Resistance fighters ambush puppet troops in al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 12:05 GMT on Thursday, Quds Press reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters battled puppet Iraqi army forces in al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad.

Quds Press reported a puppet police source in al-Fallujah as saying that a detachment of Resistance fighters ambushed a puppet army patrol in the al-Jawlan neighborhood of western al-Fallujah, sparking a violent battle.

The fighting continued for about half an hour, during which time several puppet troops were killed or wounded, the source said. US forces then appeared on the scene and the Resistance fighters slipped away.

Local residents said that the puppet army troops then attacked the local people, beating up residents and setting ablaze four private cars that belong to people living in the neighborhood where the battle took place. Most of the puppet army troops stationed in al-Fallujah are Shi‘ah, many recruited from sectarian militias trained in Iran and known for their intense hatred of the Sunni Iraqi population. Residents of al-Fallujah have filed numerous complaints about the sectarian behavior of the puppet forces deployed in the city.

Under heavy escort, US Defense Secretary visits al-Fallujah, flying in from Tel Aviv.

In a dispatch posted at 5:03GMT on Thursday, Quds Press reported that US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates had flown to occupied Iraq from “Israel” on a surprise visit and had paid a visit to the city of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad.

Quds Press reported high-placed sources in the Iraqi puppet administration as saying that the US Secretary of Defense arrived in Baghdad from Tel Aviv and then boarded a helicopter that flew, under fighter escort, to al-Fallujah. There he was expected to meet with American military commanders and their local puppet allies.

The sources reported that Gates was to hold discussions with the puppet regime leaders in Baghdad concerning the “New Security Plan” for Iraq, now in its third month of implementation. The talks come a day after a spate of bombings in Baghdad that killed or wounded 450 people and brought home the total failure of the American “security” plan to “secure” even Baghdad.

The sources reported that Gates was expected to renew his call on the puppet leaders in Baghdad to speed up efforts to lure some token Sunnis into cooperation with the regime − a process the American government calls “national reconciliation” in order to provide a less embarrassing environment for an eventual US withdrawal from Iraq.
