Resistance bomb targets US patrol in Baghdad’s al-A‘zamiyah Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 1:48pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-A‘zamiyah section of western Baghdad on Thursday morning.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security services as saying that a bomb went off on ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Street, disablig an American vehicle and wounding the US soldiers who were aboard it.

The source added that US forces then cordoned off the area and sent helicopter gun ships into the air to prowl the skies over the Sunni district that US forces walled off from the rest of the world several weeks ago.

US admits 14 American military deaths in 24 hours Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:18pm Makkah time afternoon Thursday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military admitted on Thursday that 14 American troops had been killed within the previous 24 hours.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the US military as saying that five American troops were killed along with their Iraqi translator when an Iraqi Resistance bomb went off by their vehicle in the northeastern part of Baghdad on Thursday. One other American soldier and two Iraqis were also injured in that blast, the American statement said.

An Iraqi Resistance rocket or shell struck a US military vehicle on Thursday, the US acknowledged, killing one American soldier and wounding three more of them in an attack “north of Baghdad.”

Two US Marines were killed “to the west of Baghdad” and four more of them wounded in a Resistance attack on Wednesday.

An Iraqi Resistance land mine went off under a US convoy “to the west of Baghdad,” killing four US troops and wounding a fifth, the Americans announced.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked US Marines in al-Anbar Province, killing two of the Americans.

Earlier in the day, in a dispatch posted at 9:30am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported an Iraqi Resistance bomb went off by a US patrol in the al-Hurriyah area of northwestern Baghdad on Wednesday. A source in the Iraqi puppet police reported that US troops surrounded the area and prevented anyone from approaching so as to prevent news of the US casualties from leaking out.

Tariq ‘Aziz wants resolution of his case after 49 months in prison with no charge and no trial; amid deteriorating health, a target of American “psychological warfare.”

In a dispatch posted at 2:09pm Makkah time afternoon Thursday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that imprisoned Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq ‘Aziz is suffering from deteriorating health and is pressing to get his case decided, one way or another.

Ziyad Tariq ‘Aziz, the son of the imprisoned Iraqi Deputy Premier, told the press: “I spoke with my father by telephone [Wednesday] for 5.43 minutes with his father on Wednesday. His psychological condition was lamentable and he asked me to find out from the relevant parties until when he would have to remain in this situation, having been imprisoned for 49 months without being tried or charged with anything.”

Mafkarat al-Islam reported Ziyad as saying that his father asked about his lawyer, Badi‘ ‘Arif ‘Izzat who is currently in Jordan. ‘Aziz has not been able to see his lawyer now for four months because the puppet regime’s “Supreme Court” in Baghdad has issued an arrest warrant for the attorney. Tariq ‘Aziz reportedly requested that ‘Izzat send a message to all his friends around the world to seek their intervention with the US military and the puppet regime to bring him to trial according to principle or to set him free as some others have been freed.

Ziyad Tariq ‘Aziz is allowed to speak by telephone with his father for 30 minutes each month, and they use up that allotted time in a few short calls during the month. The US occupation forces prohibited the family of Tariq ‘Aziz from visiting him in May 2006, and since that time they have had to content themselves with brief phone calls.

Ziyad told the press that his father “wants to understand his legal situation after spending all this time in prison. And we as a family too want to understand until when he will remain in prison, suffering from intentional medical psychological neglect.” Ziyad said that his father is the object of “psychological warfare,” and noted that Tariq ‘Aziz sufers from heart disease and diabetes, high blood pressure and a sinus condition. He said that half of the 5-minute conversation consisted of his father coughing.

Ziyad ‘Aziz said that Tariq ‘Aziz is in need of “urgent medical care.” He said: “we as a family appeal to the world and to international organizations to intervene to save his life.”

Ziyad also reported that his father had requested a copy of At the Center of the Storm, the memoirs of George Tenet, the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency from 1997 to 2004, and Ziyad indicated that he would send the book to his father via the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Ziyad appealed to the puppet regime in Baghdad and the American occupation forces to intervene “and end the suffering of my father because of the condition of his health; he requires care and attention and needs to be with his family, his children and grandchildren.”

In 1980, while on a visit to Baghdad University, Iranian-backed terrorists of the Shi‘i sectarian Da‘wah Party threw a hand grenade at Tariq ‘Aziz. ‘Aziz survived but several civilians were killed. The current US-installed puppet “Prime Minister” of Iraq, Nuri al-Maliki, is a leader of the Shi‘i sectarian Da‘wah Party.

Baath Party conveys condolences on the passing of poetess Nazik al-Mala’ikah.

In a dispatch posted on the patriotic Iraqi website albasrah.net, the Arab Baath Socialist Party announced Thursday that the funeral of the outstanding Iraqi poetess Nazik al-Mala’ikah (1923-2007) was held in Cairo Thursday morning, 21 June 2007, the procession departing from the Mosque of Shaykh Kishk in the al-‘Abbasiyah area of al-Qahirah al-Jadidah, and ending at the 6 October Cemetery.

A representative of the Arab Baath Socialist Party offered condolences on behalf of the party to her son Buraq and praised the role played by the late poetess in the Iraqi cultural movement and the Arabic poetic movement. The funeral was attended by a large number of Iraqi and Egyptian writers, journalists, and intellectuals.

Nazik al-Mala’ikah was a pioneer in the Arabic free verse movement and of the struggle against British colonialism.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Samarra’.

Sectarian terror spreads with US, puppet Iraqi forces throughout Samarra’, one week after their bombing of the Shi‘i Shrine of the Two Imams.

In a dispatch posted at 10:13pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that one week after they blew up the Shi‘i Shrine of the Two Imams in Samarra’, the United States and its puppet regime forces had extended their control from the western to the eastern part of that city, located 120km north of Baghdad.

The correspondent for AMSI reported that after spending a week occupying Sunni mosques, shutting down normal economic activity, preventing people from getting to medical care, shooting residents randomly in the streets, and generally driving Sunnis out of the western part of Samarra’, the US and puppet regime forces seized control of the az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwam School in the al-Jubayriyah neighborhood of eastern Samarra’ on Tuesday, 19 June.

The az-Zubayr school had been designated an alternative testing location for the final exams that local middle-school students were originally to have taken in the al-Mutawakkil School in the neighborhood of al-Mu‘tasim in the western part of the city − something that had become impossible after the US and puppet forces had rendered that part of the city uninhabitable.

No sooner had the Americans and their puppet army allies settled into the az-Zubayr school than the same terror that they had imposed on the western part of the city began to spread in the east. Continuous shooting erupted around the school, forcing the local people to begin to pack up and prepare to leave that area as well. Initially people have been moving to the northeastern part of Samarra’ to escape the advance of the Americans and their allies, but witnesses have reported that the occupation forces are intent upon moving into the schools in that part of the city as well.

One indication of how the US and puppet army presence has totally disrupted life is the fact that due to the terror being spread by the Americans and their Iraqi stooge forces, worshippers at the largest mosque in eastern Samarra’ − the Sunni Mosque of Ahmad ibn Hanbal which is only 150 meters from the az-Zubayr school − have been unable to say any of the daily prayers for three straight days. The US and puppet troops fire so many bullets around their headquarters in the school that anyone walking in the streets in the area is in mortal danger, making even religious duties impossible to carry out.

Igniting sectarian strife was the apparent reason for the bombing of the Shi‘i Shrine of the Two Imams on Wednesday, 13 June. Sectarian killings and strife lead to the division of the Sunni and Shi‘i populations as is needed in order to implement plans to partition Iraq along sectarian lines.

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines are part of the plans that US and Zionist politicians have long been cultivating with a view to fragmenting the Arab region.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.

Sulayman Bak.

Resistance truck bomber kills 12 in strike on puppet police, government compound in Sulayman Bak.

In a dispatch posted at 12:02pm Makkah time midday Thursday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter drove an explosives-laden truck into the area near the headquarters of the puppet municipality in Sulayman Bak, southeast of Kirkuk in northern Iraq.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a high-ranking official in the puppet police as declaring that the Resistance attacker blew up the truck, destroying parts of the building housing the puppet police directorate, puppet regime administrative offices. Four nearby houses were also destroyed the puppet official claimed.

Colonel ‘Abbas Muhammad, the commander of the puppet police in the nearby city of Tuz Khurmatu said that the blast left the building extensively damaged and at the time of reporting, fire was still burning inside as rescuers continued to try to locate survivors. Colonel Muhammad said that the efforts of rescuers were hampered by the fact that the nearest hospital was a long distance away.

Colonel Muhammad said that among those wounded in the blast were members of the local puppet council and a number of officers in the puppet police force, including the puppet police chief for Sulayman Bak himself, Lieutenant Colonel Hasan ‘Ali al-Bayyati.

Dr. Jawdat Mahmud Sibti of the General Emergency Hospital confirmed that by preliminary count 12 people had been killed and 70 wounded in the Resistance attack on the puppet government complex.

Diyala Province.
Al-Mada’in.

Resistance bomb targets puppet “Shock Troop” headquarters in al-Mada’in, killing two.

In a dispatch posted at 8:43pm Baghdad time Thursday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an explosives-laden truck blew up by the headquarters of the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)” in al-Mada’in, 25km southeast of Baghdad on Thursday afternoon.

Al-Miqdadiyah.

Resistance bomb targets US patrol in al-Miqdadiyah Tuesday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 4:28pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in al-Miqdadiyah, 85km northeast of Baghdad on Thrusday afternoon.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that a bomb that had been planted at the northern approaches to al-Miqdadiyah went off near the popular clinic at the moment that a US patrol was driving past. The blast destroyed one Humvee, wounding the Americans aboard. The US sent swarms of helicopter gun ships into the air to prowl the skies above after the attack.

Unknown armed men blow up house of chief of Iraqi solidarity with Iranian People’s Mujahideen Organization.

In a dispatch posted at 1:31pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that unknown armed men blew up the house of Dr. ‘Abdallah al-Jabburi, the former governor of Diyala Province and the President of the Solidarity Committee with the Iranian People’s Mujahideen Organization − a group opposed to the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Tehran, which the Iranian government consequently considers a “terrorist” organization.

The AMSI reported that a group of unknown armed men stormed al-Jabburi’s house in the al-Haruniyah district of al-Miqdadiyah, 85km north of Baghdad, on Wednesday night. The gunmen detonated bombs around the building. Neither al-Jabburi nor any members of his family were hurt in the attack, but their home did suffer material damage.

Ba‘qubah.

Residents of Ba‘qubah area appeal for humanitarian help after three days of continuous American shelling and offensive.

In a dispatch posted at 8:14am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the residents of the areas of al-Katun al-Mafraq, and al-Mu‘allimin to the west of Ba‘qubah, which is about 65km northeast of Baghdad, have issued an appeal to humanitarian organizations and to the world to help with the humanitarian disaster that they are facing in the wake of the massive American offensive.

The AMSI reported the residents of the area to the west of Ba‘qubah as saying that there are dead still buried under rubble following continuous US bombardments for three straight days. The back yards of local houses have been turned into graveyards, the residents reported, as a result of the US shelling.

The area has also been continuously without water and electricity since the Americans began their offensive in the area, which began three days ago, leaving dozens of dead, including women, children, and elderly persons, AMSI reported.
