The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local residents who fled Barwanah because of the American campaign of mass arrests that the US army wiped out a whole family during the night.

The witnesses said that US Marines killed al-Hajj Khayri ‘Abdallah, his wife, and two of their grandchildren who were living with them. The Americans massacred the family after a land mine that had been planted near the door of their house exploded and killed two US troops and wounded two more of them.

After the lethal blast, the witnesses said, the enraged Americans stormed into ‘Abdallah’s home and opened fire on anyone they found there. The Marines then burned the house and the car in the garage and then proceeded to arrest 20 people living in the neighborhood who witnessed their crime.

With his death the official toll of American dead would rise to 3,455, and the number of officially acknowledged US deaths in the current month of May would rise to 104, making May one of the costliest months for the US military this year. Baghdad.

Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq denounces bombing of tomb of Sufi Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kaylani on Monday, calls for unity and calm.

In a statement posted on its website Monday, 28 May 2007, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) declared that “criminal gangs targeted the Mosque of ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kaylani with a car bomb at noon on 28 May in a desperate attempt to stir up sectarian strife again.”

The AMSI declared that it was “certain” that the elements that blew up the Shi‘i Shrine in Samarra’ on 22 February 2006 are the same people who are responsible for blowing up the shrine of the Sufi Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kaylani.

The statement denounced the criminal attack on a shrine venerated throughout Iraq and the entire Islamic world, noting that the enemies of the Iraqi people are “on the verge of defeat” and that such behavior was usual for them in such a period. The AMSI called for patient perseverance and for unity and opposition to sectarian responses, noting that if ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kaylani were alive he would work to unite the people and bind them together.

‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kaylani (also spelled al-Jilani, al-Gilani, al-Kilani) was a renowned Sufi adept and Shaykh of the fundamentalist Hanbali school of Islamic law, who lived 1077-1165 CE [470-561 Hiji]). The Shaykh’s tomb is visited by Muslims from throughout Iraq and the Islamic world every year.

In a dispatch posted at 4:41pm Makkah time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a car bomb had exploded in the as-Sinak Market near the al-Khallani Mosque after noon on Monday, killing 19 people and wounding 46 more.

Her husband, Ahmad ‘Abdallah, had been arrested nearly a month ago on charges of membership in al-Qa‘idah in Iraq.

The witnesses said that the Iraqi puppet troops said that the US-installed Baghdad regime had decided to deport the family to Egypt after finding that the charges were true.

A source in the puppet security services said that the reason for the American move was a Resistance attack in which two US military vehicles were destroyed, killing or wounding the troops aboard them. After that attack, American forces raided and searched several neighborhoods of ad-Durah.

Witnesses in ad-Durah also said that US forces had arrested a number of local civilians on charges of carrying out armed attacks on the occupation troops.

The also set fire to the Sunni Abu al-Qasim Muhammad Mosque on Monday afternoon. They had already assassinated Shaykh Namis al-Karim, the Imam of the mosque, some time back.

As of the time of reporting, fighting between villagers on the one hand, and the puppet regime troops and sectarian gunmen on the other was still underway. The puppet “Iraqi National Guards” on Sunday got Shi ‘ families to leave the area on Sunday prior to the launch of their sectarian offensive, apparently aimed at clearing Sunnis out of the area in keeping with efforts to partition Iraq.

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines − which often are masked under language about forming an Iraqi “federation” − are consistent with plans that US and Zionist politicians have long been cultivating.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.
