Al-Anbar Province
Al-Qa’im

Fierce fighting rages throughout the day Friday as US launches offensive on suburbs of al-Qa’im only to meet savage urban guerrilla resistance.

In a dispatch posted at 5:55pm Friday afternoon, Mecca time Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces launched a new offensive against the city of al-Qa’im on the Iraqi-Syrian border on Friday morning, focusing on the areas of ar-Rummanah and al-Karabilah. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that more than 1,000 US troops backed up by dozens of American military vehicles and under a dense cloud of US warplanes and helicopters providing air cover stormed the areas of al-Karabilah and ar-Rummanah in the al-Qa’im area at 6am Friday morning local time.

The American attack met with no significant initial resistance on the outskirts of either district, but once the US forces got into the towns, they ran into fierce Resistance defenders. The Resistance apparently decided to draw the enemy into the narrow lanes and alleys of the town where they could overwhelm them, the correspondent in al-Qa’im reported.

A source in the Iraqi puppet military, which took part in the offensive alongside their American masters, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance was able to destroy four US Humvees and six American tanks, in addition to shooting down one Apache helicopter. The source said that more than 34 Iraqi puppet soldiers were killed or wounded in the fighting that was still going on at the time of writing Friday afternoon, though on a less intense level than prevailed in the first hours of battle. The same source estimated American loses to be “dozens” of dead or wounded casualties.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that in the course of the battle, the American troops had stormed into the two areas but now found themselves in a difficult position. “Everything is booby trapped and ready to explode in their faces,” the correspondent reported. Several telephone booths blew up among groups of US invader troops as they stormed into the city. Electricity poles collapsed when bombs planted under them exploded. Six car bombs blew up in just the first 15 minutes of fighting after the Americans got into the two areas.

Five Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighters drove explosives-packed cars into groups of American soldiers according to statements by Ahmad al-Maksusi, an officer in the Iraqi puppet army, who said that American losses as of noon were in the dozens.

The correspondent denied a report carried by a well-known Arab satellite TV network working in Iraq, which claimed that Iraqi Resistance fighters had fled from the fighting in ar-Rummanah and al-Karabilah. On the contrary, the correspondent noted, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi puppet army, Babikr Zibari on Friday requested permission from the puppet so-called “prime minister” of the Iraqi regime, Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari, to withdraw the Iraqi puppet troops from the battle, saying that his men were not yet up to fighting real battles in al-Anbar Province against the Resistance. Zibari requested that US Marines be sent in to replace his men, in a request indicating that the fighting in the area of al-Qa’im was far from over.

Mafkarat al-Islam pledged that its correspondents in the area would continue to cover the American offensive, which they have dubbed Operation Spear.

US air raid kills seven Iraqi civilians in al-Qa’im.

In a dispatch posted at 12:33pm Mecca time, the Saudi News Agency WAS reported that US aircraft had carried out an intensive attack on residential neighborhoods in the area of al-Karabilah near town of al-Qa’im on the border with Syria on Friday. The official Saudi news agency made no reference to the major battle underway in the area around al-Qa’im, except to say that the US air strikes followed “clashes” between Iraqi Resistance forces and with American occupation troops.

According to local hospital sources quoted by WAS, the brutal American air raid killed seven civilians, including a woman and child, and wounded 10 others, one of them a child. The air raids also severely damaged residential apartments in the neighborhood. Reuters later reported Dr. Hamdi al-Alusi of al-Qa’im Hospital as saying that six bodies, one of them a woman, had been brought to the hospital after heavy American bombing.

Reuters picks up story of US attack on region around al-Qa’im after Mafkarat al-Islam breaks the story. Religious leader in al-Qa’im calls for general strike to protest US offensive.

Several hours after Mafkarat al-Islam broke the story of the fighting in the area of al-Qa’im, Reuters began to report on the battles there, saying that American F-16 fighter bombers had dropped 220km bombs on what it claimed were Resistance targets. The British news agency quoted US military sources as saying that the Americans had dropped nine of such massive bombs, two of them on houses they claimed served as havens for the Resistance fighters in the area of al-Qa’im along the Euphrates.

Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, said that US forces claimed that they had dropped four more of the huge bombs on Resistance positions where mortars and assault weapons were being fired against the US invaders near al-Qa’im. Three other bombs were supposedly used to blow up weapons caches, Reuters dutifully reported the American military as saying.

For his part, Muzaffar al-‘Ani, a leader in the al-Qa’im branch of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars, the highest Sunni Muslim religious authority in occupied Iraq, called for shops and stores to remain closed and for residents to remain in their homes following Friday congregational prayers in protest against the US aggression which he affirmed was endangering the civilian population. The religious leader said that the Americans were escalating tension and that he would announce a call for a general strike after the midday prayers Friday.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance ambushes US troops north of ar-Ramadi early Friday.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a US military patrol in the as-Sufiyah area north of ar-Ramadi in western Iraq at about 7am Friday morning, local time. Residents of the area who witnessed the fighting told Mafkarat al-Islam that about 20 Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons, including RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades, and C5K pipe rockets, ambushed a patrol of four armored vehicles and sis Humvees in the as-Sufiyah area.

The fighters clashed with the Americans for about 20 minutes, destroying two Humvees, and disabling one armored vehicle. Eight US soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the battle. One Resistance fighter was martyred and another wounded in the combat, the witnesses said. They noted that US forces responded to the attack by randomly shooting at Iraqi civilians too and that two were gunned down and killed by the indiscriminate American fire.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance car destroys US Humvee, puppet pickup in al-Fallujah Friday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a joint patrol of US and Iraqi puppet forces at the al-Utabba’ Street crossing in downtown al-Fallujah at 5:30pm local time Friday afternoon. Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city that the car bomb had been parked by the side of the road and that it blew up when the US-Iraqi puppet patrol made up of two US Humvees and four Iraqi puppet force pickups went by. The blast destroyed one Humvee and one pickup, killing and wounding a number of US and Iraqi puppet troops. American forces quickly closed off the area and prevented local residents and journalists from approaching, making it impossible for the correspondent to assess the number of US and puppet casualties.

Resistance bomb blasts US Humvee west of al-Fallujah Friday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded on the al-Bu ‘Alwan Bridge in the al-Halabisah area 2km west of al-Fallujah at about 10am Friday morning, local time. Residents of the village of al-Halabisah told Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb had been planted at the entrance to the bridge on the road to ar-Ramadi, west of al-Fallujah. It exploded when a patrol of five Humvees was passing and destroyed one of the vehicles, killing two American soldiers and wounding four more.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance bombards US al-Habbaniyah base Friday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces mounted a mortar barrage on the US base in the city of al-Habbaniyah, 85km west of Baghdad at 7am local time Friday morning. Residents of the village of al-Fallahat, north of the US base told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Habbaniyah that six violent explosions shook the American base when six Resistance mortar shells crashed into the US-occupied facility. The witnesses reported that the barrage sent plumes of smoke rising over the base.

Baghdad.

Resistance force ambushes convoy of US profiteers in ad-Durah Friday afternoon killing five.

Iraqi Resistance fighters in the al-Mikanik neighborhood of the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah attacked a column of four-wheel drive vehicles belonging to American mercenary force “security companies” that guard US profiteer “contractors” and American officials in Iraq. Witnesses told the local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons, including RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades and hand grenades, attacked the column of six armored four-wheel drive vehicles at 5pm local time Friday afternoon. Two of the vehicles burst into flame, killing five of the mercenary guards and American profiteers.

Resistance bomb explodes under US column on Khan Darri bridge Firday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 11am Friday Morning Mecca time, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Khan Darri, 30km west of Baghdad, reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb had exploded by the Khan Darri Bridge, that brings together the highway and the old road leading to Baghdad, at 10:45am local time Friday morning. The blast, which the correspondent himself also survived, occurred as the American patrol was halted on the bridge. One Humvee was destroyed, killing at least three American soldiers and wounding two more. After the explosion the Americans surrounded the area and closed the main road leading to Baghdad. Two Apache helicopters were summoned and flew in over the area where the blast occurred.

Martyrdom fighter detonates car bomb near home of puppet commander.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blew up an explosives-packed car near the home of a commander of one of the regiments of the Iraqi puppet army in the town of at-Tuz, north of Baghdad, the Saudi Arabian News Agency WAS reported in a dispatch posted at 10:07am Mecca time Friday morning. A source in the puppet army told WAS that the car bomb exploded near the home of Lieutenant Colonel Safa’ Walid Shukr. The blast wounded three soldiers who were guarding the commander’s house, one of whom was the lieutenant colonel’s brother. Three other persons were also injured in the blast, which killed the Resistance attacker.

No Baghdad International Trade Fair to be held this year because of insecurity.

The puppet so-called “Iraqi ministry of trade” has decided not to hold the 36th annual Baghdad International Trade Fair, which was scheduled to open in November this year. The puppet “general director of the public company for Iraqi trade fairs,” which belongs to the “ministry of trade” announced that the “ministry” had decided to suspend the fair because preparations were incomplete, sufficient money had not been set aside to hold it, the security situation was unstable, and Arab and international companies were afraid to take part in the fair due to the security risk.

QudsPress reported Thursday that the “general director” said however that his “company” was working with trade fair establishments in the largely Kurdish northern part of Iraq where some sort of regional Kurdistan trade exhibitions might be held. The puppet official said that they are in constant communication with the puppet “agent” of the so-called “finance ministry for economic affairs” of the separatist region, with a view to organizing some exhibition in Kurdistan.

QudsPress noted that the last annual International Baghdad Trade Fair, the 35th, was held in the year 2002, prior to the US invasion of Iraq. The 36th Fair was slated to open in 2003, but was cancelled due to the situation in the country and to the fact that the trade fair management buildings and other facilities had been totally wrecked in the aftermath of the US invasion and the arson, looting, and plunder that the American presence precipitated. No Baghdad trade fair has been held since the US occupation.

Resistance martyrdom attacker blows up explosive car by puppet police convoy, setting fuel tank truck ablaze.

According to the website of the American newspaper The Washington Post, an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blew up a black explosives-laden Daewoo car by a passing puppet police convoy in Baghdad early Friday afternoon. The blast, which the paper said occurred 50 yards (about 50 meters) from a mosque, set a fuel tanker ablaze and killed four persons.

The Iraqi puppet police tried to suggest that the target of the Resistance fighter was a nearby Shi‘i mosque, a slant that the Saudi News Agency WAS reflected in its dispatch posted at 2:07pm Friday afternoon Mecca time, saying that a Resistance fighter blew up an explosives-laden car in front of a mosque in the southeastern part of the occupied Iraqi capital. WAS quoted the Iraqi puppet police as saying that the car bomb exploded outside a mosque after Friday congregational prayers, killing and wounding a number of people.

For its part, a source in the puppet so-called “Iraqi interior ministry” told WAS that the car bomb blew up in front of a mosque in the al-Kamaliyah area of southeastern Baghdad, adding that there was no immediate information on casualties.

Random bomb explodes in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 12:33pm Mecca time Friday, the Saudi News Agency WAS quoted a source in the Iraqi puppet security forces as saying that a bomb exploded at the opening to a tunnel in the al-Bab ash-Sharqi part of Baghdad. US helicopters came in at low altitudes over the base and nearby areas looking for the Resistance attackers but found nothing.
