In a dispatch posted at 12:40pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired pipe rockets at a US column on the main road near the western entrance to the city of Hit, about 170km west of Baghdad on Wednesday evening.

The Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance fighters attacked the US column as it was passing along h road opposite the old Teachers Training Institute. One American armored vehicle was completely destroyed in the attack and its crew of five US troops were either killed or wounded. After the attack, the Iraqi Resistance fighters withdrew from the area having suffered no losses of their own.

Al-Fallujah.

Seven US troops reported killed in three separate Resistance attacks in al-Fallujah from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 12:26pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had carried out three separate attacks against US forces in al-Fallujah, some 60km west of Baghdad, since Wednesday afternoon.

The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons and pipe rockets attacked an American snipers’ nest on the main road in the First ad-Dubbat Neighborhood of eastern al-Fallujah. The attack destroyed a Humvee that was parked at the outpost, killing two US troops and wounding three more of them. After the attack US forces raided houses in the area, arresting 10 residents for no reason other than that they happened to live near where the attack took place.

Baghdad.

Puppet regime orders lock down of Sunni neighborhoods on Saturday in honor of Shi‘i religious holiday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:15pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US installed puppet regime in Baghdad had imposed a total curfew on Sunni areas of Baghdad for Saturday, 19 August when the Shi‘i population is to observe the anniversary of the death of the Shi‘i Imam Musa al-Kazim.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry” had issued an order banning all vehicle and pedestrian traffic in “hot” areas, which is to say predominantly Sunni areas of the occupied Iraqi capital, so as to “protect” the Shi‘ah from the Sunni population of the Iraqi capital during the Shi‘i holy day when thousands of Shi‘ah visit the mosque of Musa al-Kazim in Baghdad’s al-Kazimiyah district.

During the same period in 2005 false rumors started by puppet policemen provoked a stampede of Shi‘i pilgrims on one bridge in Baghdad leading to many deaths. Although the incident was not provoked by any kind of Sunni attack and although Sunni residents of Baghdad rushed to help Shi‘ah injured in the disaster, the volatile climate of sectarian tension aroused by the American occupation prompted enraged sectarian rioters in many parts of the country to target Sunnis for violent attacks.

Mysterious bomb blasts market in Shi‘i sectarian stronghold.

In a dispatch posted at 4:40pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a car bomb exploded in the Madinat Saddam district of eastern Baghdad, nicknamed “Madinat as-Sadr” after the American occupation.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the al-Habibiyah puppet police station as saying that an explosives-laden car that was parked by the side of the road in the ar-Rashshad popular market blew up amidst a throng of shoppers, shopkeepers, and hawkers in the market. The blast killed 14 people and wounded 25 more of them.

Pro-American Shi‘i sectarians recently proclaimed Madinat as-Sadr a zone closed to Sunnis, or “Nawasib” as they called them, using a derogatory term for them. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that it was understood that any Sunni caught inside the neighborhood was liable to be abducted and murdered. Many Iraqis note that the use of derogatory terms for Sunni and Shi‘i Iraqis was unknown before the American occupation cultivated sectarianism and encouraged prejudice and hatred between the two communities that have lived together in Iraq for over a thousand years.

Resistance mortar shell strikes “Green Zone” in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 1:46pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired a mortar shell into the high-security area around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad ミ the district dubbed the “Green Zone” by US occupation forces, where the Americans and the regime they installed in Iraq have their headquarters. In a dispatch posted at 1:05pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired four medium-range S-5 rockets into the US-occupied al-Bakr Air Base near the city of Yathrib, about 70km north of Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the barrage on the base, which the Americans call Camp Anaconda and which serves as one of the main American facilities in the region, set off violent explosions and sent smoke billowing into the sky.

Diyala Province.

Al-Mada’in.

Resistance bomb rips through US column in al-Mada’in.

In a dispatch posted at 12:57pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of US occupation troops in the middle of the town of al-Mada’in, about 25km southeast of Baghdad.

Three of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen were killed in the ambush.

Babil Province.

Al-Latifiyah.

Resistance bombards joint US-Iraqi puppet army facility in al-Latifiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 1pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired six 82mm mortar rounds into the headquarters jointly occupied by US and Iraqi puppet army forces in western al-Latifiyah, about 30km south of Baghdad. The al-Latifiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the barrage sent clouds of smoke billowing up over the facility.

At-Ta’mim Province.

Al-Hawijah.

US troops arrest over 70 local residents in mass raids southwest of Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 1:25pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces, accompanied by the Iraqi puppet army allies, arrested more than 70 people during a campaign of mass raids and arrests in he areas of al-Hawijah and ar-Rashshad, southwest of Kirkuk in northern Iraq.

The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Hawijah and ar-Rashshad as saying that American ground troops, accompanied by their puppet Iraqi army allies and under air cover from helicopter gun ships, stormed into their towns and into surrounding villages with dozens of armored vehicles and began raiding houses in all the villages and towns.

The raids were carried out barbarically and savagely, the witnesses said. The Americans used localized explosives and percussion grenades to blow down people’s doors and then they brought in police dogs to terrorize residents in their homes. The more than 70 people arrested in the raids range in age from 16 to 50, all of them civilians arrested for no reason other than that they oppose the presence of the occupation forces in Iraq.
