Al-Anbar Province.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance ambush obliterates US convoy near ar-Ramadi early Thursday killing 20; mericans retaliate, killing seven Iraqi civilians, two Resistance fighters.

A large-scale battle took place between Iraqi Resistance forces and US occupation troops in the al-Mulahimah area east of ar-Ramadi when a convoy of US trucks loaded with supplies for the US troops passed by on its way to the al-Habbaniyah base at 7am Thursday morning. The combat lasted for a full hour.

Residents of al-Mulahimah told Mafkarat al-Islam that more than 50 Resistance fighters attacked the column of nine trucks carrying provisions and commodities for the US military and three four-wheel drive vehicles that were providing armed escort for the trucks. The Resistance attackers set all the trucks and two of the four-wheel drive vehicles ablaze, killing 20 drivers who were working for the US occupation.

After the attack, US forces encircled the al-Mulahimah area and American Apache helicopters rocketed several residential houses in the area, killing seven Iraqi civilians and two Resistance fighters.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance sharpshooter kills US soldier Thursday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed an American soldier in the al-Jawlan neighborhood of al-Fallujah at about 5pm local time Thursday afternoon. Residents of al-Jawlan told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Iraqi sharpshooter gunned down the American as he was standing with other members of a joint US-Iraqi puppet foot patrol in their neighborhood.

After the attack, US troops surrounded the area and searched houses looking for the Resistance fighter, but found nothing.

Resistance bomb kills four US troops in as-Saqlawiyah Thursday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US armored column in as-Saqlawiyah village, north of al-Fallujah at 8am Thursday morning local time. Owners of gardens in as-Saqlawiyah who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb was planted on a farm road in the village and that it blew up under one of the American armored vehicles in a column that consisted of four such vehicles and two Humvees. The explosion set that one armored vehicle on fire, killing four American troops and wounding two more.

Baghdad.

Resistance bomb targets US patrol near Abu Ghurayb Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 5pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-Bu Munaysir village, west of Abu Ghurayb. Owners of groves in the village told Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb had been planted on the road leading to Abu Ghurayb and that it went off the moment the US patrol of four Humvees went past. The blast destroyed one Humvee, killing two US troops and wounding three others.

Resistance forces seize control of section of Baghdad for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

A group of Iraqi Resistance fighters of the Squadrons of the Mujahideen organization on Wednesday afternoon succeeded in seizing control of parts of al-‘Amiriyah, the ash-Shurtah tunnel, and areas nearby ミ all in the southwestern part of Baghdad ミ for several hours after inflicting heavy casualties on puppet police and puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” in battles in the area. After the clashes, the puppet forces fled, enabling the Resistance fighters to seize control of the areas.

Sources close to the Iraqi Resistance told QudsPress that the puppet security forces fled from the Resistance attackers leaving their weapons behind.

The Squadrons of the Mujahideen seized the streets of the area after the puppet forces ran away, but then the Resistance fighters withdrew when a massive force of US troops backed by helicopters attacked the area, QudsPress reported. The Resistance withdrawal, unlike the flight of the puppet troops, was orderly and none of the Squadrons of the Mujahideen was killed or wounded. The Resistance sources indicated that the incident was a show of strength on the part of the Resistance; a demonstration that they can take any area they wish to.

The attack seemed to contradict puppet regime spokesmen who have been claiming that the Iraqi Resistance has been fleeing Baghdad as a result of the so-called “Operation Lightning” which seems to be designed more to stir up sectarian strife than to actually attack Resistance forces.

Upholding legal niceties: Kofi Annan says US occupation of Iraq is “legal,” but US detention of Iraqi prisoners is “violation of international law.”

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said on Wednesday that the detention of thousands of people in Iraq by the US occupation forces without due process remains a major human rights challenge in that country. “It is an apparent violation of international law,” Annan said in a report presented to the UN Security Council, according to a report carried by China’s Xinhua News Agency.

Quoting data from the Iraqi puppet so-called “ministry of justice,” the report said 6,000 of 10,000 Iraqis officially being held prisoner as of April are in the hands of the US and other satellite occupation forces.

“Despite the release of some detainees, their number continues to grow,” the report said.
“Prolonged detention without access to lawyers and courts is prohibited under international law including during states of emergency,” the UN Secretary-General’s report said, noting that one of the major human rights challenges in Iraq remains the detention of thousands of persons without due process.

Analysts said that although Resolution 1546 adopted by the Security Council on Wednesday provided legalistic cover for the continued US occupation of Iraq, the US military lost its “legal right” to keep holding prisoners after the farcical “handover of power” to the Iraqis effected a year ago. Legal analysts cited by Xinhua said that after the formal “hand over of authority” continued detention by US forces would be an apparent violation of the Geneva Convention.

Two US trucks caught fire and three American soldiers were killed and one more wounded. The correspondent reported that one Resistance fighter was wounded in the attack.
