations of Sunni leaders in Iraq as part of a sectarian effort to spark confessionalist fighting between the country’s different religious and ethnic groups in the hopes that this would weaken the advance of the Iraqi Resistance.
