Nine coalition troops killed in Fallujah

Nine troops from the U.S.-led multinational forces were killed Saturday in a mortar attack in the troubled city of Fallujah west of the capital.
Coalition officials said in a statement that six soldiers also were injured in the attack in Fallujah, 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Baghdad, but did not identify the nationalities of the casualties.
Meanwhile, Iraqi police officials said three mortar rounds fell near the Babel Hotel in the center of the capital where American military and civilian elements reside, as well as Iraqi officials.
They did not report any casualties in the attack.
The police also said that overnight fighting and early Saturday killed ten people, including a woman, and around 12 were injured in separate armed attacks and car bombings in different parts of the country.
The casualties included Iraqi civilians, troops and policemen.
The interior and defense ministries said their forces have arrested suspected terrorists in the past two days, seized large amounts of weapons and defused bombs as part of Operation Lightning launched two weeks ago.
