Holocaust cartoons published
A Danish newspaper has published Holocaust cartoons that were commissioned by Iran in response to the Danish caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
The six cartoons that appeared in the daily tabloid Information includes one drawing of George Bush, in a helmet bearing the Star of David, pointing at a painting of Adolf Hitler and saying: "He started it."
Iran announced in February an international competition for cartoons of the Holocaust after Information's rival, Jyllands-Posten, angered Muslims with its cartoons of Muhammad. Masoud Shojai, the head of the Iran Cartoon Association, told Information: "The idea is to show where the limits of freedom of expression are in Europe. Because if we have freedom of expression, why shouldn't we discuss the Holocaust?" He said that the Holocaust cartoons "have nothing to do with anti-Semitism" and that he had "nothing against the Jews".
The association received 1,193 drawings from 61 countries, Information said, with winners shown in an exhibition in Iran. (AFP)
