●最近のガルディスのタリバン・アル−カイーダ聖戦士のポケット（と推察される場所）を狙った作戦で、少なくとも1人の米兵が死に、アメリカの同盟国側のアフガニスタンの盟友が多数死に、傷ついた。
およそ600人のアフガン人と60人のアメリカの特殊部隊、陸軍第101空挺部隊がこの作戦に参加した。しかしながら、彼らは大変な犠牲を払い（正確な数は知られていない）、撤退しこの作戦を停止した。
米国の爆撃機がそれに取って変わり、執拗にムジャヒディンの居場所を爆撃している。
アッラーが世界中のムジャヒディンを保護なさいますように。
米情報部筋は、外国の何百人ものムジャヒディンがパクティア行政区の山岳地帯で再組織していると推測している。
これらのムジャヒディンは、明らかに（戦いの）準備をしていて、地元のアフガニスタン人に外国の占領軍とのゲリラ戦に加わるよう強く訴えている。
ペンタゴンは、約4,000〜5,000の外国人およびタリバンのムジャヒディンがアフガニスタンに残っていると信じている。そして、そのムジャヒディンは、暫定傀儡政権の安定性に対する直接の脅威になっている。
●カンダハルの米国空軍基地から2Km足らずのところで2人の米連合側のアフガニスタン兵が地雷に接触して死亡し、他に4人のアフガニスタン人が負傷したとカンダハル空港の第101空挺師団のスポークスマン（ローパー少佐）が言った。
金曜日の夜遅く、アフガニスタン軍は3台の車輌で走行中に空軍基地の北東部の地雷に接触した。
ローパー少佐によると、米国のアパッチ・ヘリコプターに護衛されたカナダ・アフガニスタン共同パトロール隊は、穴を掘っているところを目撃された2人の男を追求しにいった。
これは1月10日に、20人のアル−カイーダとタリバンの捕虜をキューバのグアンタナモ湾米国海軍基地へ移送する輸送機を数名のガンマンが銃撃してから数えて、空軍基地付近で起きた事件としては５番目のものである。
直近では2月13日にこの種の銃撃があった。伝えられるところでは、ガンマンたちは基地周辺部の警備についていた米兵を銃撃し、軽傷を負わせた。
米軍はこれらの事件を、地域における彼等の安全に対する『重大な懸念』だと考えている。
●米国のトムキャット−ジェット戦闘機が地中海での訓練飛行中に墜落し、乗員2名のうち1名が死亡した。
F-14は、アフガニスタン戦争の配備に就く途上のジョン・F・ケネディ航空母艦から発進直後に入水した。
艦隊スポークスマン ボブ・ロスは、パイロットと通信将校は脱出し、回収されたが1名が死亡したと述べた。
事故原因は調査中である。
空母ジョン・F・ケネディは空母セオドア・ルーズベルト（反テロ・キャンペーンでアラビア海に配備され、パキスタン、ウズベキスタン、ガルフ諸国その他の米軍基地と共に、内陸の国アフガニスタンの戦争でプラットホームとして使われた）と交替する（ためにアラビア海に向かっている）。
●状況を緩和する米当局の動きにもかかわらず、キューバのキャンプＸ線のハンガーストライキは4日間続いている。
軍当局者は、85人の抑留者（タリバンおよびアル−カイーダ支持者であるという嫌疑をかけられアフガニスタンで逮捕）が土曜日の朝食を拒否したと言った。
金曜日、少なくとも2人の捕虜が脱水状態になり点滴を受けた。
ハンガーストライキは水曜日に始まった。これは明らかに、礼拝中の捕虜の頭からターバンを剥ぎ取った警備員の行為に対する反応である。
しかしながら、これは米当局を更にイライラさせ彼等の圧迫を暴露するためのムジャヒディンの兄弟達の戦術だろう。

GARDEZ (online):
At least one US soldier was killed and a number of their Afghan allies were killed and injured during the latest air and ground operation against supposed pockets of Arab and Taliban Mujahideen in the Arna hills of Gardez.
Approximately 600 Afghanis and 60 American Special Forces and Army 101st Airborne assault troops took part in this operation, however after they suffered heavy casualties, of whom the exact number is unknown, they retreated and halted the operation.
US bombers have taken over and are relentlessly bombing Mujahideen positions.
May Allah protect the Mujahideen all over the world.
US intelligence sources estimate that hundreds of foreign Mujahideen have been regrouping in the mountainous regions of Paktia province.
These Mujahideen are apparently preparing themselves and urging local Afghans to wage a guerrilla war against the foreign occupying forces in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon believes that around 4-5,000 foreign and Taliban Mujahideen remain in Afghanistan and they are a direct threat to the stability of the interim puppet government.
TWO US AFGHAN ALLIED TROOPS KILLED IN LANDMINE EXPLOSION IN KANDAHAR
KANDAHAR (online):
A landmine has killed two US allied Afghan troops less than two kilometres from the US air base at Kandahar. Four other Afghans were injured by the mine, said Major AC Roper, spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division at Kandahar airport.
The Afghan forces were traveling in a three-vehicle convoy late on Friday night when they hit the mine northeast of the air base.
A joint Canadian-Afghan patrol, with cover from a US Apache helicopter, was sent in pursuit of two men seen digging holes in the area of the explosion, according to Major Roper.
This is the fifth incident near the air base since January 10, when gunmen opened fire as a transport plane carrying 20 al-Qaida and Taliban prisoners took off for the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The last such shooting occurred February 13, when gunmen allegedly fired on U.S. forces guarding the base perimeter, where two US soldiers suffered minor injuries.
US troops are regarding all these incidents as a ‘major concern’ to their security in the region.
US PILOT KILLED AS FIGHTER JET CRASHES IN MEDITERRANEAN
ITALY (online):
A US Tomcat fighter jet has crashed during a training exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, killing one of the two crew members.
The F-14 went into the water immediately after launch from the USS John F Kennedy aircraft carrier, which is on its way to deployment in the war in Afghanistan.
Fleet spokesman Cmdr Bob Ross said the pilot and radar officer in the two-seat jet ejected and both were recovered, but one was killed.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The carrier is to relieve the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the anti-terror campaign, in which ships in the Arabian Sea have been used as platforms for the war in landlocked Afghanistan along with other US bases in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, the Gulf states and others.
MUJAHIDEEN PRISONERS IN CUBA MAINTAIN HUNGER STRIKE
CUBA (Monitoring desk):
A hunger strike at Camp X-ray in Cuba is continuing for a fourth day, despite moves by the US authorities to ease conditions.
Military officials said that 85 detainees - alleged Taleban and al-Qaeda supporters arrested in Afghanistan - had refused breakfast on Saturday.
On Friday, at least two of the prisoners were put on intravenous drips to combat dehydration.
The hunger strike - which began on Wednesday was apparently in response to guards stripping a detainee of his turban during prayers although this may well be a tactic from the Mujahideen brothers further frustrate the US authorities and show them up for their oppression.
Some of the Mujahideen have reportedly been fasting since Wednesday, may Allah accept it from them and hasten their release.
