Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Hadithah.

Resistance organization sinks US gunboat near al-Hadithah Saturday afternoon, reportedly killing three US Marines.

In a dispatch posted at 8:21pm Makkah time Saturday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that that the Ansar as-Sunnah Iraqi Resistance organization announced that it had destroyed a US gunboat on the Euphrates River in the al-Bu Hayyat area near al-Hadithah, 170km northwest of Baghdad on Saturday afternoon. The organization pledged to continue to attack US gunboats and to turn the Euphrates into waters that are “off limits” to the Americans.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Shaykh Abu Ibrahim al-Hadithi of the Ansar as-Sunnah as saying that the Resistance group ambushed the American N9 gunboat at 4:20pm local time Saturday afternoon as it was carrying three US Marines along the river on reconnaissance.

Shaykh al-Hadithi said that the Resistance men attacked and destroyed the boat, killing the three Marines. He said that the body of one of them was still in the river − the US forces having been unable to find it until the time of his statement.

Al-Hadithi pleged that the Resistance would ban US gunboats from the waters of the Euphrates. “We will go after them in the waters of the Euphrates like some people go fishing there,” he said.

The correspondent reported that US troops sealed off the al-Hadithah dam 15 minutes after the attack and surrounded the area. About a month earlier US forces had ordered the clearing of papyrus reeds and tall grasses growing along the banks of the Euphrates in the area, out of fear that Resistace fighters would use them for cover in launching attacks on US gunboats. But local people said that the grasses and reeds grew back surprisingly fast. The Americans then ordered that oil be poured over the overgrowth in order to kill the roots of the grasses and reeds and prevent their further regrowth.

Al-Fallujah.

The Quds Press correspondent reported a number of residents of the az-Zaytun neighborhood, which is located near the notorious American prison, as saying that rockets slammed into the prison after news spread that puppet Iraqi army forces had gone inside. Afterwards, swarms of US helicopters flew in over the facility and several ambulances were seen evacuating casualties out the front gate of the prison.

The Quds Press reported said that the Americans had shifted all their Iraqi prisoners out of Abu Ghurayb several months ago, distributing them various other American-run prison camps such as Camp Bucca and the al-Kut prison in the south of the country and the prison in the Shi‘i Baghdad district of al-Kazimiyah. The al-Kazimiyah prison has been turned into a base jointly used by US and puppet Iraqi forces.

Jalal as-Saghir is a member of the puppet “Iraqi Parliament” and head of the Buratha Shi‘i Mosque, which has long been a center for the torture and murder of Sunnis in Baghdad.

In a bid to rein in Iranian-backed deathsquads, US troops raided Buratha on Wednesday, 14 February, releasing 12 Sunni torture victims and discovering the bodies of six more. The US troops also marked the suspected graves of at least another 40 victims of the notorious sectarian torture center.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of the ar-Rahmaniyah district of central Baghdad as saying that Jalal as-Saghir had disappeared from view on the day that US forces raided the Buratha Mosque and torture center. The residents said that as-Saghir had returned home to Iran. Some others said that as-Saghir had just gone to the Shi‘i shrine city of an-Najaf to hide until the US “security campaign” in Baghdad had blown over.

Residents said that Jalal as-Saghir had failed yesterday to deliver his Friday sermon as he usually did and had closed the Buratha Mosque and torture center in protest against the American raid.

Eight US troops reported killed on relatively “quiet Saturday” in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 9:30pm Makkah time Saturday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Baghdad was relatively quiet on Saturday with no car bombs or unknown bodies being discovered. Witnesses said that the other soldiers began to try to take cover, leaving the body of their comrade in the middle of the street. At that point a second bullet from the sharpshooter’s gun struck another one of the Americans in his shoulder, wounding him. The US troops called in reinforcements that arrived instantly.

On Friday the Americans acknowledged that one US soldier had been killed near his vehicle in the city of Ba‘qubah.

The source said that the American “security operation” left numerous civilians dead and a number of civilian homes destroyed. A large number of people whom the US forces accused of taking part in Resistance operations were arrested.

Eyewitnesses reported that all those who were arrested were simple townspeople who had no links with armed operations against the US or puppet regime forces. At-Ta’mim Province.
Kirkuk.

Resistance bombs in Kirkuk target bus terminals used for the forcible eviction of Sunni Arabs from Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 2:08pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombs exploded by offices for ground transport whose aim is to facilitate the forced eviction of Sunni Arabs from the oil-rich city of Kirkuk. The US-installed Shi ‘ sectarian regime has ordered the expulsion of all Arab Sunnis from the city under a law on the so-called “normalization of the situation in Kirkuk.” Sunni Arabs make up the largest population bloc in the city followed by Kurds, and then much smaller communities of Turkomans and Arab Shi‘ah. Kurdish separatists seek to take over the city and annex it to the separatist Kurdish enclave in northern Iraq.

The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombs went off in the Rahim Awah area 15 minutes before a batch of expelled Sunni Arabs arrived to be driven out of the city. The correspondent reported that 81 Kurds and Shi‘i sectarian members of the pro-American “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)” were killed or wounded in the blast.

A medical source told Mafkarat al-Islam that as of that hour, 12 people were listed as having been killed and 69 others wounded in the blast, most of those in serious condition. The source said that among the dead were a number of Shi ‘ sectarian officials who were supervising the forced expulsion of Arab Sunnis from the areas of al-Huwayjah and al-‘Ubayd near Kirkuk.

The correspondent refuted claims made by the Shi‘i sectarian media and mainstream Arab satellite networks to the effect that among the dead and wounded were women and children. The correspondent noted that Kirkuk Hospital and the “1st of March” Hospital received only males − Kurds and Shi‘i sectarians − wounded in the blast.
