Al-Basrah.

British occupation troops shut down puppet Major Crimes Directorate in al-Basrah ミ a puppet regime facility under supervision of Iranian Intelligence ミ as rift widens between Anglo-Americans and Iran.

In a dispatch posted at 10:51am Makkah time Monday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a large force of British tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, and fighter planes stormed the building housing the Major Crimes Directorate of the Iraqi puppet government in the southern city of al-Basrah at dawn on Monday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the British troops clashed with the Iraqi puppet regime forces in the puppet police building, killing seven of the puppet police and setting free 178 individuals, most of them Sunni, who had been held in the jails of the puppet police building.

A British spokesman claimed that the raid was in response to intelligence information that revealed that the puppet police facility was being used by Shi‘i sectarian militias for torture and murder. In the course of their raid, the British also seized a large quantity of ammunition and mortar shells. After pulling out of the building, the British occupation troops blew it up with explosives, destroying it.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Directorate of Major Crimes of the puppet police in al-Basrah had been set up by Iranian intelligence a few months after the Anglo-American occupation of Iraq. The US and Britain invaded Iraq with the collaboration of the Iranian regime and some 30,000 Badr Brigade militiamen who had been trained and equipped by the Iranian military joined the Americans and Britons in the occupation.

The Directorate of Major Crimes in al-Basrah was set up in that environment of Anglo-American-Iranian cooperation and the building quickly became a headquarters for the Shi‘i sectarian militiamen who served as the backbone for the American-backed Iraqi puppet security forces after the occupation.

Since that time a majority of prisoners held in the Directorate were Sunni Iraqis arrested and held without charge as part of the Shi‘i sectarian effort to implement a “cleansing” of southeastern Iraq of Sunnis in an effort to implement plans for a partition of the country on religious lines. The most recent such victim was young Muhammad Samir, a student of the al-Hasan al-Basri religious school who was captured, tortured and murdered at the Directorate. Samir’s body was handed back to his family on Sunday and they were prohibited from allowing any photographs to be taken and from having any mourning services.

Former prisoners who were released from the facility have reported that Iranian Intelligence officers showed up from time to time on inspection tours of the facility and overseeing the torture carried on there. The Iranian officials would speak Farsi and showed up in the company of officials of the al-Basrah puppet provincial “government.”

In recent months relations between Iran and the Anglo-American occupation authorities in Iraq have deteriorated and as a result the US and British occupation authorities have begun trying to reassert control over the activities of the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian militias on whom they have long relied for local security in occupied Iraq.

For its part, the regional hegemonic regime in Iran has been seeking to secure its hold in Iraq by using Shi‘i sectarian leaders and organizations. They hope to step into the shoes of the American occupation authorities whose grip on the country has been weakened by three years of increasingly severe Resistance attacks. To forestall Iran’s attempt to replace America as colonial power in Iraq, the Iraqi Resistance continues its battle against pro-Iranian as well as US and pro-US groups and facilities.
