Baghdad.

Fierce fighting rages in Baghdad district midday Tuesday as American-backed “National Guards” back Shi‘i sectarian militiamen in assault on neighborhood, prompting local residents to take up arms in self-defense.

In a bulletin posted at 1:47pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that at that hour fierce fighting in Place 883 in the ad-Dubbat area of the al-Jihad neighborhood between local residents and attacking Shi‘i sectarian militias backed up by puppet “Iraqi National Guards.”

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that the militias and puppet “Guards” attacked the area despite the presence of pro-American Kurdish separatist Peshmergah gunmen who are there to enforce the rule of the American occupation regime. The witnesses said that the local residents rose to defend themselves against the attacking regime-backed sectarians and in the battle the defenders had been able to set one of the attackers’ Humveesn on fire.

The residents of the al-Jihad neighborhood were fighting back against the attacking militia, despite the fact that the sectarian gunmen were being reinforced by the American-backed “Iraqi National Guard.” The local residents were fighting with nothing but small arms against the attackers who are equipped with modern light and heavy weapons and drive modern government cars on which machine guns are mounted.

The US has officially declared that militias are in control of most of the Baghdad districts of al-Bayya‘ and al-‘Amil. The militias are now trying to expand into ad-Dubbat under the flag of the occupation and its stooges, the AMSI correspondent noted. The correspondent noted that the Shi‘i sectarian gunmen usually assault the ad-Dubbat district from al-‘Amil in their continuing attempts to impose their control over more and more extensive parts of the city, in order to prevent the local population − who oppose the US occupation − from defending their country.

Four reported killed in car bombing opposite the Iranian embassy in Baghdad Tuesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 9:56pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an explosives-packed car blew up in the car park of the Iranian embassy near the top-security area around the Republican Palace − the area dubbed the “Green Zone” by the Americans − in an attack that took place before noon on Tuesday.

The AMSI reported that the roar of the explosion could be hear in many parts of Baghdad and that plumes of smoke billowed into the sky over the parking lot in the Karradat Maryam neighborhood.

A puppet regime source said that four people had been killed and two more wounded in the bombing. After the attack, puppet regime troops and ambulances raced to the area and sealed it off completely. The Iranian embassy itself was not affected by the explosion.

Earelier, in a dispatch posted at 3pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported puppet security sources as saying that the blast came from an explosives-packed car that had been parked in the lot.

The parking lot is used by employees in the puppet regime “ministries” in the area, by people visiting the Iranian embassy, and by workers in the adjacent walled-off top security area around the Republican Palace that the Americans have dubbed the “Green Zone.”

Shi‘i sectarian bloc of Muqtada as-Sadr returns to US installed puppet “parliament” after one-month boycott.

In a dispatch posted at 2:30pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Nassar ar-Rabi‘i, the chairman of the bloc of supporters of Shi‘i sectarian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr in the US-installed “Iraqi Parliament” announced that his people were ending their temporary boycott of the “parliament” that they had announced after the suspicious bombing of the Shi‘i Shrine of the two Imams in Samarra’ on 13 June 2007.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported ar-Rabi‘i as telling Agence France Press (AFP) that the Sadri bloc was ending its boycott of the American-installed puppet “parliament” as of Tuesday.

The Shi‘i fundamentalist bloc − which is close to the Iranian “conservatives” led by Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Najad and actively collaborates with the US occupation regime in Iraq − announced in June that it would stay away from the puppet “parliament” until the regime took action to rebuild mosques in the country in particular that of the Two Imams in Samarra’.

Four puppet army troops reported killed in Resistance car bombing.

In a dispatch posted at 2:44pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a puppet army patrol in eastern Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the puppet police as saying that the blast killed four puppet soldiers and wounded five more. In addition, the puppet police asserted, six other people were killed and five wounded in the attack, which took place in Baghdad’s az-Zuyunah neighborhood.

Pro-American Sunni puppet police in al-‘Amiriyah beat elderly man to death.

In a dispatch posted at 12:32pm Baghdad time midday Tuesday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a group of puppet police known as the “al-‘Amiriyah Revolutionaries” beat an elderly man to death near the al-Hasanayn Mosque in the western Baghdad district of al-‘Amiriyah.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that the puppet “al-‘Amiriyah Revolutionaries” police raided and searched the home of as-Sayyid ‘Ali Hammadi, Abu Fahd, an elderly man. In the course of their raid, they beat Abu Fahd to death.

The so-called “al-‘Amiriyah Revolutionaries” are one of several local Sunni collaborationist militias and police groups that the US has been putting together for several months in its effort to create an alternative set of security forces to those that it initially formed on the basis of the Shi‘i sectarian militias loyal to Shi‘i clerics who have strong ties to the Iranian regime.

As the US, under the relentless blows of the Iraqi Resistance, increasingly seeks ways to get out of Iraq, Iran has been working through the Shi‘i sectarian militias to step into the shoes of the retreating Americans and to extend Iran’s hegemony over all or most of Iraq once the US finally leaves. Rivals for control over Iraq, the US and Iran continue to work together in support of the puppet Baghdad regime − which is dominated by Shi‘i sectarians − and in “counterinsurgency” activity against the popular Iraqi Resistance movement, which is opposed to all foreign hegemony, be it US, Zionist, or Iranian.

But in recent months the US has tried to create local Sunni puppet police and militia units in order to try to win the “hearts and minds” of the population in Sunni areas and to reduce US dependence on the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarians who dominate the existing puppet security forces.

The “al-‘Amiriyah Revolutionaries” recently took part alongside US troops and the puppet “Iraqi National Guards” in a campaign of arbitrary raids in the al-‘Amal ash-Sha‘bi Street area of al-‘Amiriyah.

A similar organization − the al-Anbar Salvation Council in al-Anbar Province − was also set up with the intent of winning support of Sunnis for the US occupation.

The American forces have had considerable trouble with such groups, however, as they are generally regarded by the population as traitors and consequently find themselves resorting to the use of force against the very people whose “hearts and minds” they are supposed to be attracting. The US was recently compelled to dismiss the puppet governor and chief of police in al-Fallujah − both associated with the al-Anbar Salvation Council − after a mass grave containing the bodies of 40 local people who had been arrested by the “Salvation Council” was widely reported.

Tuesday’s murder of Abu Fahd by the collaborationist “al-‘Amiriyah Revolutionaries” is another indication of the lack of success that the US is having in its effort to use collaborators to gain the sympathy of the Iraqi people.

US admits one more Marine killed in Diyala Province.

In a dispatch posted at 8:56pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military had announced that another of its Marines had died in occupied Iraq.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the US military as announcing that one more American Marine had been killed in Diyala Province. In keeping with the American policy of concealing facts regarding its losses in occupied Iraq, the announcement failed to say where in the 17,685 square kilometers of Diyala Province the death occurred nor did it disclose any other facts regarding the incident.

Visit by puppet regime general to Palestinian clinic near al-Baladiyat causes panic.

In a dispatch posted at 10:05am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a large force of about 50 puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)” in 20 armored cars had surrounded and sealed off the Palestine Medical Complex and the Hayfa Sports Club adjacent to the Palestinian residential area in Baghdad’s al-Baladiyat district.

The AMSI reported that the assault has put the population inside the area into a state of panic and alarm as it appeared that another murderous sectarian attack was about to be launched.

It later appeared that the reason for the military activity was not an impending attack, but that a high ranking general in the puppet “Interior Ministry” was coming to the Palestine medical clinic for treatment. The official remained in the clinic for 20 minutes and then left with his forces.

The same general has shown up in the past under similar circumstances − the last occasion being about a month ago.

AMSI commented that the reason for these visits and all the commotion they cause is unknown, as a high-ranking general would normally be expected to summon a doctor to him or go to one of the modern hospitals in the American-run “Green Zone” rather than go to a neighborhood people’s clinic for treatment.

US announces 10th “non-combat” death in Iraq in two-week period.

In a dispatch posted at 9:16am Makkah time Tuesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the American Defense Department had announced at dawn Tuesday that one more US soldier had died of what it described as “non-combat” injuries in Iraq.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the US statement as saying that the soldier, a military policeman, was killed in Baghdad on Sunday, 15 July. In keeping with the US policy of concealing the facts regarding its losses in occupied Iraq, the Pentagon failed to say how the soldier died or to offer any further details. The incident was the 10th “non-combat” death in Iraq to be announced in two weeks.

Diyala Province.
Al-Miqdadiyah.

Men in puppet army uniforms raid village, kill 29 villagers near Ba‘qubah.

In a dispatch posted at 1:07pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an official in the US-installed Iraqi puppet regime announced that Iraqi puppet army troops, or men dressed in puppet army uniforms, stormed into houses and killed 29 villagers north of Ba‘qubah, which is 65km northeast of Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported Colonel Raghib Rawi, an official spokesman of the puppet security operations division in Diyala Province as saying that a large number of armed men in puppet army uniforms surrounded the village of ad-Duwayliyah north of Ba‘qubah on Monday evening and then killed the villagers.

Mafkarat al-Islam noted that Shi‘i sectarian militias have frequently carried out abductions, murders, and massacres while wearing puppet army and security force uniforms − often because they are actually members of those puppet armed services concurrently with their membership in Shi‘i sectarian militias.

Armed men gun down 12 members of family in al-‘Askari neighborhood of al-Miqdadiyah Tuesday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 12:40pm Baghdad time midday Tuesday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that unknown armed men killed 12 members of a family in the al-‘Askari neighborhood to the east of al-Miqdadiyah, 85km northeast of Baghdad on Tuesday morning. The attack came hours after Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen had driven several families out of the area and burned down their homes.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security forces in the city said that the gunmen stormed into one of the houses in al-‘Askari and opened fire on all the 12 members of the family, including the women and children.

Armed men also attacked a private car in al-Miqdadiyah. A puppet police source in the city said that the gunmen were wearing puppet regime uniforms and set up a check pont in the al-‘Askari area. There they opened fire on a Kia car in which a number of civilians were riding, wounding two women aboard the vehicle.

In another incident, armed men killed two women near a check point that they had set up in the village of Qazaljah, northeast of al-Miqdadiyah.

Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen burn down homes, drive out villagers in al-Miqdadiyah in drive to partition Iraq.

In a dispatch posted on its website Tuesday, Quds Press reported that Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen burned down six homes in the al-Miqdadiyah area, about 85km northeast of Baghdad, throwing their residents out.

Sources told Quds Press that the Shi‘i sectarian gunmen attacked the al-‘Askari neighborhood of al-Miqdadiyah on Monday night during the hours when the nighttime curfew is in force. The Shi‘i sectarians expelled the women and children from six houses in the area and then burned the buildings down, forcing the displaced families to get out of the area immediately in the middle of the night.

Two days ago, the al-‘Askari neighborhood was the scene of a similar attack by the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, which is loyal to Shi‘i sectarian fundamentalist Muqtada as-Sadr. In that attack the sectarians burned down 17 houses and a mosque and drove the inhabitants out of the area.

Quds Press reported that at a time when US forces are ostensibly trying to impose “security” on the area around Ba‘qubah northeast of Baghdad, there has been a great deal of violence as the Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, together with several units of the puppet Iraqi army that provide support for the Americans have been driving people out of their homes.

The Shi‘i sectarian forces − both the militias and the pro-American puppet army − are engaged in a sectarian “cleansing” operation, trying to purge vast swaths of southern and eastern Iraq of Sunnis in order to pave the way for the partition of Iraq in keeping with plans drawn up by US and Zionist strategists.

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines are part of the plans that US and Zionist politicians have long been cultivating with a view to fragmenting the Arab region.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.

Al-Mada’in.

Resistance fighters launch simultaneous attacks on all puppet “Lion Brigade” centers in al-Mada’in Tuesday afternoon.

In a bulletin posted at 9:25pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Resistance fighters attacked all the checkpoints manned by puppet so-called “Interior Ministry Lion Brigade” troops in al-Mada’in, 25km southeast of Baghdad on Tuesday afternoon.

The AMSI reported that Resistance men simultaneously attacked all the centers that the puppet “Lion Brigade” occupies in al-Mada’in, sparking violent battles and inflicting heavy losses in dead and wounded on the puppet troops.

British bombers devastate ad-Dir‘iyah area near al-Mada’in as Britain makes new and expanded contributions with its aircraft to Americas campaign of destruction waged against recalcitrant population.

In a bulletin posted at 10:43am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that British Tornado bombers had cut off the ad-Dir‘iyah area from nearby al-Mada’in − about 25km southeast of Baghdad, when they dropped heavy bombs on the road linking ad-Dir‘iyah with the surrounding area.

Eyewitnesses said that at about 10am local time Tuesday morning, Tornadoes dropped a number of heavy bombs on the main road from ad-Dir‘iyah causing large-scaled destruction. The area has been coming under intense bombardments and attacks and is blockaded on a virtually daily basis because the local population is known to be opposed to the US occupation.

The AMSI reported that British bombers have lately been carrying out new missions far from the British-occupied areas around al-Basrah in far southern Iraq. British aircraft have been involved in bombing homes in the ad-Dir‘iyah area and in dropping heavy bombs, some of them weighing several tons. These attacks have claimed dozens of dead and wounded among the civilian population.

Life has been paralyzed for the residents of ad-Dir‘iyah as a result of daily bombardments, the destruction of houses, markets and shops, the continuous bombings, and the daily arrests.

Babil Province.
Al-Mahawil.

Mortar barrage wounds civilians in al-Mahawil Monday night.

In a dispatch posted at 9:53am Baghdad time Tuesday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that five people were wounded, including women and children when mortar shells blasted into the at-Tahiriyah area north of al-Mahawil about 65km south of Baghdad on Monday night.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that injured people were taken to the al-Mahawil hospital for treatment.

The puppet police also said that two bodies, one of a puppet soldier and one of a local resident, had been found in the area of al-Mahawil late on Monday night.
