Al-Anbar Province.
Ar-Ramadi.

After population refuses to sell out Resistance men, US conducts mass raids, arrests in ar-Ramadi Sunday afternoon, rounding up 50 people between the ages of 14 and 60.

In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi puppet police have declared that US troops accompanied by their Iraqi puppet army allies has been carrying out a campaign of raids and arrests in the neighborhoods of al-Iskan and ad-Dubbat and in the 20 Street area for two hours as of the time of reporting.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported puppet police sources in ar-Ramadi as saying that American fighter planes and helicopter gun ships are also involved in the campaign, providing air cover for the US and puppet Iraqi forces. More than 50 local residents, ranging in age from 14 to 60 years, have been arrested so far.

Local residents told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans took their victims off to the US base located to the west of ar-Ramadi. The residents said that the Americans were carrying out the campaign to take revenge against local people who rejected American offers of large sums of money in exchange for information on “wanted” Resistance fighters.

Baghdad.

US admits six soldiers killed on Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 12:30am Baghdad time Monday morning, 9 April 2007, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the US military admitted that six of its soldiers had been killed and four more wounded on Sunday in various attacks in Iraq.

AMSI reported an American communique´ as saying that three US troops were killed and a fourth wounded when a bomb exploded by their patrol in southern Baghdad on Sunday, 8 April. A separate statement announced that one American had been killed and three more of them wounded in a mortar attack to the south of Baghdad, also on Sunday.

In two other US communique´s the American command disclose that two other US soldiers had died of wounds received in military operations in Salah ad-Din and Diyala Provinces north and east of Baghdad.

Earlier in the day, the US admitted the deaths of four American soldiers on Saturday (see story below).

Shi‘i sectarian gunmen blast Sunni mosque, shoot down woman in Baghdad’s al-‘Amil district.

In a dispatch posted at 12:06am Baghdad time Monday morning, 9 April 2007, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that several mortar shells blasted into the Sunni Mosque of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq in the al-‘Amil section of Baghdad on Sunday afternoon.

A correspondent for AMSI reported that five mortar shells slammed into the Abu Bakr Mosque and the surrounding area, wounding several local people.

The Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque has come under frequent assault by Shi‘i sectarian militias that have succeeded in destroying all the other Sunni mosques in al-‘Amil. The Shi‘i sectarian militias, in cooperation with the US-imposed Shi‘i sectarian puppet regime, have been working to bring about the expulsion of Sunnis from numerous mixed districts of Baghdad in accordance with long-cherished US and Zionist plans to partition Iraq on ethnic and sectarian lines.

In a related incident, a Shi‘i sectarian militia sniper shot and killed a woman in the al-Jannabiyin area. AMSI reported that Shi‘i sectarian gunmen wander the al-‘Amil area randomly attacking Sunnis in a continuing effort to force Sunnis to leave the neighborhood.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.

US admits four American troops killed in bomb explosion in Diyala Province Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 7:15pm Makkah time Sunday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US announced on Sunday that four of its occupation troops had been killed when an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded near their vehicle in Diyala Province, east of Baghdad on Saturday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Americans issued a communique´ in which they said that the blast also wounded one American soldier.

In keeping with the standard American practice of secrecy, the US statement provided no further details of the location or circumstances of the attack.

US soldier reported killed in Resistance bombing in southern Baghdad Sunday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 3:30pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded in the Shaykh Salsal area of southern Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local sources as saying that a high explosive bomb that had been hidden under a sewer opening in the middle of an unpaved road leading to the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah bluew up under a US vehicle. The blast disabled the vehicle, killing one American soldier and wounding three more of them, one of those extremely severely. The sources said that the Resistance group the Army of the Mujahideen in Iraq took responsibility for the attack.

Bodies of 17 more torture, murder victims found in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 3:48pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that 17 bodies of murder victims have been found dumped in various neighborhoods of US-occupied Baghdad. A large number of the remains were found in the al-‘Amil neighborhood in western Baghdad, and in the neighborhoods of ad-Dushayr and ash-Shu‘lah in the southern part of the city.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source as saying that the bodies showed signs of torture and had been shot in the head. One of the victims was identified as ‘Uthman al-Mashhadani, an Iraqi journalist.

Torture is a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed puppet security forces, many of whose members concurrently belong to the sectarian gangs.

Identity documents found on the bodies indicated that they were religious scholars, journalists, seven university students, one government employee, and several workers.

Shaykh Harith ad-Darri: secret services of US, UK, “Israel,” and Iraq work round the clock to stir up sectarian fighting in Iraq.

In a dispatch posted at 1:42pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Shaykh Harith ad-Darri, the Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq, the highest Sunni Muslim religious authority in the country, declared that Iranian, “Israeli,” and British secret services were meddling in Iraq at the present time and were constantly trying to blow the situation in plotting that goes on round the clock.

The newspaper al-Khabar, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported Shaykh ad-Darri as saying that the US occupation forces in Iraq are behind the discord [“fitnah”] through which the country is currently going. He said they use their mercenaries and the secret services that the Americans have brought into the country to spread this discord, by paying off some Iraqis of weak character to go kill their countrymen. The US agents incite the Iraqi political parties, which orbit like satellites around the occupation and take orders from it, to spread sectarian division in order to serve their narrow interests, the Shaykh said.

Last Tuesday Shaykh ad-Darri told a press conference in Cairo that Iraq is going through the most difficult days in its history. He said that the “Security Campaign” that the US is implementing in Baghdad is not aimed at uprooting “terrorism”; terrorism has been in use by the occupation against the Iraqi people for four years.

The Shaykh said that the “Security Plan,” which is being implemented without any protest around the world is an act of revenge against all those who oppose the occupation on the pretext of “fighing terrorism.” “What terrorism is greater than the terrorism of the occupation that kills peaceful people and destroys their homes, villages, and cities?” Shaykh ad-Darri asked.

The Shaykh asked people to pay attention to the nature of the human tragedy that the Iraqi people are enduring because of this “Security Plan” noting that Iraq today, “is a vast prison, a graveyard that is devouring thousands, indeed, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis now buried in mass graves because of the mass slaughters committed by the occupation and the regime that supports it and shares its goals. Those goals being to silence the any voice of opposition and to put an end to the Iraqi people’s Resistance to the occupation.”

Mysterious car bombing kills five midday Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 1:18pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that five people were killed and 20 more wounded when a car bomb exploded in the al-I‘lam neighborhood of Baghdad at midday Sunday.

AMSI reported a puppet police source as saying that an explosives-packed car being driven by someone blew up in a popular market in the neighborhood. The puppet security man added that the blast also inflicted damage to a number of stores in the market and that the final casualty toll might still rise.

AMSI reported a puppet police source as syaing that the blast killed one puppet policeman and wounded seven others. The explosion damaged several patrol cars and nearby buildings.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Samarra’.

Puppet troops force 12-year-old boy to pick up bomb, causing his death in Samarra’.

In a dispatch posted at 3:13pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported thatthe puppet Iraqi regime forces that are blockading the city of Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad, force a boy to pick up a bomb, which then exploded and killed him, according to reports by eyewitnesses.

AMSI reported the witnesses as saying that the puppet troops on a patrol in one of the streets of Samarra’ forced a 12-year-old boy to carry a bomb. The device exploded, killing the boy.

This was not the first such instance of the practice. Puppet troops of the al-Muthanna Brigades of the puppet “National Guard forced three high school students in Abu Ghurayb to pick up a black bag containing a bomb, causing it to explode and kill them.

Meanwhile, US troops declared a kind of curfew regime in Samarra’ − ordering that until further notice the curfew would be in force in the city every other day − each day on which freedom of movement is allowed will be followed by one on which people are confined to their homes. For some time Samarra’ has been the target of a major campaign by US and puppet forces ostensibly hunting for Iraqi Resistance fighters.

In a dispatch posted at 8:33pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the town of ad-Dulu‘iyah, 90km north of Baghdad, Saturday night.

AMSI reported a puppet police source in the city as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the side of a road near the ad-Dulu‘iyah Bridge to the west of the city went off by a passing American patrol late on Saturday night. The explosion destroyed one Humvee, killing or wounding all the Americans aboard, the source said, adding that then the American survivors opened fire indiscriminately around the area and helicopters and fighter planes flew in and prowled the skies overhead for several hours.

In a dispatch posted at 8:20pm Baghdad time Sunday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the midday bombing that struck a residential building in the city of al-Mahmudiyah, 25km south of Baghdad at midday Sunday had left 17 dead and 30 wounded.

AMSI reported a puppet police source as saying that all the victims were civilians

In a dispatch posted at 12:13pm Makkah time midday Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam had reported that at least 15 people were killed and another 25 wounded in an explosion in the city of al-Mahmudiyah, about 25km south of Baghdad, on Sunday.

Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported Yahya Najm, an official with al-Mahmudiyah General Hospital, as saying that in addition to the 15 dead received by his hospital, there were still people buried under the rubble.

Iraqi puppet security sources said that the explosion was the result of a Katyusha rocket impact, but Mu’ayyid al-‘Amiri, the head of the puppet municipal council, said that a car bomb blew up by an industrial workshop. He said that 17 people were killed and 26 others wounded and that a multi-story building was completely demolished.

An American spokesman said that preliminary information suggested that the blast was the result of a bomb planted by the side of the road.

AMSI reported Sunday evening that eyewitnesses in the city said that the blast came from a car that had been parked near the building by unknown persons.

At-Ta’mim Province.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the blast, which occurred near a truck stop, left eight Peshmergan gunmen dead or wounded. Arab residents who were near the scene said that the explosives-laden car had been parked by the side of the road and blew up when the Peshmergah militiamen passed by on one of their routine patrols.

Al-Qadisiyah Province.

Military operations by US, puppet troops in ad-Diwaniyah leave seven dead.

In a dispatch posted at 9:35am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported a medical source in ad-Diwaniyah, 120km south of Baghdad, as saying that the number of victims of the US military operations in the city had risen to seven dead and 25 wounded. Some of them were killed when the troops were shooting indiscriminately around the area, the source said.

AMSI reported that ambulances and medical personnel were having difficulty getting to the “hot” areas in order to recover the dead and wounded and that the US and puppet forces had been inhibiting medical workers from doing their jobs by interfering and trying to distinguish between injured civilians and injured fighters. The source said that because of this, at least one civilian had died from loss of blood, having been gunned down by indiscriminate gunfire.

Quds Press indicated that pro-Iranian gunmen of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, loyal to Shi‘i sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr, have been behind the outbreak of fighting.

The Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, run by Muqtada as-Sadr, who is linked to the “conservative” party of Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Najad, is seeking to extend Iranian-dominated regional hegemony and step into the shoes of the American occupation in Iraq as it leaves under the blows of the Iraqi Resistance.

An-Najaf Province.
An-Najaf.

Pro-American Shi‘i sectarian religious authority Ayatallah as-Sistani hospitalized in an-Najaf.

In a dispatch posted at 6:15pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported medical sources as saying that the health of pro-American Shi‘i sectarian religious authority Ayatallah ‘Ali as-Sistani dramatically deteriorated on Sunday morning and the Iranian-born cleric was rushed by ambulance to an-Najaf General Hospital.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a physician in an-Najaf Hospital who asked to remain anonymous as saying that as-Sistani is suffering from severe difficulty in breathing and has an elevated heart rate, which caused him to lose consciousness twice Sunday morning.

The source said that the Iranian cleric is currently in intensive care and has a whole team of medical experts tending to him. The source said it was unlikely that his condition was life threatening.

The source said that as-Sistani’s office was trying very hard to conceal the news of the cleric’s hospitalization, lest that have an effect on the rival forces within the Shi‘i sectarian movement.

As-Sistani was born in Mashhad, Iran, on 4 August 1930 and succeeded Abu al-Qasim al-Khu’i as leader of the an-Najaf Shi‘i religious district, the most important district in the Shi‘i world for Twelver Shi‘i religious study.

An Iranian of Farsi nationality, as-Sistani has no Iraqi identity documents and publicly refused to take Iraqi citizenship when the puppet “Iraqi National Assembly” awarded it to him.

On the eve of the American invasion of Iraq in March 2003, as-Sistani issued a religious ruling (“fatwa”) saying that it was impermissible for Shi‘ah to put up any resistance to the American and British invaders − a ruling that let to the collapse of whole areas of southern Iraq, one after the other, to the occupying armies and prepared the way for the US offensive on Baghdad.

Muqtada as-Sadr gunmen plan demo in an-Najaf Monday to show strength before rival Shi‘i factions.

In a dispatch posted at 8:08 GMT Sunday, Quds Press reported that thousands of pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen were being trucked from Baghdad to an-Najaf to take part in demonstrations on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the US occupation of Baghdad, observed on Monday.

A source in the Baghdad office of Shi‘i sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr told Quds Press that thousands of gunmen loyal to as-Sadr were being trucked to the Shi‘i holy city to take part in a “Million man march” that the cleric has called for in an attempt to demonstrate his power within the puppet government and Shi‘i sectarian establishment that has been collaborating with the US occupation, in the expectation that when the Americans depart the Shi‘i clerical parties with their Iranian-backed militias and puppet security forces will step into the Americans’ shoes. The as-Sadr partisans are to take to the streets of an-Najaf on Monday to call for the departure of the Americans and the transfer of the country to them.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

US, British consulates pounded by mortars before dawn Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 12:46pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US and British consulates in al-Basrah, 550km southeast of Baghdad, came under an intense mortar barrage at 2am Sunday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the city as saying that several mortar shells slammed into the headquarters in the former presidential palaces along the Shatt al-‘Arab waterway where the US and Britain have their consulates. The shells produced powerful explosions that shook the area as sirens began to wail inside the Anglo-American facilities.

The barrage was resumed then at 3am and helicopter gun ships came in to prowl the skies over the area. The Anglo-American occupation forces had made no statement regarding the attacks as of the time of reporting.
