●パキスタン特殊部隊、またしてもパキスタン内で攻撃される

北ワジルスタン部族地域ミーランシャーの町の総合スポーツセンターに滞在しているパキスタン軍が、金曜日と土曜日の夜にロケット攻撃を受けた。
この攻撃による損害は全く報じられていない。
目撃者の報告によると、いつも通りの停電の間に、間に合わせのランチャーに乗せた2台のロケットが公衆衛生事務所の裏手の林で見つかった。
ロケット（その一つは発射されたが、もう一方は不発だった）はこの地域のタリバンとアル・カーイダ支持者に対して活動中のアメリカ特殊部隊を支援するパキスタン軍が滞在している総合スポーツセンターを狙っていた。
ロケットが発射されたあと、パキスタン特殊部隊は直ちにその地域で捜索活動を開始した。
この捜索の間、彼らは別のロケットが森に設置されているのを発見した。そのロケットは午後2時頃に発射される予定だった。
両方のロケットは精巧な発射装置にタイマーと一緒にセットされていた。それはまるでプロがセットしたかのようだった。
部族地域で軍事行動をしているパキスタン特殊部隊は地元部族民からの凄まじい敵意を感じていた。

パキスタン当局は、部族民からの報復を恐れてアフガン国境に近い部族地区におけるタリバンとアル・カーイダの捜索作戦を一時的にストップした。
パキスタン特殊部隊がワジルスタン部族地区の北部と南部のメーマンドやカイバールでのアル・カーイダおよびタリバン分子の捜索活動において米国FBIのエージェントを支援していることは良く知られている。
しかし、その地域のパキスタン軍へのロケット攻撃の洪水の後、これらの活動はしばらくストップされた。
パキスタンは、1400Kmもの長さのパキスタン-アフガニスタン国境封鎖に合衆国からの援助のうち73,000,000USDを費やすだろう。

Pakistani Commandos in Pakistan Attacked Again

Pakistani troops staying in a sports complex in the town of Meeranshah in the North Waziristan tribal region were attacked by rockets on Friday and Saturday night.
No losses were reported due to this attack.
According to eyewitness reports, during the daily electricity blackout, two rockets were found on makeshift launchers 200 yards into a wooded region behind a public health office.
The rockets, one of which fired but the second of which was defused, were aimed at the sports complex in which Pakistan commandos were staying in order to assist American commandos in operations against Taliban and Al-Qaida sympathizers in the region.
The Pakistani commandos immediately began search operations in the area soon after the rockets fired.
During this search, they found another rocket installed in the forest, which was scheduled to be fired at about 2am.
Both rockets were set on sophisticated launching mechanisms with timers as if they were set up by professionals.
The Pakistani commandos operating in the tribal regions have been experiencing great hostility from the local tribesmen but this incident has shown that this hostility is now being transformed into physical action.
On 13 May 2002, during a demonstration in the NWFP province of Bannu, elders and scholars called for the targetting of Pakistani troops if they are found to be assisting the Americans in any way whatsoever.
This represents a turning point in the current conflict, widening the targets of the Mujahideen from the Western troops to the Pakistani troops that are assisting them.
Fierce Tribal Opposition Temporarily Suspends US Operations in Pakistan
LAHORE(Online) :
Lending further weight to the concept that the 'bullet means more than the ballot', Pakistani authorities have temporarily suspended commando operations in search of Al-Qaida and Taliban in the tribal regions of Pakistan, close to the Afghan border in fear of retaliation from the local tribesmen.
It is well known that Pakistani commandos have been assisting American FBI agents in search of Al-Qaida and Taliban elements in Mehmand, Khaibar, North and South Waziristan Tribal Agencies but after a recent spate of rocket attacks against Pakistani troops in the region, these operations have been momentarily stopped.
Pakistan will spend US$73million of US aid to seal the 1400 km long Pak-Afghan border.
It is expected that watch towers will be set up every 50km and with the exception of the Torkham and Chaman border crossings, all other cross- border roads will be sealed.
The US will also supply Pakistan with five special helicopters and specially equipped airplanes used to patrol borders, which are due to arrive in June.
