Al-Anbar Province.
Rawah.

Six US troops reported killed in two-hour battle with Resistance forces on the banks of the Euphrates in Rawah in western Iraq.

In a dispatch posted at 9pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce fighting between US and Iraqi Resistance forces raged for about two hours in Rawah on the Euphrates River in far western Iraq.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Captain Sa‘d al-Bajjari, the spokesman for the Iraqi puppet army as saying that violent battle erupted by the old Rawah Bridge over the Euphrates today when Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons and anti-tank and anti-personnel rockets attacked American troops, sparking a two-hour battle in which six American soldiers were killed and three more of them wounded.

Al-Bajjari said that the US forces called in helicopter air support about an hour after the fighting began. The helicopter gunships struck the positions of the Resistance and killed several of the Resistance fighters, Captain al-Bajjari claimed.

But the correspondent reported a medical source in the city hospital as saying that they received no bodies of any dead fighters, though they did take in seven wounded Iraqi Resistance men, including one whose condition was serious.

The correspondent reported that the positions held by the Resistance during the battle were highly advantageous to them geographically, allowing them to disappear among the papyrus reeds on the banks of the Euphrates. Taking advantage of such cover, the Resistance fighters killed and wounded a number of American troops in the first minutes of the engagement. A source in the Iraqi puppet army acknowledged that six Americans were killed and three more wounded in the battle, but the US forces as usual made no announcement of any casualties.

Ar-Ramadi.

As massive American army prepares full-scale assault on ar-Ramadi, Resistance fighters slip away, avoiding an unequal confrontation and saving the civilian residents from the American savagery. Resistance plans ambushes, bomb, and rocket attacks on US troops from outside the city.

Iraqi Resistance fighters have managed to withdraw from the city of ar-Ramadi before US forces, who are encircling and blockading the city, could launch an offensive against them.

The correspondent for Quds Press in ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad, reported that sources close to an Iraqi Resistance organization told him that the Resistance had made the decision to withdraw from the city based on their experience in the battles of al-Fallujah where it was clear that for guerrilla forces to try to hold ground against the US war machine was a fruitless waste of manpower and caused the city unnecessary suffering. The Resistance fighters, accordingly resolved to pull out of the city, to save the residents from the death and destruction that the attacking Americans would surely do them.

The sources told Quds Press that at the present time, the Americans are fighting phantoms in ar-Ramadi, now that the Resistance fighters succeeded in organizing their withdrawal from the city. The Resistance will now concentrate on mounting surprise attacks, bombings, and rocket barrages on the Americans.

The sources noted that the Iraqi Resistance has great popularity among the people of ar-Ramadi, who believe that it is the only force capable of avenging the blood of their women and children killed in cold blood by the American occupation troops.
