Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Hadithah.

Masked armed men order residents of al-Hadithah to take down satellite TV dishes.

In a dispatch posted at 5:44pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that masked fighters moved through the streets of the city of al-Hadithah, about 270km northwest of Baghdad starting on Thursday morning telling homeowners to take down the satellite dishes from roofs of their houses and ordering them not to watch satellite TV.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported the armed men were threatening anyone who disobeyed the orders with being brought before one of their courts. Residents of the ash-Shurtah, al-‘Allawi, and al-Mu ‘allimin neighborhoods said that the armed men told them that they had received orders to ban satellite TV from homes on the grounds that they spread corruption. The correspondent reported that residents were thus compelled to take down their satellite dishes.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance blasts US al-Habbaniyah base with mortars, rockets Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 4:12pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired seven mortar shells and four rockets at the US base in al-Habbaniyah, 70km west of Baghdad at about 8am local time Thursday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses who belong to the al-Bu Bali tribe near the base as saying that the attack sent plumes of smoke rising from the northern and eastern parts of the facility. Sirens could be heard wailing inside the base after the attack as helicopters flew in to prowl the area. The al-Qa‘idah organization known as the “Islamic State of Iraq” claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ar-Rutbah.

Sufi Shaykh murdered in ar-Rutbah Wednesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 3:56pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that armed men shot and killed Shaykh Ahmad al-Kubaysi, a Sufi religious leader in his home in ar-Rutbah in western Iraq near the Jordanian border at dawn on Wednesday.

The ar-Rutbah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source as saying that al-Kubaysi, who was the Imam of the al-Furqan Mosque was attacked by masked gunmen in his home at dawn on Wednesday. The attackers sprayed him with bullets, killing him on the spot. The source, who asked not to be identified, said that al-Kubaysi was the last of the Sufi Shaykhs in ar-Rutbah and that he delivered the sermon at an old mosque in the middle of town.

Baghdad.

Resistance bomb severely wounds No. 2 man in Nuri al-Maliki’s party.

In a bulletin posted at 4:18pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Abu ‘Uqayl al-Musawi, the No. 2 man in the Shi‘i sectarian Da‘wah Party − of which puppet “Prime Minister” Nuri al-Maliki is a leader, had just been seriously wounded when an Iraqi Resistance bomb went off by his motorcade in the Jisr Diyala area of eastern Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet security source as saying that the bomb went off by the car carrying al-Musawi in a procession of seven vehicles. US and puppet Iraqi forces surrounded the area and al-Musawi was taken by ambulance to the top security area around the Republican Palace − dubbed the “Green Zone” by the Americans. He had suffered injuries to his head and shoulder.

Two US Marines reported killed in Baghdad bombing Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 3:57pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a high-explosive Iraqi Resistance bomb went off by an American Humvee in the al-Washshash area near the old Nylon mill in Baghdad on Thursday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Major Shakir Khalil of the puppet 1st Emergency unit in Baghdad as saying that the high-yield bomb destroyed a Humvee and killed two US Marines. Three other Marines were pulled from the vehicle with severe injuries. One of them had lost his eyes and had serious wounds to his back and abdomen, the other lost his arm. At the time of reporting, Major al-Khalil said that the Americans were still surrounding the area.

Resistance rocket attack forces end to meeting of UN Secretary General with puppet Iraqi “Prime Minister” in “Green Zone” Thursday.

In a dispatch posted Thursday, Quds Press reported that a short while earlier a rocket had landed near the place where visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was holding meetings with the American-appointed “Prime Minister” of Iraq Nuri al-Maliki. Live television broadcasts showed the rocket attack shaking the meeting hall inside the top-security so-called “Green Zone” where the meeting was under way.

Quds Press reported that the strike appeared to be very close and it compelled the UN Secretary General to duck behind the podium while giving a speech on the preparations for an international conference on Iraq. The puppet “Prime Minister” cut short the meeting and quickly left the hall.

The American Associated Press (AP) reported that the missile exploded “right after al-Maliki, standing next to Ban, had finished telling reporters that Ban’s visit was a sign that Iraq was on the road to stability.”

Quds Press reported sources as saying that the UN General Secretary and the puppet “Prime Minister” were holed up inside the conference building for “security reasons” and that US forces were attempting to secure a safe exit for them from the area. American Apache helicopter gun ships prowled the skies over the area following the attack.

US blockades, raids districts in western Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 12:58pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that for the second straight day US troops accompanied by their puppet Iraqi security force allies were blockading the western Baghdad areas of al-Ghazaliyah and al-‘Amiriyah.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the predominantly Sunni al-Ghazaliyah and al-‘Amiriyah districts as saying that US and puppet forces carried out an extensive campaign of raids, searches, and arrests targeting numerous houses in the areas and arresting a number of local men and youths.

The American operations are a part of the Bush − al-Maliki “New Security Plan” for Baghdad, now in its second month, that has primarily targeted Sunni areas for raids and mass arrests while leaving the strongholds of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and their leaders untouched despite their well-known involvement in thousands of cases of sectarian abductions, torture, and murder. Many have concluded that the sectarian violence is in fact part of the US plan, in keeping with outlines drawn up repeatedly by Zionist and American think tanks since the 1980s.

Puppet “Iraqi Prime Minister” releases Muqtada as-Sadr supporter as al-Maliki reaffirms close ties with Shi‘i sectarian cleric.

In a dispatch posted Thursday, Quds Press reported that US-appointed Iraqi puppet “Prime Minister” Nuri al-Maliki had ordered the release of a prominent supporter of pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr, Shaykh Ahmad ash-Shaybani, who was arrested after fighting in an-Najaf in 2004.

Ash-Shaybani was arrested by the Americans in the period before the as-Sadr Movement lined up with other Shi‘i sectarian groups to support the American occupation and join the puppet government in 2005.

Quds Press reported a source in al-Maliki’s office as saying that ash-Shaybani was released on Wednesday at the request of the puppet “Prime Minister,” who then received ash-Shaybani in his office.

Quds Press reported observers as saying that the release of ash-Shaybani was a part of an effort by the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), the Da‘wah Party (of which al-Maliki is a leader), and other Shi‘i sectarian parties in the ruling coalition to mend fences with the Muqtada as-Sadr Movement after they went along with an American show of operations against Sadr’s Jaysh al-Mahdi. The Americans carried out sweeps in which low-ranking Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen were picked up. Most were later released as the operation was largely designed to make the Shi‘i sectarian regime appear “even handed” when genuine military campaigns against the Iraqi Resistance in predominantly Sunni areas continued apace. Sectarian murders of Sunnis by the Jaysh al-Mahdi are also on the increase as the US “New Security Plan” enters its second month.

Puppet police captain gunned down in drive-by attack Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 12:08pm Makkah time midday Thursday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that armed men killed an officer in the Iraqi puppet police in western Baghdad on Thursday morning.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that unknown men in a civilian car opened fire with light machine guns on the car carrying Husayn ‘Abdallah, a captain in the puppet police in the al-Mansur area. The source said that at the time Captain ‘Abdallah was off duty at the time.

Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen kidnap woman, two daughters in Baghdad Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 11:56am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militias kidnapped an Iraqi woman and her two daughters in southwestern Baghdad on Wednesday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the al-‘Amil neighborhood of southwestern Baghdad as saying that a group of armed Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen abducted Umm Mukhlis and two of her daughters after they got out of a taxi in the area. The sectarian gunmen took them off to an unknown destination.

The pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia carries out kidnappings and mass killings of Sunnis with the support of the American-installed Shi‘i sectarian regime as the US forces deliberately look the other way, the correspondent noted.

In its account of the abduction, Quds Press noted that the Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen were able to kidnap the three women despite tight US and puppet regime security measures in force in the al-‘Amil district.

US troops continue to deploy in al-Hurriyah district of Baghdad for third straight day.

In a dispatch posted at 11:28am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces continued to deploy in the al-Hurriyah section of northern Baghdad for the third straight day.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that US forces carried out foot patrols and armored patrols in various parts of al-Hurriyah, but made no raids or arrests. The deployment follows clashes that took place on Monday and Tuesday between US troops and armed fighters in the ad-Dawli‘i area, a district that separates al-Hurriyah from ash-Shu‘lah, in which a number of civilians were killed or wounded.

Witnesses describe the situation in al-Hurriyah as extremely tense as the Americans continue to deploy in the area.

US, puppet troops surround, search Umm al-Qura Mosque in Baghdad, headquarters of Association of Muslim Scholars − supreme Sunni religious authority in Iraq.

In a dispatch posted at 11:23am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces accompanied by puppet “Iraqi National Guards” surrounded the Umm al-Qura Mosque, the headquarters of the Association of Muslim Scholars − the highest Sunni Muslim religious authority in Iraq − and proceeded to search it.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that US troops and their puppet allies surrounded the mosque at about 4am Thursday morning. After that, the puppet “National Guards were sent in to search as their American commanders remained surrounding the mosque outside. The puppet troops searched the mosque, all parts of the Association’s general headquarters, ancillary buildings, and the camps and headquarters of the mosque guards.

The puppet troops searched the mosque’s public address system and confiscated weapons and a group of formatted discs from the guards posted at the station. Eyewitnesses said that the puppet forces took down complete information on the guards, including their names, details listed on their IDs, car license numbers and descriptions.

The Umm al-Qura Mosque and headquarters of the Association of Muslim Scholars are targeted for such assaults from time to time because the organization is known for its support of the Iraqi Resistance and rejection of the US occupation. In recent days, the Association has been calling on the Resistance to unify its ranks under one single banner.

Explosions rock northern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 11:17am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that three explosions rocked northeastern parts of Baghdad on Thursday morning, one of them wounding four people.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that the three explosions went off in succession in the Ur neighborhood of northeastern Baghdad, one of them being a bomb that wounded four people by preliminary count. At the time of reporting, no information on the other blasts was available.

The explosions coincided with raids being carried out by US troops and their puppet Iraqi army allies in a massive “security” operation in the al-Ghazaliyah and al-‘Amiriyah areas of western Baghdad in which house-to-house searches have been conducted and 31 people arrested.

Diyala Province.
Shahraban.

Beheaded body of Iranian Revolutionary Guard found in Shahraban.

In a dispatch posted at 9:32pm Makkah time Thursday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi puppet police found the beheaded body of an Iranian in a public square in the middle of the town of Shahraban, 85km north of Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source and official at Shahraban General Hospital as saying in a telephone interview that the body belonged to a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard by the name of Mahmud Rida Asfahan. The source said that the body was found on the square near the old Shahraban municipality building. The man’s severed head was found next to the body and his passport was left on his chest.

The medical source said that US occupation forces and puppet Iraqi army troops showed up at the hospital to investigate the find.

At-Ta’mim Province.
Kirkuk.

Armed attack south of Kirkuk leaves two dead.

In a dispatch posted at 1:49pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that unknown armed men attacked a civilian car south of Kirkuk in northern Iraq, killing two Iraqi men inside.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that unknown armed men in two cars opened fire with light machine guns on a civilian car carrying two people from the villages of Ghaydah and Shubayjah in the Daquq area south of Kirkuk. The source said that the attackers quickly left the scene. Puppet police patrols found a disabled near the scene and speculated that it might have been one of the attack cars that was abandoned when it broke down.

Civilian reported killed in mysterious bombing in Kirkuk late Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:55am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a bomb exploded by a civilian car in the northern city of Kirkuk on Wednesday night.

The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that a bomb that had been planted in the at-Tayran Square area near the ‘Abd ar-Rahman al-Ghafiqi Mosque in the north of the city went off late on Wednesday night when a civilian car was driving past. The source said that the blast killed one person and wounded seven other civilians. The wounded were immediately taken to hospital.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

With Shi‘i sectarian parties battling for control of al-Basrah as British forces depart, local member of puppet “Governing Council” and woman activist is killed in her home.

In a dispatch posted at 1:28pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that armed men assassinated a member of the puppet Provincial Governing Council of al-Basrah on Wednesday night in an attack on her house in the western part of the city.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that unknown armed men shot and killed Tuhfah al-Bajjari after storming her house in the al-Jam‘iyat area in western al-Basrah.

The source said that al-Bajjari was a member of the puppet “Governing Council” and sister of Baslam al-Bajjari another member on the same Council. Tuhfat al-Bajjari was seen as one of the leading women’s activists in al-Basrah and a leader of a civil society organization in the city.

The southern city has been the scene of fighting among Shi‘i sectarian parties in recent days − in particular between the Jaysh al-Mahdi of Muqtada as-Sadr on one side, and the Fadilah (Virtue) party on the other in an apparent bid by both to take over control of the city as British forces depart.

Five prisoners reported shot and wounded by British guards in uprising in ash-Shu‘aybah Prison in western al-Basrah Wednesday night.

In a dispatch posted at 12:56pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fighting took place between British occupation troops and inmates in a prison to the west of the southern city of al-Basrah Wednesday night.

The al-Basrah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet “Governing Council” of al-Basrah as saying that there had been fighting between prisoners held in the ash-Shu‘aybah prison in western al-Basrah and British guards at the facility. Five of the prisoners were wounded by British gunfire, the source said.

The source said that the fighting was accompanied by other forms of unrest and protest by the prisoners, who set fire to some tents. The source failed to indicate the reason for the uprising.

Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian gunmen battle Shi‘i Virtue Party gunmen in al-Basrah, as Shi‘i sectarian ranks continue to split.

In a dispatch posted at 11:54am Makkah time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militiamen attacked the headquarters of the Shi‘i Fadilah (Virtue) party in the southern city of al-Basrah and there were reports of casualties in the incident.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that several explosions went off and extremely intense gunfire from light and medium weapons could be heard coming from the party headquarters in the al-Jaza’ir neighborhood of central al-Basrah.

Preliminary reports indicated that the attack had inflicted casualties but their nature and extent were unknown at the time of reporting. The local puppet police had made no comment on the fighting.

The Shi‘i Fadilah (Islamic Virtue) Party, which has 15 seats in the puppet “Iraqi Parliament,” announced its withdrawal from the ruling Shi‘i sectarian “United Iraqi Alliance,” which is dominated by the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) led by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim and by the movement of Muqtada as-Sadr and follows the inspiration of Iranian cleric Ayatallah ‘Ali as-Sistani.

On 7 March 2007, the Virtue Party held a press conference in Baghdad to announce its withdrawal from the ruling coalition, saying that it had been transformed into a “hatemongering sectarian bloc.”

In a dispatch posted at 12:53pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fire was blazing in the Virtue Party headquarters after violent clashes with Jaysh al-Mahdi attackers.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that there were cars blazing in front of the headquarters, which had been severely damaged in the attack.

Sources in al-Basrah Teaching Hospital said that dozens of wounded people had been brought into their facility following the assault on the headquarters but no precise numbers were available.

Other reports came in that a parallel attack was underway against the home of the puppet “governor” of al-Basrah, Muhammad Musbih al-Wa’ili who is a member of the Fadilah Party.

The correspondent reported that violent fighting erupted on Thursday morning when Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen tried to storm the Electricity Distribution Department near the al-Basrah Provincial Government building in an attempt to take over there. A detachment of armed members of the Fadilah Party resisted the Jaysh al-Mahdi assault, preventing their getting into the building but inflicting casualties in the process.
