Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 3 April 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Sunday, 3 April 2005.

Al-Anbar.
Ar-Ramadi.

Combat in downtown ar-Ramadi leaves six American troops dead Sunday morning.

Fighting broke out between Iraqi Resistance forces and US troops near the provincial government offices in central ar-Ramadi on Sunday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported witnesses who runs shops across from the government building as saying that perhaps nine Iraqi Resistance fighters battled US troops on the main street in the city ミ on which the al-Anbar Provincial government building is located ミ at 10am Sunday morning local time.

The witnesses reported that the Resistance fighters used various weapons in the fighting and were able to destroy one Humvee and disable a second. Six American troops were killed and five more wounded.

Al-Fallujah.

Direct hit by Resistance rocket on US headquarters in al-Fallujah leaves reported nine American troops dead Saturday night.

A massive explosion shook the governorate building in al-Fallujah, used by the American occupation forces as a headquarters, at 6pm Saturday evening. A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast was caused by a direct hit by an Iraqi Resistance missile on the building.

The source said that the blast killed nine US troops and 13 Iraqi puppet soldiers, and other bodies might still be under the rubble, he indicated.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who went to the scene of the attack, said that the destruction of the rocket was clearly visible on the building. The missile obviously blasted through the roof and penetrated to the lowest story of the building, bringing the
roof down on the Americans and their puppet troops inside the building.

Al-Qa’im.

Resistance bombards US base Sunday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US camp known as A22 in the city of al-Qa’im on the Iraqi-Syrian border with four Grad rockets at 4pm Sunday afternoon, local time. Local witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the rocket barrage set of a powerful explosion within the camp that was easily heard by all those living in the western suburbs of al-Qa’im.

A source in the local puppet police confirmed that four Grad rockets had blasted into the American-occupied facility. He said that the missiles destroyed one of the buildings in the camp that contained fuel storage tanks, causing the massive explosion.

Baghdad.

Resistance commander: 18 Americans killed in assault on Abu Ghurayb prison Saturday night.

A commander in the Iraqi Resistance told Mafkarat al-Islam that the battles that took place on Saturday night between Resistance forces and US occupation troops by the Abu Ghurayb prison camp, and about which the international media reported, left 18 Americans dead and 10 more wounded.

The US military on Sunday morning issued a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Guy Rudisill who claimed that the fighting had left 44 injured ミ up from claims the same military mouthpiece made on Saturday when he spoke of 20 American troops wounded.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reports, however, that fighting took place between the Resistance and US Marines when the Resistance attempted to storm Abu Ghurayb prison camp from the north.

Shaykh Abu ‘Ubaydah, an Iraqi Resistance commander, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack took place at 8pm Saturday night. Resistance fighters attacked the prison camp from the north, he said, under the heavy cover of a Resistance barrage of Grad and Katyusha rockets and mortar rounds aimed at numerous different targets. The aim was to open several fronts against the occupation forces, he explained.

Commander Abu ‘Ubaydah said that the attack left 18 US Marines dead and more than 10 others wounded. The Resistance also destroyed the northern observation tower of the prison camp and opened three holes in the outer fences of the prison, through which it was hoped that the Resistance fighters could storm in to liberate women prisoners.

“But our attack failed this time,’ Abu ‘Ubaydah said, “because of the fast intervention of helicopters. We had figured that they could not reach the battlefield in less than a quarter of an hour and that would be enough for us to get into the prison and battle the Marines where [in close combat, the helicopters] would not be able to bombard us.”

Abu ‘Ubaydah, went on: “Such was God’s will, praise be to Him, but anyway we were able to kill a lot of them. All of us returned to our positions safely, other than four men who were wounded but who, God willing, are going to be fine.”

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces encircled the whole area after the battle, bringing in vehicles to haul away the bodies of their dead and evacuate their wounded. Other vehicles closed the gaps made by the Resistance attack in the fences around the prison camp.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent was unable to obtain detailed information about the effect of the rocket and mortar barrage on the prison, which holds more than 5,000 Iraqi men and women prisoners.

Resistance bomb kills three US troops in al-Ghazaliyah midday Sunday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-Ghazaliyah neighborhood, weset of Baghdad. A source in the local traffic force who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb was targeted on a US patrol made up of four Humvees that was proceeding down the main street in al-Ghazaliyah. The blast destroyed one of the Humvees and killed three troops who were aboard it, wounding two more.

After the blast, which occurred at 12 noon Baghdad time, US forces closed off the area and prevented journalists from approaching the scene.

Four American troops killed by Resistance bomb in at-Taji.

In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded in the middle of at-Taji, about 30km north of Baghdad. Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in at-Taji that Resistance fighters planted the bomb next to a sewer opening on the side of the road leading to at-Taji Secondary School. The blast killed four US troops and wounded two more, one of them seriously.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army also told Mafkarat al-Islam that the explosion totally destroyed one Humvee and killed four American troops and wounded two more.

US pursues sectarian divide-and-rule as confessionalist sectarianism forms basis for new puppet so-called “government” in Baghdad.

As a further step along the road of sectarian partition of Iraq, the puppet “parliament” in Iraq on Sunday named a Sunni Arab, Hajim al-Husayni ミ hitherto puppet so-called “minister of industry” ミ to the largely ceremonial post of speaker of the parliament.

In keeping with the colonial sectarian divide-and-rule strategy employed by imperialist powers in the region, the “parliamentary agreement” provides for the Kurdish chauvinist leader Jalal Talibani to be named puppet “president of Iraq,” while the Shi‘i chauvinist Da‘wah Party leader Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari is to be named “prime minister.”

Since its invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003, US policy has focused on exacerbating sectarian differences in the country as many of Washington’s strategists and planners envisioned the splitting up of Iraq into three separate and feuding states. The sectarian arrangement of posts in the new puppet “government” fully conforms to that strategy.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.

Iraqi woman martyrdom fighter kills 12 US troops in attack near Tikrit Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi woman between the ages of 25 and 30 pushing a baby carriage approached a group of US soldiers who were standing in front of the door of a local school in the village of Hawmah, northwest of the city of Tikrit. The school day was finished at the time and the American troops were there to distribute “wanted” posters in their on-going effort to entrap Resistance fighters.

Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that when the woman was in the middle of the group of American troops she detonated the baby carriage ミ which was packed completely full with explosives ミ killing 12 US troops and wounding several more. The force of the blast blew some of the American troops over the wall and into the schoolyard.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who rushed to the scene of the attack, reported that he saw the bodies of the Americans strewn about the sidewalk and the street. Numerous wounded soldiers were also lying around the area.

The Hawmah Hospital confirmed to the correspondent that the attack was carried out by an Iraqi woman martyrdom fighter whose lacerated body was found near the scene.

A previously unknown Resistance organization called the Islamic Squadrons for the Liberation of Iraq took responsibility for the martyrdom attack in a statement made by one of its members to the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam. The spokesman confirmed that the attack was carried out by one of the women fighters against the Americans. The spokesman noted that the brother of the martyred woman was the one who booby-trapped the baby carriage for her.

At-Tarimiyah.

Resistance car bomb kills seven US troops in at-Tarimiyah late Sunday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove a red Opel car into a column of US military vehicles in at-Tarimiyah, north of Baghdad at 5pm Sunday afternoon local time. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed an American Zil personnel carrier, killing seven soldiers, all of whom had been aboard the transport.

A source in the Iraqi puppet so-called “national guard” told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans who were killed in the attack belonged to a detachment called “Violent engagements” and that they had just come into the area from Baghdad.

Ninwa Province.
Mosul.

Resistance martyrdom attack kills general commander of Iraqi puppet forces in Mosul Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 1:15pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, Iraqi Resistance forces had liquidated the General Commander of the Iraqi puppet army in the city of Mosul. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom operation targeted the motorcade carrying the commander when it was proceeding through the al-Qayyarah area, about 50km north of Mosul.

The correspondent reported a source in the Iraqi puppet army as saying that an attack by an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter in a car bomb had killed Major General Hasan Zadah along with seven other puppet officers and aides.

Resistance martyrdom car bombing kills eight US troops in Mosul midday Sunday.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives laden car into US troops in the al-Yarmuk neighborhood of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul at 1pm local time Sunday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city, who arrived on the scene shortly after the attack, reported seeing the burning hulk of a wrecked US vehicle and the bodies of four dead American troops strewn about on the ground nearby.

US forces then encircled the area and extracted four more charred bodies of US troops from inside the vehicle. Two helicopters landed and carried away all the corpses.

The Resistance organization al-Qa‘idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, led by the Jordanian Abu Mus‘ab az-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement distributed around a number of local mosques.

Second Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blows up car bomb killing nine US troops Sunday afternoon.

In a report posted at 7pm Sunday night Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a second Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter had driven a Kia car full of explosives into a US military column in the al-Islah az-Zira‘i neighborhood of Mosul at 3pm Sunday afternoon local time. It was the second such operation in the city Sunday afternoon.

The American column was halted at the time of the attack near the Mosul Electric Department. The blast destroyed two Humvees and killed nine US troops and wounded five more.

Witnesses told Mafakrat al-Islam that the martyrdom fighter’s car raced at high speed into the US column, surprising the American troops when it burst out of a side street near the Electric Department and into the troops standing in front of the main gate of the building.

The witnesses said that the car was able drive into the Americans despite the fact that they opened fire on the approaching car as it raced towards them. The Americans were surprised by the attack, however, and it therefore took them several moments before they began to shoot at the oncoming car.

The Resistance organization al-Qa‘idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, led by the Jordanian Abu Mus‘ab az-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement distributed at a local mosque.
