Saturday, 6 August 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Hadithah.

Savage fighting continues in and around al-Hadithah Saturday morning. Resistance brings down US helicopter, citizens kill crew. Americans fall back from part of southern neighborhood under Resistance blows. At least five US troops reported killed.

Fierce fighting continued between the Iraqi Resistance and US and puppet troops in al-Hadithah early Saturday. Quds Press reported that more than 1,000 US and puppet troops were taking part in an offensive that the Americans dubbed “quick strike” ミ a name not entirely appropriate as the combat proved far from quick for the Americans.

In a dispatch posted at 8:50am Mecca time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance forces shot down a US Apache helicopter over the city, now under American blockade and assault.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that witnesses said they saw the aircraft in flames plunge to earth. Local residents killed the crew after the aircraft hit the ground. American fighter aircraft were, at the time of writing, swarming in the skies above the crash site at extremely low altitude.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent at the northern boundaries of the city, meanwhile, reported that US occupation troops had fired four rockets into the Air Quality Department, razing the building to the ground. The correspondent confirmed that no one was killed in that attack. Quds Press added that the US had also bombed the Electricity and Water Departments as well as various government buildings.

At the same time, there were reports from the al-‘Askari neighborhood in the south of al-Hadithah that the Resistance had struck heavy blows at US forces in that area, forcing them to withdraw from a small portion of the neighborhood.

Quds Press reported sources close to the Iraqi Resistance as saying that six US vehicles had been totally burned in the continuing battles on the outskirts of al-Hadithah. The sources said that five US soldiers had been killed. Fires were still visible, burning in numerous American military vehicles at the northern entrance to the city after they had been hit in an Iraqi Resistance rocket barrage.

US bombards residential neighborhood. . .

In a dispatch posted at 10:35am Mecca time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier US forces had shelled residential houses in southern al-Hadithah’s al-‘Askari neighborhood.

Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that rescue teams made up of Resistance fighters and local residents had by the time of writing pulled four children, three women, and five men out of the rubble. That number was likely to rise since the houses were all flattened over the residents inside.

Medical sources in al-Hadithah told Quds Press that four houses were completely destroyed in the savage American air raid Saturday morning.

In response to the attack on the residential area, the Iraqi Resistance fired seven Grad rockets at concentrations of US troops in the western part of the city, according to Mafkarat al-Islam. Fire and smoke could be seen rising from their armored vehicles.

At the time of writing, however, there was a lull in the fighting between the two sides following the Resistance bombardment, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

Medical sources in the city told Quds Press that the situation in the city was extremely grave since US troops had closed all roads leading into or out of the city and were preventing any aid from reaching the city’s residents.

Dr. Muhammad al-Hadithi of the City Hospital told Quds Press that the American blockade had greatly worsened the already low level of medical care in the city. The one hospital in al-Hadithah suffers from a great shortage of necessary medical supplies and he called on humanitarian organizations and associations to come to the aid of the city residents.

US aircraft destroy Barwanah Bridge after American attacks fail to capture it . . .

In a news bulletin posted at 4:29pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a little while earlier US fighter airplances had bombed and destroyed the al-Barwanah bridge northeast of al-Hadithah.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Hadithah reported that the Americans resorted to blowing up the bridge after they failed to seize control of it. The bridge was located in territory controlled by the Iraqi Resistance.

The correspondent noted, however, that the American bomb attack on the bridge cause no deaths or injuries among Resistance fighters or civilians, but it did completely cut the road between Barwanah and the town of al-Bu Dahir.

Quds Press reported that bridge bombed by the Americans was known as the al-Haqlaniyah Bridge and that the attack cut off movement in that area.

Ar-Ramadi.

US, puppet troops surround all the mosques in ar-Ramadi Saturday morning.

Residents of ar-Ramadi awoke on Saturday to find that all the 73 mosques in their city had been surrounded by US and Iraqi puppet forces.

Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi that the Americans had posted a giant armored vehicle at the gates of every mosque, blocking the main entrance and preventing worshippers from getting inside or from broadcasting the call to prayer.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans surrounded all the mosques after Friday’s threat by the Iraqi Resistance to mount a massive attack on US and Iraqi puppet forces, claiming that the Resistance fighters use the mosques as bases for launching their operations.

In a dispatch posted at 5:45pm Mecca time Saturday afternoon, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in ar-Ramadi reported that US Marines backed up by tanks had stormed into more than 20 mosques in the city and proceeded to ransack them.

The correspondent reported that those mosques were completely laid waste. The Marines burst into them, smashing their main doors ミ even though they were open ミ and smashed glass inside the sanctuary.

In seven of the 20 mosques the American occupation soldiers desecrated copies of the Qur’an, kicking them across the floor and hysterically tearing them into pieces.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent described the American soldiers’ actions as “provocations.” He noted that the US troops had already surrounded all the mosques in the city on the claim that they had received word that the places of worship served as bases for the launch of armed attacks on the US troops. But the Amercan Marines’ own actions ミ ransacking the mosques and tearing up copies of the Qur’an that had been sitting on high shelves ミ proved that the buildings housed no Resistance fighters at all.

At the time of writing, the correspondent wrote, the American raids and “searches” were still steadily underway in ar-Ramadi, as the American forces were ransacking one mosque after another.

The Iraqi Resistance issued a communiqu in which it said that the American campaign was an attempt to provoke the Resistance fighters to come out and fight the Americans in open streets. But the Resistance stressed that its men would not fall into the American trap, saying that they would, however, respond to the Americans’ actions in a way that would bring joy to the people of ar-Ramadi.

The correspondent was able to take a photograph of one of the Mosques of ar-Ramadi in which the Americans had ripped up copies of the Qur’an. That photo can be viewed at:

Resistance replies to American desecrations with ferocious bombardments of US camps.

Responding to hysterical and provocative attacks by US Marines that desecrated mosques throughout their city, the Iraqi Resistance in ar-Ramadi unleashed barrages of Katyusha and powerful Grad rockets on US bases in the western and eastern part of the city.

In a report posted at 6:50pm Mecca time Saturday evening, the ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who was in a position near the US al-Warrar base to the west of the city, said that the bombardment was still underway at the time of writing. So far more than 14 Katyusha and Grad rockets had blasted into the US-occupied facility. Missiles were still coming in to the US base from time to time and from various directions.

To the east of ar-Ramadi, where US forces have set up their base in al-Anbar Provincial University’s Agricultural College, local eye witnesses told the correspondent that more than nine mortar rounds had blasted into the base. They said that large parts of the buildings inside the US-occupied college had sustained such impacts that through all the flame and smoke the damage could clearly be seen.

US forces responded to the bombardments by firing relentlessly at what they believed to be the sources of the incoming rockets and mortar rounds. The correspondent noted that at the same time US helicopters had flown in and could be seen hovering over the bases and evacuating the dead and wounded.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance bombards US al-Habbaniyah base late Saturday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 6:55pm Mecca time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before the Iraqi Resistance had fired 11 heavy mortar rounds into the US base in al-Habbaniyah, some 50km west of Baghdad.

The correspondent in the city reported that the mortar shells struck buildings inside the base, sending thick clouds of smoke billowing into the sky in a display visible for about four miles. Sirens wailed loudly within the base and then four loud explosions shook the US-occupied facility and its environs.

The correspondent reported members of the Iraqi Resistance ミ who spread out in strength after the bombardment in expectation that US troops would come out of their camp and into the street in fear of the missiles ミ that the mortar rounds struck their planned targets.

Al-Fallujah.

Four US troops reported killed in as-Saqlawiyah bombing Saturday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded on the highway that links al-Fallujah with as-Saqlawiyah west of Baghdad at 5pm Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in as-Saqlawiyah that a bomb that was planted by the side of the highway blew up as a US column passed by, destroying one Humvee and disabling a second. Four American troops were killed, the witnesses reported.

US troops closed the highway for two hours and then were observed hauling away the wrecked vehicle from the area. Meanwhile other US troops deployed along the road to search for other bombs that they feared might be planted there. Later the Americans left the area.

Al-Khalidiyah.

Four US troops reported killed in roadside bombing early Saturday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the city of al-Khalidiyah west of Baghdad at 8am local time Saturday morning.

Witnesses in al-Khalidiyah told Mafkarat al-Islam that a bomb that was planted by the side of a dirt road that runs alongside the main highway linking al-Khalidiyah with ar-Ramadi to the west blew up as a US Humvee went past. The blast killed four American troops and wounded three more.

US forces closed the main road and opened fire indiscriminately around the area after the attack, seriously wounding a motorist who happened to be on the road at the time. The Americans began raiding nearby houses and arrested six people whom they claimed were “suspects” of involvement in the attack.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Samarra’.

Resistance bombards US base in occupied Presidential Palace in Samarrra’.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired seven Katyusha rockets into the US base set up in one of the Iraqi presidential palaces in Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad, at 6pm local time Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses told the Samarra’ correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the Katuysha rockets sent thick clouds of smoke billowing up over the base, followed by a series of explosions that rocked the inside of the American-occupied palace.

US helicopters came in over the US base after the attack, but the correspondent had no precise information on the nature and extent of US casualties in the palace, which lies behind a US security perimeter.

Tikrit.

Four US troops reported killed in martyrdom car bombing early Saturday.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into a US armored column on Baghdad Road in the middle of Tikrit at about 8am local time Saturday morning.

Residents of the al-Mu‘allimin neighborhood in Tikrit told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city that a martyrdom fighter driving a black BMW car burst into rear part of a column of two armored vehicles and six Humvees and blew up. The blast totally destroyed one Humvee, killing its crew of four US troops.

US forces then encircled the whole area, closing the main road that links Tikrit with Baghdad to the south. American troops were observed evacuating the bodies of the ded from the scene.

Babil Province.

Al-Yusufiyah.

Four US troops reported killed in Resistance ambush that sends Americans fleeing.

Iraqi Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons attacked a US patrol in the al-Yusufiyah area at 2pm Saturday afternoon local time.

The al-Yusufiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the Resistance detachment ambushed the US patrol sparking a battle that lasted about half an hour. In the course of the combat, Resistance forces destroyed one Humvee, killing four US troops. The other vehicles in the American patrol fled.

Al-Mahmudiyah.

Nine US troops reported killed in double bombing midday Saturday.

Two Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded by a US patrol in the al-Mahmudiyah area south of Baghdad at 1:30pm local time Saturday.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Mahmudiyah reported eyewitnesses as saying that two bombs blew up in succession as a US patrol was proceeding along the main road in the city ミ the road that links al-Mahmudiyah with Baghdad in the north.

The witnesses said that the blasts destroyed two Humvees, killing at least nine US troops.

After the double bombing, American troops opened fire indiscriminately and spread out into various neighborhoods of the city. US forces were observed evacuating the bodies from the scene of the attack.

Al-Latifiyah.

Eight US troops reported killed in martyrdom truck-bomb attack early Saturday.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden pickup into a joint US-Iraqi puppet “national guard” checkpoint in al-Latifiyah, south of Baghdad at 9am local time Saturday morning.

Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the blast killed eight US troops and three Iraqi “national guards”. Three other “national guardsmen” were wounded. The witnesses said that the bomb totally destroyed the checkpoint.

After the attack, US troops surrounded the whole area and closed the main road to the city.

Diyala Province.

Ba‘qubah.

Local Badr Brigade chief liquidated in Ba‘qubah Friday morning.

Iraqi Resistance fighters shot and killed a local leader of the Shi‘i chauvinist collaborationist Badr Brigades, the armed wing of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) in Ba‘qubah, northeast of Baghdad, at 10am Friday morning, local time.

A source in the puppet security services told Quds Press that when Ahmad Salman, the chief of the Badr Brigade militia in the al-Mu‘allimin neighborhood in Ba‘qubah came out of his house, Iraqi Resistance fighters unloaded a hail of bullets on him killing him instantly.

Salman’s son was also wounded in the attack and was taken to Ba‘qubah General Hospital for treatment, Quds Press reported.

At-Ta’mim Province.

Kirkuk.

Resistance pounds US base in Kirkuk Airport, blows up ammunition dump.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired five medium-range Grad rockets into the US base set up in Kirkuk Airport in northern Iraq at 7am local time Saturday morning.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army who asked not to be identified told Mafkarat al-Islam that three of the rockets blasted into weapons and ammunition dump, producing an enormous explosion that left six US troops dead and three others wounded.

One other rocket slammed into a building used by the soldiers for rest and relaxation. That explosion left seven Americans dead or wounded, the source said.

American helicopters and fighter airplanes could be seen prowling the skies of the city after the attack.

Al-Basrah Province.

Al-Basrah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb rocked the headquarters of British forces in al-Basrah at midday on Saturday.

Witnesses told Quds Press that a massive explosion struck the British forces post set up in the Satt al-‘Arab Hotel in al-Basrah, destroying the back part of the hotel. An official British forces spokesman admitted that the blast had killed four British troops and seriously wounding 12 more.

British counselor shot dead in al-Basrah.

A British counselor working for the RTI company and his Iraqi female translator were shot and killed on al-Istiqlal Street in al-Basrah, according to a Quds Press dispatch posted at 10:17 GMT Saturday.

Major General Hasan Sawadi as-Sa‘d, spokesman for the al-Basrah puppet police, said that the British counselor was killed immediately but that his translator, Nur al-Khal, was fatally wounded and taken to hospital. Before she died, she reportedly said that the assailants who had shot her and the Briton had driven by in an Iraqi puppet police car.

An American journalist was also abducted and apparently killed by men wearing puppet police uniforms a few days ago. (See “American writer, supporter of US invasion, found dead in al-Basrah.” in Iraqi Resistance Report: Wednesday, 3 August 2005.)
