Al-Hadithah.

Resistance attacks, destroys US observation point near al-Hadithah Thursday morning.

Iraqi Resistance forces destroyed an observation site used by the US occupation forces on the International Highway in the city of al-Hadithah in western Iraq at about 9am local time Thursday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from the edge of the area where the attack occurred that one source in the Iraqi puppet army and another source in the puppet “Highway Guards” said that 21 American troops were killed or wounded in the attack, which also totally destroyed the observation post.

The observation post consisted of a two-story building atop which was an eight-meter tower, according to members of the al-Bu Hayyat tribe who live in the area of the highway and witnessed the attack. They said that more than 15 Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked the observation post after first unleashing an intense bombardment on the position and the surrounding area that sowed confusion in the ranks of the Americans.

After the bombardment, Resistance fighters armed with shoulder-fired rocket launchers, and medium PKS machineguns attacked the observation post in an assault that lasted for nearly 45 minutes. US forces defended themselves fiercely, the witnesses recounted, wounding four of the Resistance fighters. But the power of the rockets that rained down on the position was too much for them, the witnesses said.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent had a close look at the almost totally wrecked American observation point after US forces had surrounded it. American troops arrived at the observation post about 15 minutes after the Resistance fighters had withdrawn from the scene.

For its part, an Iraqi Resistance detachment issued a communiqu, a copy of which was obtained by the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, in which it took responsibility for the attack. The detachment, the Brigades of Dhu an-Nurayn ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan, said that it had carried out the assault with help from the Squadrons of the First Army of Muhammad.

Al-Baghdadi.

Resistance bombards US ‘Ayn al-Asad base with Katyusha rockets Thursday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired four Katyusha rockets into the US ‘Ayn al-Asad airbase in the area of al-Baghdadi, about 170km northwest of Baghdad, at about 3pm local time Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the barrage set off explosions inside the American base. Plumes of smoke rose into the sky over the US occupied facility. US helicopters and warplanes flew into the area to prowl the skies. There was no word, however, on the extent or nature of US casualties.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported sources in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that the Resistance barrage killed at least three US soldiers and wounded another four American troops.

The source said that US reconnaissance helicopters and warplanes prowled the skies over the city but did not fire back at any target.

Al-Fallujah is still subject to intense restrictions on entering or leaving the city and a curfew is in force in the city. US forces have also banned any demonstration in the city against the draft “constitution” drawn up under US pressure in Baghdad. Increased patrols by US forces have been roaming the streets of al-Fallujah in recent days.

After the attack, US troops surrounded the area and prevented anyone from approaching. Other troops searched houses near the scene and arrested five people on various “charges,” according to a source in the Iraqi puppet army.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported a medical source in the “Ministry of Health” as saying that the large increase in the number of fatalities was because a large number of the families of those killed in the catastrophe took the bodies of their loved ones directly to cemeteries for burial without first going to hospitals to register the deaths. Other persons died by drowning in the Tigris River and their bodies were only recovered on Thursday morning.

Dr. ‘Abd al-Khaliq Mahmud, the Director of Statistics and Registration in the Provincial Department of the “Ministry of Health” of the US-installed “Iraqi government” announced that his “Ministry” had received 1,350 bottles of blood donated by the Sunni residents of al-Fallujah for the Shi‘i victims of the Baghdad Bridge Disaster that took place on Wednesday.
