Baghdad.

Fighting between Islamic Army and al-Qa‘idah Resistance organizations in al-‘Amiriyah in western Baghdad subsides Friday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted on its website on Friday, 1 June 2007, Quds Press reported eyewitnesses as saying that the fierce fighting that had erupted between the al-Qa‘idah Resistance organization and Resistance men of the Islamic Army organization in the al-‘Amiriyah area of western Baghdad at noon on Thursday had come to an end.

The correspondent for Quds Press reported local witnesses as saying that a cautious calm pervaded al-‘Amiriyah at the time of reporting Friday, noting that members of the rival Resistance groups were still deployed in the area. Islamic Army fighters were present in the Duwar al-Mukhabarat area while al-Qa‘idah men were entrenched on the other side of the district, which has been controlled by Resistance men for about six months now.

Local residents reported that Resistance fighters could be seen patrolling the streets, main intersections, and stores in the area. The sounds of combat had completely subsided, but the reason for the end of the fighting was not known. Local residents were still staying indoors for fear that combat could erupt again at any moment.

US forces were observed gathering on the outskirts of the district.

Fighting raged in al-‘Amiriyah at noon in western Baghdad on Friday, following the killing of a field commander named Abu Tayyibah, who was believed to belong to the Islamic Army.

Resistance bomb targets puppet force in Baghdad late Thursday afternoon.

In a communique´ posted on its website on Friday, 1 June 2007, the Iraqi Resistance organization Jihadi Groups of Iraq (‘Asa’ib al-‘Iraq al-Jihadiyah) announced that one of its units had detonated a bomb that killed four puppet members of the “Falcons of Baghdad” puppet group and wounded several more of them. The Resistance bomb destroyed a robot that the puppet troops were using to search for bombs in an attack that took place near the Electricity Department of the ad-Dubbat neighborhood of the as-Sayyidiyah district of Baghdad that took place at 7pm local time Thursday afternoon, 31 May 2007.

Shi‘i sectarian militias attack Baghdad district Friday evening, killing elderly man.

In a dispatch posted at 10:51pm Baghdad time Friday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian militiamen attacked the ad-Dubbat area of the al-‘Amil neighborhood of Baghdad on Friday evening, sparking a clash with local residents.

The AMSI reported that in the course of the sectarian attack, three mortar shells landed in the residential area, killing one elderly man and wounding three other local people.

The Shi‘i sectarian militias are continuing their campaign to “cleanse” much of central and southern Iraq and Baghdad of its Sunni population in preparation for the fulfillment of plans to partition Iraq, drawn up by Zionist and US think tanks.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.
