Friday, 25 November 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Qa’im.

US invader troops reportedly drive five kilometers into Syrian territory, lose armored vehicle in battle with Resistance fighters, then withdraw to occupied Iraq with their wreckage.

Following the violent combat that raged on Thursday night between Iraqi and other Arab Resistance fighters on the one hand and US occupation troops on the other, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the al-Qa’im area learned that US troops penetrated about five kilometers into Syrian territory in an attempt to chase down Resistance fighters.

Residents of Makr adh-Dhib village as well as Syrian citizens, who spoke with Mafkarat al-Islam over the telephone, said that a US armored vehicle was completely destroyed on Syrian soil and was then hauled back into occupied Iraq.

The correspondent reported that the battles that went on for about three hours left 20 American troops dead or wounded. A number of Arab Resistance fighters were also killed.

The Syrian army was observed deployed in very large numbers along the border, separated by only a few kilometers from the American occupation troops who retreated back into occupied Iraq after their penetration into Syrian territory.

In al-Qa’im the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that US occupation forces had carried out raids and searches there looking for Arab resistance fighters who had got into occupied Iraq and into the al-Qa’im area, specifically, having volunteered to resist the American invaders of Arab territory.

Religious leader in al-Qa’im reported killed by US forces.

In a dispatch posted at 5pm Mecca time Friday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported from al-Qa’im that US occupation troops on Thursday had killed Shaykh ‘Abdallah al-‘Ani, a local religious scholar and imam of the al-Qa’im Mosque.

The correspondent reported that the killing occurred after the sunset prayers on Thursday evening, when Shaykh al-‘Ani left the mosque headed for home.

The correspondent wrote that Shaykh al-‘Ani had been very helpful to Mafakrat al-Islam during the recent battle of al-Qa’im, helping the correspondents cover the fighting in which Resistance forces fought US occupation troops for six days of heavy combat. He even lent the correspondents his personal car to facilitate their coverage of the battle.

Resistance car bomb blasts US troops Thursday night.

In a dispatch posted at 8:45pm Mecca time Thursday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter had driven a car bomb towards a group of US troops near al-Qa’im in western Iraq near the Syrian border.

The correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that an Opel stationwagon blew up near US troops. US helicopters flew in and landed at the scene after the blast as flares lit up the sky.

Rawah.

Resistance car bomber blasts US column in Rawah.

In a dispatch posted at 10:10pm Mecca time Friday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter had driven an explosives-laden car into a US military column of several Humvees and Bradley armored vehicles on the road from Rawah east to Rayhanah.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Rawah reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Resistance fighter succeeded in breaking into the American column and detonating his car despite American attempts to stop his approach with gunfire.

The car bombing set one Humvee on fire and damaged a second. The correspondent was not able to ascertain details on the nature or extent of US casualties, however, due to the security cordon that the US forces imposed around the area.

In a dispatch posted at 5:20pm Mecca time Friday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb had exploded by a US military column on the road to Barwanah, east of al-Hadithah.

The al-Hadithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that a bomb that had been planted on the road to Barwanah blew up as a column of three US troop transports and two Humvees was driving past. The explosion disabled one troop transport, killing two American soldiers and wounding three more of them.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that a truck that was carrying large metal boxes had been set ablaze in the attack. US forces attempted to extinguish the fire and rescue the cargo of the truck as American troops surrounded the whole area. At the time of reporting, US forces were still surrounding the area preventing any one in a car or on foot from approaching.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance bombards US camp in eastern ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 11:40am Mecca time Friday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had fired four mortar rounds into a US military camp near the al-Bu Fahd area in eastern ar-Ramadi, some 110km west of Baghdad.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of al-Bu Fahd who witnessed the barrage as saying that Resistance forces had bombarded the US camp with four mortar shells, sending pillars of smoke rising into the sky.

Tribal leaders, religious scholars, experienced officers form group to urge al-Qa‘idah to adopt tactics in line with other Resistance organizations.

The formation of an Enlarged Chamber of Operations in ar-Ramadi, a group embracing the tribal leaders of ar-Ramadi, several religious scholars, university professors, other intellectuals, and officers in the Army of the Republic of Iraq from before the US invasion, was announced following a meeting held on Wednesday, 23 November. The declared purpose of the organization, according to Mafkarat al-Islam, is to prevent what it sees as an imminent American offensive against ar-Ramadi, the capital of al-Anbar Province, located 110km west of Baghdad.

Following the meeting on Wednesday held in the home of an ar-Ramadi tribal leader, Shaykh ‘Awwad Khalaf al-Faraji told Mafkarat al-Islam that the group fears but fully expects that the US occupation forces and its stooges are preparing a massive offensive against the city in the next few days on the pretext of cracking down on the al-Qa‘idah organization. Shaykh al-Faraji indicated that the impending American attack is to be along the lines of similar offensives mounted by US forces on al-Qa’im, al-Hadithah, and Tall ‘Afar recently and on al-Fallujah and Samarra’ last year.

In order to forestall such a devastating US attack, the Enlarged Chamber intends to send a delegation to hold talks with the leaders of al-Qa‘idah in an effort to convince them not to take ar-Ramadi as a haven, thereby giving the occupation an excuse to strike the city “raising the cross behind their backs to destroy the Muslims with all the violence their modern weapons can unleash.”

Al-Faraji told Mafkarat al-Islam, “We will ask them to prevent the occupation from taking advantage of such an excuse to ruin the city and to urge them instead to take such measures as they deem appropriate to save the city the suffering that other Sunni Iraqi towns have endured as a result of battles on their soil.”

“All the Resistance organizations in Iraq have adopted one military method, namely the principle of strike and withdraw, or ‘hit and run’,” Mafkarat al-Islam reported a former brigadier general (who asked not to be identified by name, but who was a famous commander and whose name the occupation forces have included on their “second list” of wanted men accusing him of killing Kurds in 1987) as saying. By using “hit and run” tactics “they have inflicted damage on the American army and caused it to fumble, unable to find where the Resistance is located or from what bases it carries out its operations,” the general told Mafkarat al-Islam.

“But to go and make a city your military headquarters and your base for launching attacks is an act of military stupidity that makes it easy for the enemy to put an end to any Resistance activities, however great their military capability. Fighter planes can bomb any city like ar-Ramadi and turn it into rubble in just 24 hours. I think this is exactly what the occupation wants,” the general explained.

“We note that operations of the Resistance organizations al-Jaysh al-Islami, the Jaysh al-Mujahideen, the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution, the Group of as-Sunnah and Ansar as-Sunnah were all precise and of high quality and they inflicted pain and did damage to the occupation forces, and all of that was without their taking any city or area as their headquarters or base. But what is happening in ar-Ramadi now is not logical. Al-Qa‘idah has begun to flock in to the city after the destruction of al-Qa’im and we fear that the city of ar-Ramadi is to be the new base and that al-Qa‘idah will ‘become’ ar-Ramadi. I believe that this city is headed for ruin as other cities were. It’s for that reason that we have formed a delegation of the best men of the city, including officers with experience in the former army, religious scholars, and tribal leaders, to meet with the person designated as the Amir of al-Qa‘idah in the city. We intend to inform him of our position, urging that the ruin of the city by the occupation be prevented and I hope that he will listen to us ‘before the ax falls’,” the general told Mafkarat al-Islam.

The general added that the occupation must be prevented from using this excuse to strike the city before the American-sponsored “elections” set for mid-December.

“We support the Resistance,” the general stressed, “including the al-Qa‘idah organization, in the fight against the occupation with all the power at our disposal, but we must be concerned with the fate of the city and the deaths of hundreds of its people if, God forbid, such an offensive takes place. Not to mention the violation of dozens of women by occupation troops as happened in al-Fallujah and Tall ‘Afar.”

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that members of the al-Qa‘idah organization have been flocking in to ar-Ramadi, having fled from the hell of al-Qa’im which the Americans reduced to rubble a few weeks ago. The correspondent reported that al-Qa‘idah rejected persistent and repeated appeals by other Resistance organizations not to turn specific cities into obvious headquarters, thereby inviting destructive attacks on Iraq’s Sunni population.

Local residents there told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that a bomb that had been planted by the side of the road to the camp blew up as a column of five armor-plated four-wheel-drive cars drove past. The explosion completely destroyed one of the cars, killing four foreigners aboard it.

For his part, Dr. Walid al-A‘zami, a local resident, told Mafkarat al-Islam that in the course of the operation, which was still under way when the correspondent filed his report, the US forces had arrested more than 30 local residents, including college professors and university students as well as professionals.
