The witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam on Friday that 17 Street is closed for the third straight day along with the whole ath-Thilah area. They added that the Americans had deployed snipers on the rooftops of tall buildings and noted that the whole district is regularly the scene of fierce Resistance attacks against the US forces.

The attack sparked a battle that lasted for about half an hour. The source in the puppet police confirmed that there had been casualties in the attack but refused to provide any more specifics.

Baghdad.

At least eight US military personnel reported killed as Resistance car bombs, explosive devices, sharpshooters targets American and Iraqi puppet troops in Baghdad Friday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:59pm Makkah time Friday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a column of nine US armored vehicles on Muhammad al-Qasim road to the south and east of Baghdad at 8am local time Friday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast destroyed one Humvee and disabled a second. Seven American Marines were killed in the attack according to exclusive sources.

As is usually the case on Fridays, a curfew was imposed on Baghdad from 11am to 4pm local time Friday. Nevertheless, the Resistance detonated 10 bombs by US and Iraqi puppet forces and sectarian militias.

In the first of those incidents a heavy 120mm mortar shell exploded by a US troop transport on al-‘Asl Street Friday morning. The blast destroyed the personnel carrier and killed or wounded more than eight American soldiers, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. US troops then surrounded the entire area and arrested owners of homes in the area.

Then at 10:20am local time Friday morning, a powerful explosion shook the al-Fallahat area of far northern Baghdad. It was later learned that an Iraqi Resistance bomb planted under a man hole cover had gone off, killing one US soldier and wounding two more of them, according to eyewitnesses in the area.

A third Resistance bomb exploded by a US foot patrol near the al-Muhajirin Mosque in western Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah district. Witnesses on the scene differed as to the effects, some saying that four Americans were killed or wounded in the blast, others certain that five US soldiers had been killed.

Two more Resistance bombs targeted US forces in the Ma‘arid al-Bayya‘ and az-Za‘faraniyah districts of Baghdad but no further details were known about casualties or damage in those attacks.

An Iraqi Resistance fighter shot and wounded a US soldier in the al-Mansur neighborhood of Baghdad. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the American soldier, who was not killed in the attack, was taken by ambulance to the US military hospital inside the top security area around the Iraqi Republican Palace in Baghdad ミ the region dubbed the “Green Zone” by the Americans.

In an unusual incident, a police dog owned by Ahmad Qasim, an Iraqi resident of the western Baghdad district of al-‘Amiriyah, attacked a passing American foot patrol as it passed in front of Qasim’s home on Friday morning. The Americans shot the dog after it inured two of the Americans, one of them seriously. The US soldiers then arrested Ahmad Qasim and charged him with inciting the dog to attack the American occupation troops.

The Resistance set off five bombs by Iraqi puppet forces and pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in Baghdad on Friday.

Three mortar rounds struck the Shi‘i Buratha Mosque in Baghdad on Friday, a facility reportedly used as a torture and execution center by Shi‘i sectarian militias. The Imam of he mosque is the Iranian citizen Jalal as-Saghir, a well known leader of Shi‘i sectarian militias. There were reports of casualties as a result of Friday’s mortar attack on the mosque, but no details were available at the time the correspondent submitted his report.

The Resistance also fired a mortar shell at a headquarters of the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)” in the ash-Shurtah al-Khamisah district of Baghdad at 4pm local time Friday afternoon.

The bodies of 24 Sunnis who had been abducted by Shi‘i sectarian death squads were found in Baghdad on Friday.

The correspondent reported that Resistance men armed with rocket launchers and machine guns ambushed the convoy near the checkpoint on the highway that runs past al-Ghazaliyah, scoring direct hits on the vehicles and inflicting heavy casualties. American reinforcements showed up immediately after the attack and surrounded the entire area. They then began hauling away the wrecked vehicles and evacuating the dead and wounded.

Defections from pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia reportedly on the increase as pressure from Iraqi Resistance grows.

In a dispatch posted at 2:34pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an informed source in a Shi‘i sectarian party operating in the Madinat Saddam section of Baghdad ミ a district nicknamed “Madinat as-Sadr” since the US occupation ミ said that dozens of members of the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia had resigned from the militia and fled the country to Iran, Lebanon, or Syria following hard-hitting attacks on the group by Iraqi Resistance fighters.

The “Madinat as-Sadr” correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from Baghdad that a source in the Shi ‘ sectarian al-Fadilah Party who asked not to be identified said that an Iraqi Resistance organization had acquired a roster containing the names and addresses of a large number of Jaysh al-Mahdi militia members. For the past two weeks, the Resistance had been carrying out an extensive program of liquidating those Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen.

The source said that since the explosions in the city of Samarra’ ミ an apparent reference to the mysterious bombing of the Imam al-Hadi mosque on 22 February 2006, which signaled a massive offensive of pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian forces in Iraq ミ more than 25,000 Shi‘i sectarians had been killed throughout the country. The campaign against the pro-Iranian sectarians was particularly intense in Baghdad, Diyala Province, the Samarra’ area in Salah ad-Din Province, and in other regions.

The source noted that the Resistance attacks had also crippled a large number of Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen, placing an increasingly heavy burden on sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr, to whom the disabled sectarian fighters have persistently appealed to continue paying their monthly wages and provide compensation.

Sources indicated that there have been increasing instances of infighting within the ranks of the Jaysh al-Mahdi, in particular over control of the money derived from the “khums” ミ the Shi‘i tithe funds ミ and loot seized in sectarian raids and ethnic cleansing campaigns. The sources said that such battles had left more than 20 Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen dead in Baghdad and an-Najaf alone.

The sources said that the movement of Muqtada as-Sadr and its armed wing the Jaysh al-Mahdi is increasingly gripped by the fear that the rival Shi‘i sectarian gang, the Badr Brigades headed by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, will overcome the Jaysh al-Mahdi, particularly after al-Hakim’s recent visits to US President George W. Bush and his appeals for American help in “dissolving the militias” by which al-Hakim obviously meant the Jaysh al-Mahdi, not his own Badr Brigade.

The Badr Brigade, a force of nearly 30,000 men, which is the armed wing of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) was trained in Iran for decades prior to joining the US military in their invasion of Iraq in 2003. After the American occupation, the Badr Brigades became the backbone of the puppet regime’s security forces and puppet army.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Samarra’.

Resistance car bomb kills brother of member of Iraqi puppet parlimanet in Samarra’ Friday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 3:16pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded near the home of the brother of a member of the head of the puppet Municipal Council of Samarra’ on Friday morning.

The powerful bomb killed Ahmad ‘Ali al-Yasin and his wife instantly. Four of their children were injured in the explosion.

The sources in the puppet police said that the bomb went off just after Ahmad al-Yasin, a businessman, had left his house with his family. In addition to killing al-Yasin and his wife, the explosion heavily damaged their house and several neighboring homes as well.

Ad-Dulu‘iyah.

Resistance bomb rips through puppet police patrol north of ad-Dulu‘iyah Friday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 3:09pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of Iraqi puppet police in ad-Dulu‘iyah, about 100km north of Baghdad on Friday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that a bomb that had been planted in the Wadi al-Mawt (“Valley of Death”) area to the north of ad-Dulu‘iyah went off by a passing patrol of the Iraqi puppet police. The explosion completely destroyed one patrol vehicle, wounding two puppet policemen, one of them a captain. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Diyala Province.
Al-Miqdadiyah.

Bodyguards of puppet deputy governor killed in armed attack Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:11am Makkah time Friday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that unknown armed men shot and killed two bodyguards of the deputy puppet governor of Diyala Province in al-Miqdadiyah, about 85km northeast of Baghdad, on Thursday.

The Ba‘qubah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that armed men in a car opened fire on another car in which the two bodyguards of the deputy puppet governor were riding.
