Baghdad.

Eight US troops reported killed in day of Resistance action in Baghdad on Friday.

In a dispatch posted at 8:59pm Makkah time Friday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the occupied Iraqi capital awoke to an unfamiliar calm Friday that lasted until 9am when the Islamic Army Resistance group fired a volley of four rockets at the US base in the southern suburb of ad-Durah.

In other action in that southern Baghdad suburb, an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by US Marines and a second by Iraqi puppet army troops on al-Mahdiyah Street and at-Tayyarah Street respectively. Two US troops were killed and one wounded and three Iraqi puppet soldiers died and two more of them wounded in those explosions. The Iraqi Resistance called on their explosives engineering unit to come and disarm the shell, which they did, preventing what could have been a deadly explosion.

Iraqi boycott of Iranian goods reportedly registers success.

In a dispatch posted at 3:08pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the boycott of Iranian goods announced in Iraq several days ago had achieved significant success, according to organizers, in Sunni parts of the country.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported markets on Friday appeared nearly empty of Iranian goods that had flooded into the country following the American occupation in 2003, constituting more than 65 percent of the total goods sold, overtaking the market share even of Chinese products.

Many shopkeeper hung out signs saying “We don’t deal in Persian goods” or “We don’t deal in Iranian commodities” and dozens also burned Iranian products, saying that they were hoping to be ‘reimbursed’ by God.

The correspondent reported an economist as saying that by the end of the month, Iranian business would have suffered badly as a result of the boycott, which is keeping Iranian goods out of western Iraq’s al-Anbar Province altogether. Iranian products are likewise being rejected in al-Mawsil, Diyala Province, Salah ad-Din Province, Kirkuk, and in Baghdad. The analyst noted that the circulation of Iranian goods in the predominantly Shi‘i south and east of Iraq is continuing but that the market in that region is less lucrative that in the rest of the country.

Resistance forces blast concentration of Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen in Baghdad’s ar-Rahmaniyah area, killing 20.

In a dispatch posted at 4:46pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, Iraqi Resistance forces fired 11 mortar rounds into concentrations of Shi‘i sectarians in the ar-Rahmaniyah area of Baghdad behind the Buratha Shi‘i mosque, a notorious center for the torture and murder of Sunnis run by the Iranian-born Shi‘i sectarian cleric and member of the Iraqi puppet “Parliament” Jalal as-Saghir.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that according to preliminary reports more than 20 Jaysh al-Mahdi pro-Iranian militiamen were killed in the mortar barrage. The correspondent reported in a later dispatch Friday night that the barrage was in retaliation for four mortar rounds that the Shi‘i sectarian militia had fired into Hayfa Street on Friday morning, killing a woman.

The Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia is run by Muqtada as-Sadr, a Shi‘i cleric loyal to Iran, which is seeking to extend its regional hegemony and step into the shoes of the American occupation in Iraq.

Resistance mortars blast Jaysh al-Mahdi headquarters in Baghdad’s al-Ma‘alif.

In a dispatch posted at 3:18pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired six 82mm mortar rounds into a headquarters of the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the al-Ma ‘alif section of southwest Baghdad.

As US battle with Iran for control of Iraq escalates, American forces arrest high-ranking pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi leader Friday; Muqtada as-Sadr goes into hiding.

In a dispatch posted at 2:25pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces arrested the legal officer in the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, a man by the name of ‘Abd al-Hadi ad-Darraji in the al-Baladiyat area of eastern Baghdad at dawn on Friday.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the al-Baladiyah puppet police as saying that a US force raided a home in al-Baladiyat in which they found ad-Darraji and 10 of his companions. A clash erupted as ad-Darraji tried to flee out the back but the Americans were able to kill three of ad-Darraji’s companions and arrest the rest of the Jaysh al-Mahdi men, including ad-Darraji.

The source, who asked not to be identified, said that ad-Darraji was arrested in a house that the Jaysh al-Mahdi had commandeered from a Sunni whom the Jaysh al-Mahdi murdered.

Later in the day, Quds Press reported that Shi ‘ sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr had sent his family to a “safe place” outside of an-Najf in preparation for getting them out of Iraq. The cleric, known for his close ties to Iranian conservatives led by Iranian Prime Minister Mahmud Ahmadinajad, has reportedly left his usual quarters in an-Najaf and gone into hiding, limiting his movements and keeping only a small number of close associates informed of his whereabouts.

Quds Press reported that as the US steps up its efforts against the pro-Iranian militia, Muqtada as-Sadr had issued a directive to all commands in his organization to limit contacts with the top leaders, keeping in touch only with local chiefs, so as to make it more difficult for the US to find and arrest the top men in the pro-Iranian clerical organization.

Quds Press reported sources as saying that as-Sadr had learned that the Americans were intent upon arresting him in keeping with the warrant issued against him two years ago in connection with the assassination of the Shi‘i cleric, ‘Abd al-Majid al-Khu’i after the latter’s return to Iraq from London with US invasion troops in 2003. The warrant was shelved after the Shi‘i clerical coalition, which included Sadr’s forces took over first under puppet “Prime Minister” Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari and then under his successor and fellow party member Nuri al-Maliki, the current puppet “Prime Minister.”

The regional hegemonic regime in Iran is seeking to secure its hold in Iraq by using Shi‘i sectarian leaders and organizations in the country. It hopes to step into the shoes of the American occupation authorities whose grip on the country has been weakened by three years of increasingly severe Resistance attacks. Although the US has made extensive use of pro-Iranian sectarian groups and individuals in taking control of Iraq, if now finds itself increasingly competing with Tehran for control of the country. To forestall Iran’s attempt to replace America as colonial power in Iraq, the Iraqi Resistance continues its battle against pro-Iranian as well as US and pro-US groups and facilities.

Resistance sets off 25 car bombs in 72 hours, targeting US, Iraqi puppet troops, Shi‘i sectarian militias.

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a source in the puppet “Iraqi Defense Ministry” had announced that Iraqi Resistance forces had detonated more than 25 car bombs ミ half of them driven by Resistance fida’i fighters ミ in various parts of Iraq during he last 72 hours.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Staff Colonel Ahmad ‘Abd al-Wahhab ad-Dayini of the transportation directorate in the puppet “Defense Ministry” said that more than 25 car bombs blew up by US and Iraqi puppet troops and sectarian militia in the last 72 hours. Ad-Dayini said that the attacks were concentrated in Baghdad, Kirkuk, al-Mawsil, and in al-Anbar Province. He attributed the spate of car bombings to an effort by the Resistance to frustrate the new American “security plan” for Baghdad in which US, Iraqi puppet forces, and Shi‘i sectarian militia team up to target Iraqi Resistance forces.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of the al-Bu Sudah Village in the area of ath-Tharthar, located west of Samarra’, as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the side of the main road went off by a patrol of three US vehicles. The blast struck the second vehicle, reducing it to wreckage and scattering parts of the bodies of the three American troops who were aboard it around the area. US forces immediately opened fire indiscriminately at passing cars, killing two Iraqi civilians.

Tikrit.

US soldier reported killed by Iraqi sharpshooter in Tikrit Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 3:12pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US soldier in the city of Tikrit, about 180km north of Baghdad, on Thursday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported an eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, as saying that a US patrol that was preparing to enter the provincial government building halted for a few minutes and some of the soldiers got out of their vehicles to secure the entrance. A few seconds later one of the soldiers fell to the ground, having been hit directly in the head by a Resistance sharpshooter’s bullet. It was believed that the sharpshooter had been positioned in one of the buildings opposite the government building, since the Americans rushed to search those buildings. They found nothing, however.

In a dispatch posted at 2:31pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a detachment of pro-American Kurdish separatist Peshmergah militiamen in at-Tarimiyah, about 30km north of Baghdad. The Peshmergah men were part of an effort by US forces to transfer Kurdish militia to the area of al-Mahmudiyah south of Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Resistance attacked a column of Peshmergah gunmen that was heading to Baghdad from al-Mawsil in northern Iraq, on a still longer drive that they had begun in the city of Irbil. The Resistance men, hidden in date palm groves fired rockets and Kalashnikov assault rifles at the Kurdish gunmen, destroying two Peshmergah Jeeps and killing five of the gunmen and wounding four more.

The correspondent reported that US helicopters were escorting the Kurds to the south and that they intervened when the attack took place firing at the groves where the attackers were hidden but inflicting no casualties among the Resistance men.

The witnesses said that two US troops were killed in the attack and two more of them wounded. Afterwards, the Americans closed off the whole area and carried out searches of the surrounding area.

As-Sulaymaniyah Province.
Banjwin.

In a dispatch posted at 10:01am Makkah time Friday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an informed source in the town of Banjwin (also known as Panjvin) on the border with Iran that there have been increased Iranian military movements in the border region adjacent to the northern, predominantly Kurdish part of Iraq in recent days.

A source in the Kurdish border guards who asked to remain anonymous told the German News Agency that about 150 troops of the Iranian army gathered at the Bashmakh border crossing in the Banjwin district, about 110km east of as-Sulaymaniyah city. Iran has beefed up its military camps in the Bashmakh and Bardarsh areas with more troops equipped with various types of weapons, light and heavy, the source said.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported the German Press Agency report as saying that a similar Iranian force of 100 troops was deployed at the Siran Band border crossing north of Bashmakh.

While Iran has promoted efforts to strengthen the position of pro-Iranian clerics and militias in Iraq and even within the ruling regime there with a view to splitting Iraq on sectarian lines and creating a Shi‘i sectarian state in the south and east of the country, Tehran has viewed with considerable hostility efforts by the Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq to assert their control of that region. Iran and Turkey ミ both countries with Kurdish minorities ミ have coordinated moves to menace apparent efforts by the Kurds in northern Iraq to work for a separate Kurdistan state in that region.

Al-Basrah Province.
