Al-Anbar Province.

Rawah.

Bombed, blockaded city of Rawah appeals to world for humanitarian assistance.

Residents of the city of Rawah in western Iraq sent a message to human rights organizations about US attacks being carried out on their city backed up by Iraqi puppet forces.

The message, a copy of which was obtained by a correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, said that “since Sunday 17 July US occupation forces and Iraqi puppet forces have been storming our city on the pretext of pursuing armed men, bringing life in the city to a halt and in fact killing and wounding a number of city residents and destroying several houses and commercial shops, and cutting off electricity. Their airforce has been bombing the city until now,” the message added.

After noon on Tuesday, 19 July, the American forces ordered the residents of Rawah to quit the city, forcing dozens of families to take to the roads, some leaving the city altogether and others gathering near the exits from Rawah. Still other people have remained in the city awaiting their fate until this morning, the message said.

Rawah Hospital has been suffering from a shortage of medicine and essential medical supplies for treating the wounded due to the military operations and the blockade that the Americans have imposed on the city. Rawah Hospital therefore has issued an appeal for help to the hospital in the nearby city of ‘Anah.

“In these tragic and deteriorating conditions,” the message said, “we call on everyone who respects the dignity of humanity and human freedoms ミ guaranteed by all religions and all earthly laws without distinction ミ to help this victimized city, to provide needed food, drinking water, medicines and medical equipment and all that is required to preserve the life and health of the population.”

The message continued, “And we call on the appropriate agencies world wide to raise the siege from our city and put an end to the military operations that are leaving nothing but destruction, ruin, death, displacement, and more violence behind them ミ as was the case with previous military assaults.”

Hit.

Resistance rockets US headquarters in Hit early Thursday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired six medium-range Katyusha rockets into the Youth Center in Hit, a facility now occupied by the US forces and used as one of their local headquarters, at about 2pm local time Thursday afternoon.

Residents of the al-‘Ummal neighborhood of the city told Mafkarat al-Islam that the American headquarters came under a “very violent rocket barrage,” destroying the rear parts of the Center and setting fire to most of the US-occupied facility.

After the attack, American forces surrounded the building and closed all roads leading towards the area. Special military Medevac helicopters were seen in the area transporting the dead and wounded from the stricken building.

With the area sealed off and American snipers posted on nearby buildings, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam was unable to obtain more precise information on the nature and extent of US casualties.

US admits: Resistance bomb kills US soldier in Hit.

The US military officially admitted that one American soldier died on Thursday of wounds received in an Iraqi Resistance bomb attack in Hit, al-Jazeera satellite TV reported. As usual the American forces failed to provide further details of the death.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance bombards US camp north of al-Fallujah Thursday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded a joint US-Iraqi puppet force camp at the northern entrance to the city of al-Fallujah in western Iraq with eight heavy 120mm mortar rounds at 10am local time Thursday morning.

Residents of the al-Jawlan neighborhood of northern al-Fallujah told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the barrage set large parts of the camp on fire, sending up plumes of smoke from various areas within the compound.

During the bombardment, US forces responded by opening fire indiscriminately on nearby houses, killing one little local six-year-old girl and wounding four other civilians, according to Dr. Haytham at-Tawwani of al-Fallujah General Hospital who spoke to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent. The Saudi Press Agency (WAS) reported the same incident, noting that the indiscriminate American gunfire set fire to the house in which the little girl was killed.

After the bombardment, witnesses reported, US helicopters flew in and landed to evacuate the dead and wounded from the joint US-Iraqi puppet encampment.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance bomb destroys US armored vehicle Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 11:25am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US column in the industrial zone of ar-Ramadi.

Witnesses who were in the area at the time of the blast told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb destroyed a Humvee that was part of a column of four such vehicles on patrol in the middle of ar-Ramadi’s industrial zone.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army confirmed to the correspondent that the attack occurred, but since the US forces had already closed the street where the attack occurred when the correspondent got there, he was unable to obtain information on the nature and extent of US casualties.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance pounds US as-Saqr Airbase in al-Habbaniyah early Thursday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired 18 mortar rounds into the main US base in al-Habbaniyah, the “as-Saqr Airbase”, west of Baghdad at about 8am local time Thursday morning.

Residents of al-Fallahat village adjacent to the airbase told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance fired the mortars intermittently over a period of about half an hour, setting off violent explosions inside the base followed by secondary blasts as US munitions began blowing up. Columns of smoke billowed into the sky over the American-occupied facility.

Swarms of Apache helicopters could be seen in the area searching for the Resistance fighters who blasted the base. In a dispatch posted at 10:15am Mecca time Thursday morning, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the US helicopters were still flying around at low altitude in the area around the base but never found any trace of the Resistance fighters.

Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance issues statement declaring US occupation forces responsible for campaign of attacks on civilians.

The various organizations taking part in the Iraqi Resistance issued a statement that was distributed around mosques in Baghdad on Thursday, declaring that they have nothing to do with attacks that target Iraqi civilians and accusing the occupation forces of mounting mortar attacks on homes and using car bombs to attack Iraqi civilians.

The statement, a copy of which was obtained by the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, said in part, “ . . . it is noteworthy that whenever attacks on the Jews and Crusaders grow more intense, they resort to the dirty methods and means to try to harm the Mujahideen and stop the raging torrent of attack after attack.”

The statement said, “You see them arresting women to pressure their relatives and to prevent them from taking part in the jihad. They blockade cities, cutting off vital necessities from the population and sabotaging the public services in them. Then afterwards they launch a massive campaign of raids, stuffing prisons with young and old and even with children.”
Another of their dirty practices against the jihad is when they shell houses with mortars and then accuse the Mujahideen of doing it. Another of their tricks is to plant bombs near schools and hospitals, after which an American “savior” comes along to “discover” the explosive and disarm it before it explodes, thereby “rescuing the Muslims.”

The statement went on to say, “their latest dirty trick is to blow up car bombs in public places like markets and crowded streets in an desperate attempt to sully the image of the jihad and the Mujahdieen, to send a message to the people claiming that “the Mujahideen don’t care about the blood of the Muslims,” and that “the number of Muslims they kill are many times more than the number of Crusaders they eliminate,” ミ the sort of thing that the information media directed by the Crusaders say, while not mentioning anything about the attacks in which many Crusaders and their stooges are killed by the Mujahideen.

The statement addressed the people of the Muslim world community, asking, “How is it possible for the tricks and deceptions of the infidels to fool anyone when God the Exalted has said in the Qur’an “They observe towards the Believer neither pact nor honor” Qur’an 9:10; and when Our Lord reproached them saying: “Oh People of the Scripture, why do you dress up the truth with falsehood and knowingly cover up the truth?” Qur’an: 3:71. The Resistance organizations said in their statement: “As a point of instruction we would like to ask, what would we gain by blowing up booby-trapped cars in public places? In fact, we tell you: look to who benefits from these bombings and you will see who is the criminal party.”

So that truth may not be dressed up with falsehood, we declare that we do not hold the blood of the Muslims to be so cheap, as do the Crusaders, that we would cause it to be shed in this way. This is particularly true since one of the important reasons for our declaration of the jihad is our desire to protect the blood of the Muslims. We remember the statement of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, in which he said: “The first thing that will be adjudicated among people on Judgement Day will be questions of bloodshed,” and his statement that, “A man is in good stead with his religion so long as he has not spilled blood illicitly.”

In their statement, the Resistance organizations proclaimed: “ Our enemies are the Crusaders and their helpers among the police, army, spies, and the Safavi Shi‘i chauvinist pro-Iranian apostate government, a government that we would continue to fight if it were not a lackey of foreigners, so how can we be expected to stop making war on it when it is the creature of the Crusaders and the servant of Jewry?”

In conclusion, the Resistance statement warned: “the Crusaders use foul means when they blow up cars, including placing bombs in the trunks of vehicles when they search them at check points and then detonating them by remote control at a time and place that they regard as appropriate for attain their foul aims. Their helicopters also rocket specific cars that they viciously and deceptively target with utmost skill, so as to make it look as if a martyrdom fighter had blown it up at that spot.”

Resistance fighters ambush, kill nephew of collaborator SCIRI chairman Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 11:47am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that four to six Iraqi Resistance fighters armed with machine guns and hand grenades attacked and killed Mudar ‘Abd as-Sattar al-Hakim, the nephew of the Chairman of the collaborationist Shi‘i chauvinist so-called “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq” (SCIRI) ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim on Thursday.

Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that six members of the Badr Brigade, the armed wing of SCIRI, who were guarding Mudar al-Hakim, were also killed in the Resistance attack, which took place in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah.

A captain in the Iraqi puppet police confirmed the death of Mudar al-Hakim and the six Badr Brigade gunmen who were accompanying him. US, puppet police, and Badr Brigade forces encircled the entire area where the attack took place, closing roads to the area afterwards. Witnesses confirmed that the Resistance fighters were able to withdraw from the area after carrying out their attack.

US testing new “non-lethal” microwave weapon to use on Iraqis.

In its issue dated 23 July 2005, the British magazine New Scientist reports that tests of a new “non-lethal” weapon that the Pentagon hopes to deploy in Iraq have raised serious concerns regarding radiation and burns.

The magazine reported that “volunteers taking part in tests of the Pentagon’s ‘less-lethal’ microwave weapon were banned from wearing glasses or contact lenses due to safety fears. The precautions raise concerns about how safe the Active Denial System (ADS) weapon would be if used in real crowd-control situations.”

The article by David Hambling in New Scientist reported: “the ADS fires a 95-gigahertz microwave beam, which is supposed to heat skin and to cause pain but no physical damage. Little information about its effects has been released, but details of tests in 2003 and 2004 were revealed after Edward Hammond, director of the US Sunshine Project - an organization campaigning against the use of biological and non-lethal weapons - requested them under the Freedom of Information Act.”

“The ADS weapon’s beam causes pain within 2 to 3 seconds and it becomes intolerable after less than 5 seconds. People’s reflex responses to the pain are expected to force them to move out of the beam before their skin can be burnt,” the article reported.

But during tests, the magazine reports, “experimenters banned glasses and contact lenses to prevent possible eye damage to the subjects, and in the second and third tests removed any metallic objects such as coins and keys to stop hot spots being created on the skin. They also checked the volunteers' clothes for certain seams, buttons and zips which might also cause hot spots.” Obviously it would not be practical to use such a weapon having first warned the target crowds to remove glasses and buttons.

In addition, as the magazine pointed out, controlling the amount of radiation received by targets in a crowd may not be difficult. New Scientist quoted Neil Davison, co-ordinator of the non-lethal weapons research project at the University of Bradford in the UK, as asking: “How do you ensure that the dose doesn’t cross the threshold for permanent damage?, and What happens if someone in a crowd is unable, for whatever reason, to move away from the beam? Does the weapon cut out to prevent overexposure?”

Despite these safety and radiation questions, the magazine noted that the US Department of Defense says that a vehicle-mounted version of the ADS called “Sheriff” could be in use in occupied Iraq in 2006. American Marines and police forces are said to be working on portable versions of the weapon and the US Air Force is constructing a system for attacking crowds from the air.

The men in the cars attacked the two Landrovers with light arms, including Kalashnikov assault rifles, and abducted two persons from the vehicles.

A source in the Iraqi puppet police told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the two persons abducted were the Algerian charg d’affaires and the Algerian diplomatic attach.

In a dispatch posted at 11:33am GMT Thursday morning, the Qatari News Agency (Qana) reported Dr. al-Khafaji as saying that “a large number of prisoners are not brought to court but are innocent and they spend a long time in prison without any decision or adjudication of their cases.”

In her statement to Qana, Dr. al-Khafaji admitted that 50 percent of the prisoners are innocent and that the “human rights committee” was dealing with measures taken by the US occupation forces that make visits to the prisoners in Camp Bucca difficult. She said, “we immediately addressed the United Nations and the puppet so-called Iraqi government to find out who gave the American forces the authority to oversee the prisons and to find out whether there is an agreement on the subject because we in the ‘national assembly” have know knowledge of these agreements nor of what the role of the puppet so-called “Iraqi justice mininstry” is in the matter.

Dr. al-Khafaji added that so long as Iraqi prisons are in the hands of the American forces, this will remain a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

The member of the puppet “national assembly” told Qana that “many of the relatives of prisoners complain that the names of their loved ones disappear from the lists when they go to the prisons to inquire about them. They can’t find their names, even though they really are in the prison. The reason for that,” she said, “is the way that information is recorded by the American side.”

US resumes arrests of female relatives of “suspects” despite objections of puppet “ministry.”

US troops occupying Iraq’s second-largest city of Mosul, in the north of the country, have issued commands permitting them to arrest Iraqi women if that will facilitate the apprehension of members of the Iraqi Resistance.

The Mosul correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported a colonel in the Iraqi puppet army, who asked to remain anonymous, as saying that the US forces had issued that order to the Marines in Mosul several days ago, telling them to arrest the mothers, sisters, and wives of members of the Resistance during searches in order to compel the Resistance fighters to turn themselves in to the US invaders.

The puppet colonel told Mafkarat al-Islam that the order will help them capture Resistance fighters, noting that the order only applies to female relatives of wanted men.

The source said that the Americans on Sunday took the sister of a commander in the Resistance organization Base Qa‘idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers, Abu al-Hasan, into custody and on Thursday a message from Abu al-Hasan reached them from an intermediary asking for a guarantee that if he surrenders himself, his sister would be released unharmed. The puppet colonel said that Abu al-Hasan in fact turned himself in and his sister was indeed released unharmed.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Mosul said that the American occupation forces had been using the measure of arresting female relatives of suspected Resistance fighters several months ago but then discontinued the practice after it met with protests from the puppet regime’s so-called “ministry of human rights.” Last Sunday the US forces re-instituted the practice once again, disregarding the puppet officials’ objections.

The source said that two days earlier four girls under 20 living in the Sumar neighborhood were arrested by US forces who left messages threatening to harm the girls if the relatives whom the Americans were looking for failed to surrender themselves to the invaders.
