Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Qa’im.

Twenty-four civilian villagers killed by savage US air raids on as-Sa‘dah early Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:50am Mecca time Saturday morning, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im near the Syrian border, reported that a short while before, US fighter bombers had attacked the nearby village of Sa‘dah.

The correspondent reported that the US F-16 aircraft bombed or rocketed several homes in the village, killing 20 local residents, among them women and children. Four other civilians were wounded in the air raid.

Earlier, before dawn, at about 3am local time Saturday morning, the Americans had mounted another attack on the same village that left four villagers dead, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported.

In telephone calls to hospitals in al-Qa’im, Quds Press obtained confirmation from medical sources that more than 30 Iraqi civilians, many of them women and children, had been killed by American air raids on al-Qa’im and surrounding villages during Friday-Saturday night.

American offensive on al-Qa’im gets under way.

In a dispatch posted at 1:10pm Mecca time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before the US had launched its expected offensive on the city of al-Qa’im in western Iraq on the Syrian border.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Qa’im reported that more than 1,000 American troops backed up by various types of cars and armored vehicles and with intensive air cover from fighter planes and helicopters had advanced towards al-Qa’im from the direction of the village of Sa‘dah, already ‘softened up’ with air raids that targeted the civilian population earlier in the day.

The Iraqi Resistance in al-Qa’im, for its part, used the loudspeakers on mosques to proclaim a call to arms. The correspondent reported that at that moment mosques were broadcasting prayers and war cries of “Allahu akbar!” (“God is greatest!”) to bolster the spirit of those preparing to stand up to the American attack.

The correspondent reported that at the time of writing residents of the city were apparently attempting to flee al-Qa’im to try to escape the savage bombing and shelling campaigns that have become the trade mark of the American offensives on Iraqi cities. Residents were carrying whatever light but precious belongings they could pack up as they tried to get out of the path of the onrushing American onslaught.

In a Saturday dispatch from ar-Ramadi, Quds Press reported that a wave of refugees had already begun leaving al-Qa’im on Friday following threats by the US military that it was planning an assault on the city.

Residents of al-Qa’im told Quds Press that the American military dropped leaflets on the city Friday threatening the inhabitants of the towns of al-‘Ubaydi and al-Karabilah as well as residents of al-Qa’im that US forces intended to storm into their areas and then hand them over to the Iraqi puppet troops ミ known in many cases for sectarian reprisals against Sunnis. The American leaflets gave Saturday as the deadline for citizens of al-Qa’im and neighboring towns to get out of their way.

In its Saturday dispatch, Quds Press said that the number of families that had left the area of al-Qa’im was about 7,250, according to statistics compiled by an aid committee in western Iraq. Of those families, some 2,000 were in the city of ‘Anah (about 70km east of al-Qa’im), the rest were all dispersed in villages along the upper Euphrates valley and in the agricultural projects along the desert road to ‘Akashat (about 125km southwest of al-Qa’im.

Fighting flared in al-Qa’im on Friday when an Iraqi Resistance bomb blew up and totally destroyed an American personnel carrier, Quds Press reported. US helicopters were seen prowling the skies of the city after that attack and later the US bombarded several positions in the city, including one mosque, killing four civilians.

Heavy American bombing of al-Qa’im, al-Karabilah reported.

During the day on Saturday, Quds Press reported sources in al-Qa’im as saying that American aircraft had begun violent and intensive bombing raids on the nearby town of al-Karabilah.

The sources reported that beginning on Saturday morning, US aircraft had flown numerous sorties over al-Qa’im and vicinity. American aerial bombardments of al-Karabilah were particularly intense. The Quds Press sources had no information on the extent of civilian casualties in the area because since dawn Saturday, American forces had closed all roads from the area to al-Qa’im as large numbers of American military vehicles advanced through there towards the border city.

The abduction followed America’s launch of an offensive against the city of al-Qa’im and, as noted by al-Jazeera, was a “clear indication of the poor security performance of the Iraqi regime forces.”

For its part the Hebrew-language Zionist newspaper Maariv, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, also reported the abduction in a bulletin on Saturday.
