Baghdad.

Iraqi Resistance calls on Sunnis in Baghdad to stay put, pledges to defend them in the face of pro-Iranian efforts to drive them out, partition Iraq in accordance with US-Zionist “Three State Solution.”

In a dispatch posted at 1:43pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces distributed leaflets around various Baghdad neighborhoods on Thursday morning asking local residents, most of them Sunni not to leave their homes and districts out of fear of Shi‘i sectarian attack or threat.

Recent days have witnessed rampages of pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militias in primarily Sunni areas of the Iraqi capital as part of an attempt to drive Sunnis out of Baghdad in order to create a separate “Shi‘i state” in keeping with plans to partition Iraq.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the leaflets were posted on several mosques calling on Sunni residents to show patient perseverance, to pray to God and fight Shi‘i sectarian attacks and not let them achieve their aim of driving the Sunnis out of Baghdad.

In the leaflets, the Iraqi Resistance pledged to defend Sunni people and honor against sectarian attacks. “By God,” the leaflets declared, “your honor is our honor, your blood is our blood, and you will never hear or see us as anything but zealous in defending you from these attacks.”

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines ミ which often are masked under language about forming an Iraqi “federation” ミ are a feature of plans hatched by US and Zionist politicians. Shortly after the US occupation of Iraq Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations) gave voice to such a strategy in “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003. The same partition strategy was advanced in an article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden entitled “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Prior to the American invasion, however, an effort to split the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

Even earlier, the idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

Indications that a de-facto partition of Iraq is underway appeared in on 28 and 29 November 2006, when the American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s Johnathan Karl reported that the US military was considering withdrawing its 30,000-man force from predominantly Sunni al-Anbar Province in western Iraq. Meanwhile Saudi governmental adviser Nawaf Obaid contributed an article to The Washington Post, saying that Saudi Arabia would “step into Iraq” to “guard” the Sunni population if the US withdrew.

The young man’s bodyguard was also found dead in a killing blamed on the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported security sources in Baghdad as saying that Haydar Jawad ar-Rumi and his bodyguard were abducted on Wednesday night by armed men. Their bodies were then found in the Jaysh al-Mahdi stronghold al-‘Amil neighborhood on Thursday morning.

Staff General Jawad ar-Rumi, the victim’s father who is also the puppet army commander for Baghdad’s ar-Rusafah district, accused the Jaysh al-Mahdi of abducting and killing his son. He noted that Hakim az-Zamili the deputy puppet “Minister of Health” and a commander in Jaysh al-Mahdi, had given an interview on the regime-run “al-‘Iraqiyah” TV station in which he publicly accused ar-Rumi of helping the Iraqi Resistance in ar-Rusafah by “overlooking” their activity and passing weapons and ammunition to them.
