Injured passengers told the correspondent that an American patrol had been directly tailing their bus. The blast struck the bus but left the American military detachment unharmed.

Members of the Iraqi Fire Department confirmed to Mafkarat al-Islam that the US forces had detonated the bomb after discovering it with their mine sweeping devices. Sources in the Iraqi puppet “Civil Defense forces” said that the Americans set off the bomb as the bas was passing by.

In a dispatch posted at 12:45pm Mecca time Monday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter had blown up an explosives-laden car near the gate of the Iranian embassy in central Baghdad, some 200 meters from the Republican Palace area in Baghdad ミ the district called the “Green Zone” by the US where the headquarters of the American occupation regime has been set up.

First reports indicated that a number of guards at the Iranian embassy and soldiers in the Iraqi puppet army had been killed or wounded in the attack.

Quds Press reported sources in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that three guards working for a mercenary “security company” hired by the American occupation forces were killed in the massive explosion that shook the area near the heavily guarded “Green Zone.”

Captain Ahmad ‘Abdallah of the Iraqi puppet police told Quds Press that an explosives-packed car driven by a Resistance fighter drove into a column of four-wheel-drive vehicles used by mercenary security companies working for the Americans at 9:20am local time Monday morning. Captain ‘Abdallah said that the blast killed three of the security guards and wounded another two of them. He said that they were believed to have been American.

Captain ‘Abdallah said that following the attack, US troops closed off the whole area, preventing Iraqi puppet police personnel from entering the area where the explosion took place. The Americans then evacuated the dead and wounded to a hospital inside the “Green Zone”

Quds Press reported that it was not possible to say how much damage had been done to the Iranian Embassy, near which the blast took place. Witnesses reported, however, that the damage had been considerable.

Residents of ad-Durah told the local Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons attacked a puppet police patrol, sparking a battle that lasted about half an hour.

The intensity of gunfire and the indiscriminate shooting of the Iraqi puppet police prevented the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent from ascertaining an precise information as to the nature and extent of casualties, although a source in the Iraqi puppet police said that three puppet policemen had been killed and four others wounded in the attack. Fearful of more scandal, US forces raid, close down secret torture cells run by their Badr Brigade allies on Sunday.

US forces on Sunday raided a headquarters of their allies the Shi‘i separatist Badr Brigades in Baghdad where dozens of youths had been imprisoned. Reliable sources told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad that the US forces freed the prisoners held by their Badr Brigade allies in the Sunday raid.

A source in the US-installed “Iraqi Defense Ministry” told Mafkarat al-Islam that US military representative had said that an American unit raided the Badr Brigade headquarters in the south of Baghdad and found dozes of Sunni prisoners being tortured in secret cells. The source said that the Americans released all the prisoners immediately and arrested the Badr Brigade members in charge of the facility.

The source said that he believed that petitions delivered to US Secretary General Kofi Annan during a visit to occupied Baghdad might have prompted the American raid. Annan had been given prove of the existence of secret unofficial prisons run by the Badr Brigades in which dozens of Sunnis were being held. The source thought it likely that the American media would be disclosing the story in the near future.

Mafkarat al-Islam noted that complete reports on the secret dungeons operated by the Shi‘i sectarian Badr Brigades had been sent to the Human Rights organizations as well as the United Nations and that these no doubt put the American occupation in the difficult situation of either allowing the situation to continue and risk another prison scandal, or take action to close the facilities that were operating on the basis of Islamic legal rulings provided by pro-American Shi‘i cleric Ayatallah ‘Ali as-Sistani and others.

The American raids on the secret Badr Brigade facilities also come at a time when there are stories circulating in the international media concerning secret prisons around the globe operated by the US CIA.
