2月14日付、「Adnkronos Int'l」によると、「ホロコースト国際漫画コンテスト」を主催しているイランの有力日刊紙「Hamshari」の編集者(Mohammed-Reza Zarei氏）は、デンマークの新聞社に対し、このコンテストへ招待する旨を明らかにしたとの事。
モハメッドの風刺漫画を掲載した「the Jyllands-Posten」紙に対しても、参加するよう呼びかけた。
この編集者は、「国際的な論議を尊重しており、挑戦的な気持ちから言っているのではない。もしホロコーストの存在が証明されたなら、我々もそれに従うつもりである」といっている。
CARTOON CRISIS: DANISH MEDIA INVITED TO 'HOLOCAUST' CONTEST
Tehran, 14 Feb. (AKI) - The editor of Iran's best-selling daily, Hamshari, has invited Danish papers to participate in the international contest he is promoting for the best cartoons satirising the Holocaust. Mohammed-Reza Zarei launched the proposal a few days ago in response to the publication in the European media of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. "The Danish newspaper which insulted our Prophet [the Jyllands-Posten] can take part in the contest along with other Danish dailies" he said.
The editor said the purpose of the initiative was to establish the truth about the Holocaust.
"We respect the international public opinion and don't mean to challenge anyone," Zarei said. "If the Holocaust can be proven, I too will start defending its existence."
Hamshahri announced on 7 February it would be running an international cartoon competition on the topic of the Holocaust, open to cartoonists worldwide.
Iran's conservative rulers are supportive of so-called Holocaust revisionist historians, who argue that the extermination of six million Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II has been exaggerated for political ends.
