Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 15 July 2007. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Sunday, 15 July 2007.

・ American F-16 crashes in Iraq, US admits Sunday.

・ Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder spree continues: 22 more tortured bodies recovered in Baghdad in continuing drive to implement Zionist, US plans to partition Iraq.

・ US helicopter attack kills woman in ‘Arab Jabbur south of Baghdad.

・ US Apache helicopters kill villagers in raids near al-Miqdadiyah Sunday morning.

Baghdad.

American F-16 crashes in Iraq, US admits.

In a dispatch posted at 8:54pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military admitted Sunday that one of its F-16 fighter bombers had crashed in Iraq.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the US military as announcing that an F-16 had crashed on takeoff at one of the many American bases somewhere in occupied Iraq. The American statement claimed that the pilot survived the crash and was evacuated to a military hospital where he was undergoing medical tests.

It is standard American practice to conceal facts regarding its losses in Iraq and accordingly the US statement failed to say where the crash occurred. It is also the American habit to refuse to admit that crashed aircraft were brought down by Iraqi Resistance fire until such admission becomes unavoidable due to the spread of information not under the control of the American censors.

Mysterious car bomb kills 10 in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 6:29pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a car bomb exploded near al-Husayn Square in the al-Jadiriyah area of Baghdad Sunday.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the puppet police as saying that at least 10 people had been killed and 25 more wounded when an explosives-laden car that was parked in the area blew up.

Later, in their dispatch on the blast posted at 11:29pm Sunday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the car bomb exploded in an area in al-Karradah that is full of restaurants. Medical sources told AMSI that two women were among the dead and three women and five children among the injured.

Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder spree continues: 22 more tortured bodies recovered in Baghdad in continuing drive to implement Zionist, US plans to partition Iraq.

In a dispatch posted at 10:19pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the Iraqi puppet police retrieved the bodies of 22 more victims of sectarian abduction, torture, and murder in Baghdad.

Reporting the same story Quds Press quoted a source in the puppet police as saying that the bodies were found lying in the middle of some streets and near garbage dumps. They were bound, blindfolded, and showed signs of severe torture. The bodies, which lacked identification papers, were taken to the Baghdad morgue for identification and retrieval by next of kin.

Torture is a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed security forces most of whose members are drawn from those sectarian militias.

With the latest batch of bodies, the official puppet regime count of the number of murder victims picked up in Baghdad alone now stands at 248 bodies for the month of July.

Shi‘i sectarian militias are using torture and murder in an effort to purge much of Baghdad and Iraq of Sunnis in preparation for the implementation of US and Zionist plans to partition the country on sectarian lines.

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines are part of the plans that US and Zionist politicians have long been cultivating with a view to fragmenting the Arab region.]

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.

US helicopter attack kills woman in ‘Arab Jabbur.

In a dispatch posted at 11:13am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a US helicopter gun ship struck the ‘Arab Jabbur area to the south of Baghdad.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the American attack killed a woman and wounded another civilian.

The source added that two US patrols in Baghdad had shot at civilians. One American patrol wounded two civilians in eastern Baghdad’s at-Talibiyah area on Saturday afternoon, and another patrol shot at civilians in the ash-Sha‘b district, the puppet security source said.

Diyala Province.
Al-Miqdadiyah.

US Apache helicopters kill villagers in raids near al-Miqdadiyah Sunday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 11:50am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Us helicopter gun ships attacked the two villages of ad-Dir‘iyah and al-Khannasah in the area of al-Miqdadiyah, 85km northeast of Baghdad Sunday morning.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that the US Apache helicopters fired rockets at houses in the villages of ad-Dir‘iyah and al-Khannasah, killing a number of local civilians and wounding others.

AMSI commented that the US sometimes uses its helicopter gun ships to provide air support to American soldiers carrying out operations on the ground. More often, however, AMSI said, the US used the helicopters just to show their power and terrorize local people.

The ad-Dir‘iyah area has been under continuous attacks and bombardments by US forces because the Americans claim that armed Resistance fighters belonging to al-Qa‘idah are in the village.

Wasit Province.
Badrah.

Iranians escape prison in border town.

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that 24 Iranians escaped from a prison in an Iraqi town near the Iranian frontier on Saturday night.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the Iraqi puppet police as saying that the Iranians had been jailed on charges of crossing the border into Iraq illegally, adding that they were not involved in acts of violence or “terror.” It was not clear whether the prisoners had got out on their own or had help from inside the prison.

The Aswat al-‘Iraq news agency reported a source in the puppet security services as saying that the 24 Iranians broke down the prison gate and fled on Saturday. The agency said that the prisoners had been under investigation, and added that four of them had been recaptured.

In response to the escape local puppet authorities imposed a curfew on the border city of Badrah, located 160km east of Baghdad.

As-Sulaymaniyah Province.
Banjwin.

Resistance attack leaves five puppet Border Guards dead in far northern Iraq.

In a dispatch posted at 5pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that armed men attacked a puppet Border Guard patrol near the town of Banjwin, near the Iranian border, 360km northeast of Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported Brigadier General Ahmad Daskara as saying that the attack left five of the puppet Border Guards dead and four others wounded. The injured were hospitalized for treatment.

In May it was announced that a force of 1,000 men had been sent to Banjwin to deal with frequent attacks.

Meanwhile, the puppet “Governor” of Banjwin, ‘Umar Gharib blamed the Kurdish Islamist Resistance group Ansar al-Islam for being behind Sunday’s attack.

Gharib said that the Resistance men fired RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades and light and medium firearms at the puppet Border Guard patrol.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

British positions come under attack in al-Basrah.

In a dispatch posted at 2:59pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the British “Joint Coordination Center” in the southern city of al-Basrah came under attack by armed men firing light and medium weapons at dawn on Sunday.

The AMSI reported a British statement as saying that the British occupation troops returned fire and claimed that there had been no casualties in the attack. The “Joint Coordination Center” is located in the puppet police station in the al-Hakimiyah area of central al-Basrah and is used by British forces and local puppet police.

In addition, the two British headquarters in al-Basrah came under mortar and Katyusha rocket attacks on Saturday night and at dawn on Sunday. The British announced that the attacks had targeted their headquarters set up in the Presidential Palaces to the south of al-Basrah and also their headquarters at al-Basrah International Airport to the west of the city.
