Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.

Resistance forces ambush puppet army troops in al-Fallujah Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 11:58 GMT Wednesday, Quds Press reported that fierce fighting broke out between Iraqi Resistance men and puppet Iraqi army forces in the city of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad on Wednesday.

A puppet police source told Quds Press that Resistance forces attacked a puppet army patrol that had penetrated into the al-Yarmuk neighborhood of southern al-Fallujah. The Resistance men battled the puppet troops using light and medium weapons. The sound of explosions around the area where the combat was under way could be heard.

A Humvee belonging to the puppet forces was set ablaze and four puppet troops aboard it were killed. Surrounded by the Resistance men and facing humiliating defeat and probable annihilation, the puppet troops appealed to the US occupation forces to break through and rescue them.

When the US forces arrived in the area, the Resistance men withdrew. The Americans were then able to see to it that the wounded puppet troops could be evacuated to a nearby base.

Baghdad.

One dead, six wounded in Resistance mortar attack on “Green Zone.”

In a dispatch posted at 10:25pm Baghdad time Wednesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Iraqi Resistance fired about nine mortar rounds into the top-security area around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad − the district that US occupation troops have dubbed the “Green Zone.”

The AMSI reported the eyewitnesses as saying that the barrage set off explosions that could be heard going off in various parts of the “Zone.” AMSI also quoted a source in the puppet regime’s security services as saying that one Iraqi was killed and six other persons wounded in the Resistance bombardment on the American-controlled “Green Zone” Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 8:36pm Makkah time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported a US Embassy spokesman in Baghdad as admitting that the Resistance barrage wounded six individuals, but failed to give any further details or to acknowledge any death.

Mafkarat al-Islam noted that in recent days the Iraqi Resistance has stepped up its mortar and rocket attacks on the “Green Zone.” On Tuesday one Resistance shell blasted into the “Green Zone.”

Shi‘i sectarian murder spree back to full operation, now under US “security plan” cover.

In a dispatch posted at 11:42am Baghdad time Wednesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi puppet police recovered 15 bodies of murder victims dumped in various parts of Baghdad on Tuesday.

The AMSI reported a puppet security source as saying that most of the bodies were found in the Baghdad districts of al-Karakh − specifically: two bodies in ad-Durah, one in as-Salihiyah, two in al-Bayya‘, two in al-‘Amil, two in al-Jihad, two in as-Sayyidiyah, and one in Madinat ath-Thawrah (nicknamed “Madinat as-Sadr” since the US occupation).

The recovery of these bodies brings the total number of murder victims whose bodies have been recovered in May to 308 according to official figures issued by the puppet regime. That level of murder by the Shi‘i sectarian death squads clearly reflects the return to full activity of gunmen whose killings were the excuse used by the Bush administration for the imposition of the “troop surge” and “New Security Plan” begun nearly three months ago. After an initial drop in the activity of the Shi‘i sectarian militias, that activity has now returned to where it was prior to the American “New Security Plan” only this time under the aegis of the US security arrangements.

US admits three more of its troops killed Tuesday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:59am Baghdad time Wednesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the US occupation authorities admitted that three of its troops had been killed and eight more wounded when the Iraqi Resistance mounted two attacks on its foot patrols in different parts of Baghdad.

The AMSI reported that on Tuesday, the US acknowledged that two of its soldiers were killed and four more wounded when the Iraqi Resistance opened fire with light arms on one of their patrols in southeastern Baghdad. The American command also admitted that one other soldier was killed and four more wounded when a Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in northern Baghdad.

Diyala Province.
Al-Miqdadiyah.

Resistance bomb rips through US patrol in al-Miqdadiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 2:10pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the city of al-Miqdadiyah, about 85km north of Baghdad.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet regime’s security services as saying that the bomb had been planted by the al-Jazirah area junction, specifically, near the al-‘Izzi area to the north. The source reported that the bomb went off as a US patrol passed through the area, but failed to provide any further details as to the nature or extent of American casualties.

Eyewitnesses said that the Americans responded to the bomb attack by shooting indiscriminately, with much of their gunfire going into two gardens located nearby.

In a dispatch posted at 2:11pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an American patrol had already found a bomb in the center of the city on Wednesday morning. A puppet security source said that a Resistance bomb that had been planted near one of the bridges in the city was found and disarmed by a US patrol, causing no casualties.

US forces disarmed two bombs in the same area just the day before, the source reported.

Babil Province.
Al-Mahmudiyah.

US uses blockade, mass arrests, threats, to pressure villages and tribes in effort to find three US troops being held prisoner by the Iraqi Resistance.

In a dispatch posted at 11:29am Makkah time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that more than 400 villagers and townsmen in the area of al-Mahmudiyah have been arrested as the American occupation authorities press their search for three captured American soldiers, known to have been taken prisoner by the Iraqi Resistance on Saturday, 12 May in an attack in which four other US troops were killed.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet Iraqi regime’s security service as saying that more than 4,000 US troops are taking part in the offensive aimed at finding the captured American troops. Those ground forces are backed up by Iraqi puppet troops and operate under air cover from helicopter gun ships and warplanes.

Currently, more than 460 local residents have been interrogated, the source said, and 11 arrested and imprisoned by the US occupation forces. In the course of their interrogations and searches the Americans have obtained more than 50 intelligence “leads” but so far have found no material evidence that could lead to the whereabouts of the captured Americans.

The London-based Saudi-backed Arabic-language newspaper al-Hayat reported a high-ranking source in the puppet regime’s security service as saying that the Americans arrested more than 400 villagers in the area west of al-Mahmudiyah on Monday, and arrested more than 75 more on Tuesday. The source said that the Americans had learned that an attack they mounted parallel with the Euphrates River frustrated efforts by the Iraqi Resistance to relocated the American prisoners by boat to the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar.

Al-Hayat reported that evidence is beginning to point to the American prisoners’ being held in the agricultural area of al-‘Uwaysat, west of al-Mahmudiyah. The source said, however, that the likelihood of finding the prisoners alive is very small.

Meanwhile Shaykh ‘Abd an-Nasir al-Jannabi, a notable in the town of al-Latifiyah, about 40km south of Baghdad, as saying that the American raids and searches have involved the arrest of local notables in the town in an effort by the US to compel the Resistance to hand over the captured Americans.

Shaykh al-Jannabi reported that the Americans arrested local leaders and tribal shaykhs and imprisoned them in their military camp. The US military officials told the shaykhs and notables that the Resistance men who captured the three Americans belong to their tribes and that “the people of their tribes will pay the price for the ‘abduction’ of the soldiers” unless they cooperate with the US forces.

In a dispatch posted at 9:56 GMT Wednesday, Quds Press reported that in the course of its campaign to search for the three captured Americans the US occupation forces have completely isolated the area located south of Baghdad from the outside world, causing considerable discontent among the local population.

Al-Hajj Abu ‘Abd al-Ghani of al-Mahmudiyah said that the Americans had blockaded the entire area, not letting anyone out. All communications with the outside world have been cut and large numbers of US troops have descended on the villages where they have searched houses, sometimes ransacking the same dwelling repeatedly.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army reported that the Americans had arrested a number of residents and were searching for one man by the name of Khalid ad-Dulaymi. US troops found blood in ad-Dulaymi’s backyard, making him a “suspect.”

As a part of their search operations, the local residents said, the Americans have sent large numbers of unmanned spy planes into the skies above the area. Numerous helicopters are also conducting aerial searches.

Local residents resent the way the Americans have been conducting their searches, urging them to end their blockade on the area. Sabah al-Jannabi said that the Resistance fighters holding the US prisoners could easily take their uniforms and give them Arab dress to wear as well as change their appearance in other ways. Local residents believe that the tightening of the blockade around the area will only lead to the execution of the American prisoners.

The Americans, for their part, expressed the view on Wednesday that the capture of the three had been “preplanned” and cited the fact that at least 10 Resistance fighters took part in the attack in order to ensure the success of the operation. The American officials also said that the capture was part of an attack ‘with a measure of complexity” in which the Resistance men used several types of weapons.

Resistance blasts puppet “National Guard” headquarters in al-Mahmudiyah on Tuesday morning.

In a communique´ posted on its website at 2:52pm Wednesday, 16 May 2007, the Iraqi Resistance organization the Islamic Army announced that one of its units fired three 82mm mortar rounds into the headquarters of the puppet “Iraqi National Guard” in the area of al-Mahmudiyah, 25km south of Baghdad at 10am local time on Tuesday, 15 May.

Al-Hillah.

Resistance blasts US consulate in al-Hillah Tuesday night.

In a dispatch posted at 11:45am Baghdad time Wednesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the Iraqi Resistance fired four mortar rounds into the US consulate set up in the Babil Tourist Hotel in the city of al-Hillah, 100km south of Baghdad, on Tuesday night.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet regime’s security services as saying that as usual the tight security imposed by the Americans made information on the nature or extent of casualties inflicted by the barrage impossible to obtain.

Al-Yusufiyah.

Resistance pounds US base near al-Yusufiyah with mortars.

In a communique´ posted on its website on Tuesday, 15 May 2007, the Iraqi Resistance organization the Army of the Rashideen announced that one of its detachments had fired three mortar rounds into the US base set up in the former meat packing plant in al-Yusufiyah, 30km southwest of Baghdad.

At-Ta’mim Province.
Al-Huwayjah.

Resistance bombs target puppet security forces in al-Huwayjah Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 8:49pm Baghdad time Wednesday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of puppet police near the Technical Institute in the city of al-Huwayjah in northern Iraq at 2:30pm Wednesday afternoon.

The AMSI reported a puppet police source as saying that the bomb damaged a patrol vehicle and injured one puppet policeman.

Just a short while earlier, at 12:15pm midday Wednesday, another Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of puppet Iraqi army troops of the 2nd Brigade near the same Technical Institute. None of those troops were wounded in that attack, however.

Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.

American troops arrest deaf, blind, octogenarian in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 11:54pm Baghdad time Wednesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US occupation forces arrested a blind, deaf, 80-year-old retired Iraqi school teacher when he refused to let American troops bring their police dogs into his home in al-Mawsil to conduct a search.

The elderly man apparently refused to allow the dogs into the house because of his religious belief that the animals are unclean.

Resistance forces battle puppet police, troops in various parts of al-Mawsil Wednesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 11:01pm Baghdad time Wednesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that fighting broke out between Iraqi Resistance fighters and puppet regime troops and police in various neighborhoods of the northern city of al-Mawsil on Wednesday afternoon.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that fighting raged from Wednesday afternoon into the evening in several neighborhoods of the city. The sound of explosions and intense gunfire could be heard clearly as US helicopter gun ships continuously prowled the skies over the city, particularly over those districts where fighting was underway.

In an attempt to regain their tenuous control over the city, the puppet police authorities imposed a curfew on al-Mawsil Wednesday afternoon.

Al-Qadisiyah Province.
Ad-Diwaniyah.

Two Polish occupation troops shot and killed by snipers in ad-Diwaniyah in two days.

In a dispatch posted at 2:10pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a sniper shot and killed a Polish occupation soldier in the second such killing in two days in the city of ad-Diwaniyah, 120km south of Baghad at 9am local time Wednesday morning.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security forces as saying that a Polish soldier who was taking part in a foot patrol in the an-Nahdah neighborhood of ad-Diwaniyah was shot and killed. At the time of reporting, US helicopter gun ships were still searching the area looking for the sniper as ground troops carried out house-to-house searches over extensive sections of the city.

Another Polish occupation soldier was killed in the same neighborhood on Tuesday, also a victim of a sniper attack.

Dhi Qar Province.
An-Nasiriyah.

Muqtada as-Sadr’s Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian militia seizes most of Dhi Qar Province from puppet regime forces, as rival Shi‘i sectarian militias tussle for control of southern Iraq, in preparation for upcoming US departure.

In a dispatch posted at 10:08pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fighting has broken out in the southern Iraqi city of an-Nasiriyah between the puppet security forces − the backbone of which are the Badr Brigade Shi‘i sectarian militia − and the rival Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militia.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source inside an-Nasiriyah as saying that a prominent Jaysh al-Mahdi commander had been arrested by the puppet regime authorities and turned over to the Americans − an incident that sparked a violent reaction by the Jaysh al-Mahdi.

In a dispatch posted at 2:21pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported a member of the puppet security services as saying that the fierce fighting broke out at dawn on Wednesday and was still underway during the afternoon.

The AMSI reported that 20 people had been killed or wounded in the combat.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that heavy fighting raged particularly in the center of an-Nasiriyah near buildings on the Euphrates River that formerly housed the provincial government. The big Falih Basha as-Sa‘dun Mosque, the largest Sunni mosque in the city, was damaged in the course of the fighting that went on around it.

As of the time of reporting the Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian militia had taken full control of most of the districts and neighborhoods throughout Dhi Qar Province, in addition to the central district of the city of an-Nasiriyah.

The correspondent reported that the city remained tense, with all civilian activity completely paralyzed. Local residents are unable to go to work or even go out in the streets.

The city of an-Nasiriyah has on several occasions been the scene of fighting between rival Shi‘i sectarian militias and political movements. It is thought that the present fighting in an-Nasiriyah may be linked to the unrest that has made ad-Diwaniyah in al-Qadisiyah Province, and as-Samawah in Muthanna Province unstable and violence prone for the last several months, as rival Shi‘i sectarian groups begin to fight one another for dominance on the ground, preparatory the approaching departure of the American occupation forces.

An-Najaf Province.
An-Najaf.

Bomb explodes by puppet police patrol in an-Najaf in apparent spread of Shi‘i sectarian rivalry to that city.

In a dispatch posted at 2:21pm Baghdad time Wednesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a bomb exploded by a puppet police patrol in the Shi‘i holy city of an-Najaf, in what could be an indication that fighting between rival Shi‘i sectarian militias and movements − including those making up the puppet security forces − had spread to that city.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security services as saying on Wednesday that the bomb exploded near the an-Najaf Tire Factory at 7am local time. The explosion caused no casualties, but damaged a patrol car.
