Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.

Resistance ambushes US patrol in al-Fallujah Saturday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 11:13am Makkah time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters prepared an ambush for a US patrol in western al-Fallujah on Saturday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that a group of Resistance fighters armed with light and medium machine guns ambushed a US patrol as it emerged from its military base in the ar-Risalah neighborhood in western al-Fallujah. The puppet police source said that a violent battle raged for about 15 minutes in which there probably were casualties among the Americans. After the Resistance men left the area, US troops completely closed off the area of the main street in the city.

Baghdad.

Zionist newspaper Haaretz opens bureau in occupied Baghdad, tries to recruit Iraqi journalists with high pay.

In a dispatch posted at 5:35pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Zionist newspaper Haaretz opened a bureau for itself in Baghdad last week, the second such Haaretz bureau in occupied Iraq − the first being located in Irbil, in the northern part of the country dominated by pro-American Kurdish separatists.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi Journalists Union, who asked not to be identified, as saying that Haaretz chose the al-Hamra’ Hotel in al-Jadiriyah as its fixed headquarters. There they have set up a staff of six journalists, including one woman. The office director is a man named David Hamun, the source said, adding that the post is guarded by special guards who protect foreign journalists, probably also “Isreaelis.”

The source said that the Haaretz office is currently engaged in trying to recruit and win over Iraqi journalists from the Sunni provinces to work with them, but are finding the effort to be difficult, as most Sunnis refuse to cooperate with them, despite the large and attractive salaries that the Zionist paper dangles in their faces.

The source denounced the position of the Iraqi puppet regime for giving the green light to the Zionists to set up the headquarters, which he called “an intelligence office, not a journalistic bureau.” He also expressed the opinion that the presence of the office does harm to journalism in Iraq.

Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen return to checkpoints; sectarian torture, murder resume after US publicity stunt of “cracking down on militias” runs its course.

In a dispatch posted Sunday morning Quds Press reported that armed pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen are now reappearing in Baghdad after having to go underground of get out of town briefly while US forces made a temporary publicity show of “cracking down” on the sectarian militia and its death squads.

A puppet security source said that they had received intelligence confirming that Jaysh al-Mahdi members had returned to Baghdad from Iran and southern Iraqi cities. Most were gathered in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah and in the district of ash-Shu‘lah, while only a few had so far returned to the so-called “Madinat as-Sadr” area.

In an exclusive interview with Quds Press the source said that a number of Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen were seen out with their weapons − which they had buried in a number of places in ash-Shu‘lah and ad-Durah, and particularly in the Abu Dushayr area. Many of the sectarian militiamen had brought in new quantities of arms and it was expected that sectarian battles and killings would be resuming in the areas to which the Jaysh al-Mahdi men were returning.

Residents of the al-Ghazaliyah district of Baghdad, which is not far from ash-Shu‘lah, reported that the road blocks that the Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian gunmen used to put up near the highway bridge in ash-Shu‘lah have now reappeared as they were before the symbolic American “crack down,” and the Jaysh al-Mahdi has resumed where they left off, abducting and murdering people solely on the basis of whether their IDs list them as Sunnis or not.

Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen attacked the Khadijah bint Khuwaylid Mosque in the al-Muwasalat neighborhood of southwestern Baghdad on Saturday, and burned it completely to the ground.

Also, in the last few days, 70 bodies have been found in various parts of Baghdad − as they regularly were found before the superficial American “crack down on militias” which was a much touted part of the “New Security Plan” loudly proclaimed in the US media.

Many observers have linked the resumption of death squad activity and the reappearance of tortured murdered bodies in Baghdad as a further indication that the Jaysh al-Mahdi is back.
