Nine American soldiers reported dead, some of them women, in fighting around US command post in Hit.

In a dispatch posted at 6pm Mecca time Tuesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had attacked a US column in the at-Turbah area and in the al-‘Askari neighborhood in the north of the city of Hit in western Iraq, according to a statement given to Mafkarat al-Islam by the General Director of the Hit Fire Department.

Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim al-‘Ani, the Fire Chief in Hit, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the fighting in the at-Turbah and al-‘Askari neighborhoods of the city left nine US troops dead and four others wounded, among them American woman soldiers. The US women troops carried out searches of women that were done at the American-run command posts at the entrance to the city, after local people refused to accept US Marines at the checkpoints doing searches of men and girls.

The Hit Fire Chief said that if it had not be for US fighter aircraft, the battle would have lasted longer than two hours, but F-16s showed up and rocketed the areas where the fighting was taking place, forcing the Resistance fighters to withdraw after having pulled of a largely successful ambush.

Head of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood meets US-installed puppet “Prime Minister” of Iraq.

The General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Muhammad Mahdi ‘Akif, on Monday met with the US-installed “Iraqi Prime Minister” Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari where he was staying in Cairo.

According to the Ikhwanonline website, the meeting of the two men lasted for an hour and a half, during which al-Ja‘fari briefed ‘Akif on the latest developments in occupied Iraq and on the effort to “achieve an Iraqi renaissance.”

For his part, ‘Akif praised the reform effort and stressed the need to preserve the unity of Iraq, while working to end the occupation, the Ikhwanonline site reported.

The Ikhwanonline website is an official site operated by the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, called in Arabic the Ikhwan al-Muslimin.

The call for “working to end the occupation” is in keeping with the official position taken by al-Ja‘fari. Although al-Ja‘fari’s position as “Prime Minister” depends on the continued US military control of Iraq, the American occupation is so widely unpopular in the country that the US-installed al-Ja‘fari must himself claim to be committed to “ending the occupation,” actual plans for which entail not the total withdrawal of US forces but their re-designation as an “allied” military force.

Ikhwanonline reported that the meeting was also attended by Dr. Mahmud ‘Izzat, the General Secretary of the Muslim Brotherhood, by Mas‘ud as-Sibhi, the Secretary of the Guide, and by Dr. ‘Isam al-‘Iryan a leader in the movement.
