こんにちは。イラク平和テレビ局inJapanの川島です。
アメリカでの悲しい出来ことですが、IVAW「反戦イラク帰還兵の会」が追悼の声明を
だしています。

※フォートフード米陸軍基地は５万人の兵士が配備されている米国内最大の基地で
す。ここでイラクへの派兵を予定されていた軍医であるアメリカ兵士が同僚の兵士を
銃撃して多数の死傷者が出るという惨事が起こりました。この事件についてＩＶＡＷ
「反戦イラク帰還兵の会」が訴えています。今こそ全ての兵士を帰国させよう、と。
ＩＶＡＷはアンダー・ザ・フード・カフェを開いてこの基地の目の前の場で戦争に反
対する兵士が集まる場を作ってきました。
そして映画「アメリカ帰還兵ＩＶＡＷイラクに誓う」の主人公アーロン・ヒューズさ
んがこの事件についてのＩＶＡＷ全国事務所の連絡担当者になっています。アメリカ
兵士をここまで追い詰めているアメリカ政府の戦争政策の実態と、イラク占領を辞め

ＩＶＡＷはフォート・フード陸軍基地の全ての仲間に心からの哀悼を表明する。本日
起こった銃撃は戦争の隠された犠牲を悲劇的に思い出させるものである。

であるイスラムに関連した嫌がらせを受けていたので長年除隊の機会を探していた。
ハッサンのいとこでバージニア州の弁護士のナーデル・ハッサンは、ニダル・ハッサ
ンはアフガニスタンやイラクから帰還した兵士の話を聞いてから、戦争に反対するよ
うになった。そのいとこは、ハッサンが中東出身者であることによって陸軍の同僚か
ら嫌がらせを受けていた、と付け加えた。

我々の仲間は昨日のフォート・フード陸軍基地における悲劇的な銃撃事件にうちひし
がれている。我々は犠牲者の家族と友人に哀悼を表明する。
この事件について、我々は確かに腹立たしく感じてはいるが、こうした銃撃事件は
突然の大事件として起こっているのではない。８年間の無意味な戦争はアメリカ軍兵
士とその家族に莫大な打撃を与えた。西南アジアにおける戦争は誰にとっても最良の
利益にはならないと言うことを認める時である。今こそ兵士を帰国させよう！
陸軍は、ＰＴＳＤや他の精神面の健康問題から完全に回復する手助けをするよりも、
兵士を「配備できるようにする」ことにより大きな関心を持っていると繰り返し表明
してきた。このために、たいてい兵士はドラッグやアルコールによる自己治療以外に
ほとんど選択肢がないようになっている。自殺したり殺人を犯すのが明らかな兵士を
陸軍が配備するのは日常茶飯事である。昨日はこの政策が引き起こす可能性のある暴
力的な結末を身の毛をよだつ形で思い起こさせることとなった。我々は陸軍が今こそ
兵士をもっと真剣に守るという義務を果たすように希望する。
我々はこの事件の捜査に参加する陸軍と他の連邦政府機関が透明性を持つことを要
求する。
アンダー・ザ・フード・カフェは軍務についているメンバーに法律的、財政的、医学
的な照会の支援を提供している。そこは戦争と軍隊に関する自分の考えを兵士が自由
に表明できる空間である。また、それはＧＩ［アメリカ兵士］の権利についてのカウ
ンセリングを提供している。反戦イラク帰還兵士の会はイラクの全占領軍の即時撤退
とイラクが被った人的、社会構造的な損害に対する補償と、帰還兵士に対する十分な
給付金を要求している。

Hood community. The shootings that happened today are a tragic
reminder of the hidden costs of war.

Fort Hood shooter, Nidal Malik Hasan, was a victim of racism

Major Nidal Malik Hasan was born in Virginia to parents who
immigrated to the US from Jordan. He joined the army immediately
after high school, and in exchange the army paid for him to go to
college and medical school. According to Hasan's aunt, he had
sought for several years to receive a discharge, due to
harassment relating to his religion, Islam. Hasan's cousin, Nader
Hasan, a lawyer in Virginia, said that Nidal Hasan turned against
the wars after hearing the stories of those who came back from
Afghanistan and Iraq. The cousin added that Hasan had been
harassed by his Army colleagues because of his Middle Eastern
ethnicity.

Joint Statement from Under the Hood Caf? and the Fort Hood
Chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War
Our community is distraught by the tragic shooting at Fort Hood
yesterday. We extend our condolences to the families and friends
of the victims.
As upset as we are about this incident, this shooting does not
come as a shock. Eight years of senseless wars have taken a huge
toll on our troops and their families. It’s time to admit that
the wars in southwest Asia are in no one’s best interests. Bring
the troops home now!
The Army has also repeatedly demonstrated that it is more
interested in making soldiers “deployable” than it is in
helping them fully recover from PTSD and other mental health
issues. This often leaves soldiers with few options other than to
self-medicate with drugs and alcohol. The Army routinely deploys
soldiers who are clearly suicidal and homicidal. Yesterday was a
gruesome reminder of the possible violent consequences of this
policy. We hope the Army now takes its duty to take care of
soldiers more seriously.
We demand transparency from the Army and other federal agencies
involved with this investigation.
Under the Hood Caf? provides military service members support
with referrals to legal, financial, and medical services. It is a
space for troops to freely express their views on the wars and
the military. It also offers GI rights counseling. Iraq Veterans
Against the War calls for the immediate withdrawal of all
occupying forces in Iraq, reparations for the human and
structural damages Iraq has suffered, and full benefits for
returning military.
