The current reality is punctuated by the absence of a sense of security, the break up of the Iraqi family, an increase in divorce, the spread of administrative corruption, attacks on public property, and an increase in the crimes of theft, armed robbery, kidnapping, and rape.

Dr. Mustafa said that the number of widows in the country since 2003 was 560,000. He said that the divorce had risen 200 percent over the years 2003 − 2006 and that marriages had dropped by 50 percent, according to the puppet regime’s “Minsitry of Justice.”

Demonstration against puppet governor in al-Basrah highlights intra-Shi‘i rivalries.

In a dispatch posted at 3:59pm Baghdad time Monday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that demonstrators took to the streets of al-Basrah demanding the resignation of the local puppet governor in an outbreak of intra-Shi‘i political rivalry.

The AMSI reported that local Shi‘i sectarian political forces launched a demonstration near the Grand Mosque in the center of the city on Monday morning. The protestors marched from there to the Provincial government building to demand that puppet Governor Muhammad Musbih al-Wa’ili resign. The demonstration was called by the pro-American Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) whose 30,000 man Badr Brigade helped in the US occupation of Iraq in 2003 and has since become the backbone of the regime’s security forces. The puppet governor of al-Basrah is a member of the Shi‘i al-Fadilah (Virtue) Party. The al-Fadilah Party was formerly a member of the coalition dominated by SCIRI, but the party leader, fed up with the highly sectarian course of the SCIRI-led “United Iraqi Alliance” coalition dropped out of the coalition on 7 March 2007, denouncing it as a “hatemongering sectarian bloc.”

Since then both the SCIRI and the forces of pro-Iranian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr have attempted to push al-Fadilah governor out of power and replace him with one of their men. At times this effort has been one of violent street battles. On Monday it consisted of a large demonstration.
