・ Streets of Iraq’s third largest city empty after Resistance calls on residents to stay home Thursday afternoon and night, arousing expectations of major attacks in coming hours.

Al-Anbar Province.
Ar-Ramadi.

Victim killed in US air strike in ar-Ramadi was clinic worker, not al-Qa‘idah commander, local residents say.

In a dispatch posted at 7:03pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi medical sources had reported that the man American occupation troops proclaimed was a top leader of al-Qa‘idah was in fact a citizen who worked in a local clinic.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported medical sources that asked not to be identified as saying that US aircraft struck a car in the as-Sajariyah area of eastern ar-Ramadi on Wednesday afternoon. The car was carrying four individuals who were returning from work at a local private clinic. One of the men in the car was al-Hajj Rafi‘ ‘Abd as-Salam al-‘Ithawi Abu Taha.

The doctor who spoke with Mafkarat al-Islam said that the announcement by the Americans that they had killed Abu Taha and that he was a commander in al-Qa‘idah was met with disbelief by local people, among whom Abu Taha was well known. He was known to have no connection with any Resistance organization in ar-Ramadi at all.

The US military had announced that they had killed a “high-ranking commander” in al-Qa‘idah along with his driver in an air strike in ar-Ramadi. The American statement named the victim as Rafi‘ ‘Abd as-Salam, known as Abu Taha.

They forced the car to halt and then and kidnapped the two puppet policemen, taking them to an unknown destination.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance fighters battle US troops in al-Fallujah early Thursday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that powerful explosions shook the area at 1:30pm early Thursday afternoon and then an intense gunbattle broke out as Resistance men fought US troops with light and medium weapons in the ad-Dubbat neighborhood of central al-Fallujah.

Witnesses reported that many local people abandoned their cars and left their places of work or closed their shops and got out of the area. Fighting intensified in the empty streets. No details on the nature or extent of casualties were available since US forces had sealed off the area after the first attack took place.

Four US troops reported killed in Resistance bombing near al-Fallujah Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 1:34pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an explosives-laden pickup blew up by a US military column in the as-Saqlawiyah area, about 15km northwest of al-Fallujah, on Thursday morning.

A group of Marines backed up by puppet troops deployed around the medical facility and then stormed inside.

The witnesses said that at there were certainly casualties among the Americans aboard the tank, given the extent of the damage done to it by the blast.

Baghdad.

Two deadly blasts target Madinat as-Sadr as efforts to stir up sectarian warfare continue.

In a dispatch posted at 11:55pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that medical sources in al-Kindi General Hospital announced that 88 people were killed or injured in two mysterious bombings that shook the Madinat as-Sadr section of Baghdad on Thursday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source as saying that the two bombs went off in quick succession, one being a car bomb and the other packed in a motorcycle. The blasts targeted two popular markets in the predominantly Shi‘i section of the occupied Iraqi capital.

The correspondent reported that one of the bombs exploded in the Muridi Market which is famous as a location where items stolen by Shi‘i sectarian militias from Sunnis driven from their homes were put up for sale. The second bomb went off in a well known bicycle market.

The medical source said that 25 people were killed and 63 injured to varying degrees in the two blasts.

In contrast to Resistance attacks, which target US or Iraqi puppet targets or pro-American sectarian militias, bombings aimed at popular markets are widely regarded as part of an effort by the US occupation and its Zionist allies to spark civil war and split Iraq along sectarian lines.

Such efforts are consistent with plans hatched by US and Zionist politicians and reflected recently by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations) in “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003, in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006. Banking on splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

But before the recent period, the idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

College professor, wife shot and killed Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 1:46pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that unknown armed men shot and killed an Iraqi university professor and his wife in northern Baghdad Thursday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that unknown armed men shot and killed Dr. Yasir Muhammad adh-Dhahabi the former Dean of the College of Administration and Economics in the University of Baghdad and his wife who also was a college professor. The attack took place on al-Maghrib Street in the al-A‘zamiyah district of northern Baghdad.

At the time of his death, Dr. adh-Dhahabi was the director of a department in the College of Administration and Economics in the University of Baghdad. The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that Iraqi puppet police took the bodies to the forensic medicine department in Bab al-Mu‘azzam, just south of al-A‘zamiyah in Baghdad from where they were to be handed over to their next of kin.

In March 2006, an article in the London Times reported that as many as 500 Iraqi academics were believed to have been murdered in the country since the US occupied Iraq in the spring of 2003. Sectarian murder is thought to be behind some of the killings, while many in Iraq believe that the focus on intellectuals is an effort by foreign secret services, in particular the Zionist Mossad, to eliminate the country’s scientific and administrative elite.

Resistance mortars pound puppet “National Guard” headquarters in western Baghdad Thursday morning.

Resistance bomb blasts security motorcade on al-Jumhuriyah Bridge in Baghdad.

The blast killed two Iraqi private security men and wounded four more. The cars in the motorcade were heavily damaged.

The correspondent noted that the al-Jumhuriyah Bridge has a high-security presence around the clock because it is one of the strategically important bridges in the occupied Iraqi capital, linking the ar-Rusafah side with the Republican Palace, the Palace of Congresses, the Defense Ministry and all the other buildings inside the top-security area that the Americans have dubbed the “Green Zone.” The al-Jumhuriyah Bridge has checkpoints upon it and motorcades of American officials and Iraqi puppet dignitaries cross over it frequently. To plant and detonate a bomb on the bridge, consequently, is a very difficult feat.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.

Resistance bomb targets motorcade of deputy puppet governor of Salah ad-Din Province Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 10:24pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by the motorcade carrying the deputy puppet governor of Salah ad-Din Province 10 kilometers north of Tikrit (about 180km north of Baghdad) at 10am local time Thursday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the Iraqi puppet security services as saying that the deputy puppet governor, Ahmad Abdallah was the target of the bombing, but that three of his companions were killed in the attack. After the attack, US troops arrested 14 local residents of the village of al-Bu ‘Ujayl.

American troops also bulldozed the home of Shakir Mahmud, claiming that his sons are members of the Iraqi Resistance. Several days earlier, their pictures were put on display and rewards were offered in return for their capture.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Resistance fighter drove a “Mark” car towards the gate of the puppet police station near the meat market in the city where a group of puppet policemen were gathered.

Immediately after the attack, puppet forces cordoned off the area, making an exact accounting of the casualties impossible to ascertain.

Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.

Streets of Iraq’s third largest city empty after Resistance calls on residents to stay home Thursday afternoon and night, arousing expectations of major attacks in coming hours.

In a dispatch posted at 4:32pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance men requested the people of the northern city of al-Mawsil not to venture out of their houses between the afternoon prayer Thursday and Friday morning prompting local residents to expect major Resistance attacks on Thursday evening and night.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that masked Resistance men drove through the streets of Iraq’s third largest city and called on “commercial shopkeepers, motorists who are on the road and families in their houses not to leave their homes lest they be hurt.”

After the Resistance announcement, the correspondent reported, the streets of al-Mawsil were soon empty of all traffic and pedestrians and the puppet police withdrew to their police stations for fear of impending attacks.

This was the first such warning ever issue by the Resistance in al-Mawsil, increasing the sense that major attacks are in the offing.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast heavily damaged a patrol vehicle, wounding three puppet policemen.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses reported that unknown armed men shot and killed Batul Jabr in the provincial administration building in al-Mawsil on Wednesday. Jabr was a puppet policewoman who would search women and go through their hand bags. She was killed while walking with her husband in the at-Tahrir neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil.
